I’ve found it’s quicker to use pocket screws and glue. And you only need a battery drill and a pocket hole kit instead of a biscuit jointer with a cord so it’s less tools to break out for me. Pocket screws are cheap, I buy them in a 2500 ct box the blue outdoor rated ones. If you’re near salt water you have to use stainless then they aren’t so cheap. I like that instead of having to biscuit two pieces, you just have to drill the pocket holes in one. Either way I wouldn’t call this method wrong and I commend you for doing something to get a good looking end result that will last a long time. I use 2p10 glue but no activator is needed.

What about composite? Do you have to leave the space/gap? Looks way better tight like that

I would not be to concerned about installing composite tight on small boards like 4' wide stairs for example. But yes if the boards are long composite needs room for expansion

Very interesting but skipped over the cutting of biscuit slot and do not tell us of glue brand!
