This is a great value. I built one for myself before George started offering these. Great if you like to build things, but it can be a hassle to source all the parts, make the enclosure and wire it up. Let George do it, he’s retired! The PID module offers programmability to get to a temperature and keep it there. I found it pretty tricky to get the right values for P, I, and D to get up to the target temp and keep it from running over. However, George has a video on this and the PID module has an auto-tune to help set the values. By the way, this box also is great to control a heat source in a fermentation chamber (insulated box big enough to stick your fermenter into). You can set it to control your heat source to a target temperature and walk away.

hi George I've been in the hobby for about a year now you have been fantastic. thank you so much for the help I've Gotten from you. I'd love for you to test out one of these new devices, Auber EZboil DSPR320A instead of a PID. Thanks, Doug

Hi George, Once again, thankyou for offering the pid's, as I did purchase one from you a few months ago. However, I'm going to try and give you a call later this week. No matter how many times I attempt to calibrate, my temperature varies about 8 degrees, never settling down. For the record, I did let my still sit about 110 for 30 mins, and calibrated at 120 for another 30 mins, but to no avail. A theory of mine is the probe is not long enough for my particular reflux still. As I mentioned I can phone you as it may be simpler to have this conversation in person. Cheers, and Happy St Patrick's Day

Absolutely. Looking forward to the call. This is not unusual. We can discuss it when you call. George

Do you have any tips or videos on how to tune a RexC-100? How to use the Auto-Tune. What to set the P,I,D to?
@BarleyandHopsBrewing5 жыл бұрын
Not specifically. There is an autotune function in the parameter setting where "0" equals off and "1" equals on. This is in a sub menu labeled ARU.

Had George build me one couple months ago. Works exactly as he says in his video. Makes controlling your temperature hassle free

Thanks Joe. Comments like these reinforce the practicality of temperature control and how easy it can be. Happy Distilling George

I’m crazy about the controller boxer!! I would like to see a BRUTUS verion.. What are the chances of a George crafted BRUTUS controller ? I would be satisfied with a single burner Distillery controller.

I have several already built. Each one is custom built for the person who needs it all. My latest is a dual controller that can control two 5500 Watt elements with lights and accessory receptacle. Really sweet controller. George

I recently built a PID controller using your video's and wanted to thank you. It was fun. I have a question about doing a spirit run and the actual temp settings you use during the run. Do you start with a setting of 140 or so work your way up? Or other? Thanks again for you passion!
@BarleyandHopsBrewing5 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response. I was on vacation in Vegas for the past 5 days. Exactly, I start around 140 or so and work my way up as the still balances.

Can you use one of these on a still spirits T500 boiler/still? Will the temperature probe fit into the hole on the T500? I’m looking for a good way to help control the temperature in addition to the water flow controller.
@BarleyandHopsBrewing5 жыл бұрын
I am not sure that this will help your issue. The T500 is very sensitive. It uses the flow rate to control the temperature. The needle valve is very sensitive so you can get wide temp swings. Also, if someone flushes the toilet or uses water while the system is running it will effect the temperature until the pressure is balanced again. Best to use the accessory water control device they sell for around $80. It is an enclosed system with a pump that delivers a steady pressure regardless of what your home water pressure system is. This is the best way to steady that temperature. George

Barley and Hops Brewing what if I were running the T500 with the alembic dome? Would the PID be beneficial?

Hi again I have another question is the Mypin TA4-SNR PID controller and the Rex c100 pid controller hooked up the same way
@BarleyandHopsBrewing5 жыл бұрын
Not at all
@tonyrollin4025 жыл бұрын
They both use a ssr I'm built a pid controller with the Mypin TA4-SNR PID controller now I'm building another one and some how I ordered a the rex c100 dont ask me how lol but I have looked at the diagram on the side of both and it looks like if I use the same wiring setup that I used for the mypin it will work I know one my do more than the other but it will operate the blower
@BarleyandHopsBrewing5 жыл бұрын
@@tonyrollin402 They both do the same thing it is just the pin orientation and connections that are different but basically they are wired exactly the same way. The major difference besides reliability is the REX is only in C and not F and the parameter menu is different. George
