Despite experiencing much economic and political adventurism, Pakistan has still been unable to break the ramshackles of the development enigma. The question that keeps surfacing is why has nothing worked so far. Today, the basic ingredients of development are known i.e., well-defined property rights,
Let us have an open conversation on what is stopping Pakistan from achieving economic growth and development.
Why has Pakistan not been able to develop?
Why is Pakistan still trapped in the vicious boom-bust cycles, with the
boom becoming rarer with time?
effective judicial system, rule of law, efficient institutional frameworks, and
market-based economy, to name a few. If all the ingredients are known, then
what's missing?
Everyone in #Pakistan is worried about the economy. Whether it’s a social gathering, a friends’ meet up or a TV talk show, conversation drifts towards the economy. We all know that the economic crisis in Pakistan is a tale as old as its emergence in the league of nations. The country that was once considered to become the next #AsianTiger is now struggling to keep its head above water.

Pakistan problem is not economic but political. If Pakistan can’t live and behave like normal country nothing would happen.

Respected Sir, As per my perspective Pakistan basic problem is Governance. Charter of Economics will proof to be a Paper piece. Every government tried for very short term policies. We need a very clear objectives at least for next 25 years. Governments were unable to understand the real issues, that's why unable to solve the problems.

In case of IPPs there was no design flaw as Dr. Masood states. The kickbacks in every project were duly factored in, which were the very purpose of such projects.

In country like this a poor shopkeeper can't run his shop peacefully but a man (rather many more land-grabbers like him under official patronage) can grab lands thousands of acres without payment. And when SC fixes the liability, he gets the national money coming from NCA, UK transferred in his liability account with SC and for the rest he says go to hell. This kind of things don't happen even in banana republics. Various African countries have reformed themselves. But the nexus of so-called rulers (landlords and industrialists) and mafia in business have devastated this country.

Dear sirs, we read the Quran and pray 5 times daily to Allah. We follow Islam. Pak means pure. Why does the almighty not listen to us? Is praying to Allah not the solution?

The problem is the huge capacity of a chronic borrower to lie. The state of Pakistan in fact doesn’t exist. How policies could be framed if the interests of the state have never been considered? For a functioning state with an army, a dynamic economic sector is needed. How to expect such a sector, if industries are shutting down. The export sector is vanished. Who gave the chronic borrower the right to talk of global economy? Importing luxury items such as German cars and Cuban cigars while barely exporting cotton towels may entertain a billionaire ex-army chief. But how a chronic borrower could learn how to export industrial goods? What is needed is a recognition that state of Pakistan died with a slogan: “Jihad Fe Sabillilah.”
