Snake ears are actually small holes on the sides of the head, that would be the hood of the cobra. Snakes with hoods usually use them in some kind of defensive display to warn other animals off.

Snakes do not have ears or ear holes but you're right that a cobra's flattened neck is called a hood.

Fun fact about cobra hoods and as far as I know, all snakes: a) cobra hoods are flared by the snake _spreading its ribs out_ , and this is possible because b) _snakes can independently move their ribs_ . Like, all of them. A lot. Snakes wiggle their whole body, but they also micro undulate...by moving their ribs like little internal leggies, millipede style. They also move the ribs to squeeze food down their digestive tract. And they can flatten the ribs out to make themselves look bigger (hognose snakes in the USA are drama llamas and like to play dead and sometimes they flatten themselves out so much they look like they got ran over by a truck)...and to make it easier to swim, and freaking FLY (well, glide in a somewhat controlled manner from the tops of trees in the case of paradise tree snake).

They do have ear bones to detect vibrations, but they are not connected to eardrums and do not have an opening to funnel in air vibrations. Iirc snake ear bones are connected to their skeleton, so they can detect vibrations from bigger animals walking towards them, but they cannot hear the way mammals can.

On the cobra, the “ears” are called the hood of the cobra, primarily used for intimidation and just telling animals don't mess with me.

Pearl has also flown out to Tango and Impulse's wither farm to troll them, but the spawn village definitely makes it easier for the hermits to interact spontaneously as it takes like 1 rocket to visit anyone instead of a 5min flight.

Suggestion for adding some texture to the snake: you could use some deepslate redstone ore so that it's still mostly dark but it has bits of red that look like markings.

That is quality snek. Also, cobras have “hoods”. I think your discontent is that snakes don’t have snouts really, but bulbous triangular heads. That is where you are getting dragon, rather than snake.

I think if you shorten the top part of the snout it will help it look less Draconic. Additionally, the top and bottom parts don't quite match up if you imagine its mouth closed. Otherwise, it's looking great and I can't wait to see it decorated with ore bits!

I have read that the Cobra has a mark on each side of it's hood. The marks are supposed to be the finger prints of Budda when he blessed the snake after it used it's hood to protect Budda from the sun and rain as he slept.

The cobra hood definitely differentiates the snake enough to me so it doesn’t seem too dragon like but adding some body/tail down the road can help with that too :3 super fun build

Cobra usually have dark circles on the inside of their hoods too that make predators think they're eyes and scares them off. He's a very cool idea and can't wait to see him finished.

As a snakeaphobic, the slithering part is the worst. So although I wouldn’t choose to look at a snake head for long, I think I will be able to get used to your build over time. But, if you do all those extra bits you mentioned at the end to make it more snake like… who can say… I do like the idea of your base entrance being a snake mouth with a waterfall flowing down from it. The dripstone fangs look really cool. I loved that you just randomly decided to visit Beef! I enjoy the two of you hanging out together. And I’m glad that his HTCG is highly anticipated by so many hermits! Your reactions to Pearl’s shears was wonderful. Just as planned lol I cannot believe she’s gotten two whole sales so far. Shears for 8 diamonds! She deserves it though, for following through with such a silly shop born from her twitch chat.

My dad is scared of snakes (and our area doesn't have dangerous ones) ehich has resulted in various "pranks" over the years. His coworkers have put those plastic ones in his mailbox at work, and i once got him good by pointing at the black water hose (with a yellow stripe) at our feet and saying "oh look a snake" and simce we just walked out of a building and i pointed back the way we came he jumped so high. (I know its mean but i couldn't help myself) If i was bdubs i wouldn't tell people I don't like snakes because i would 100% prank him by having one climb his tower. (I would help with the teardown) Granted i would never introduce a real snake to a snake-aphobe, that crosses the line. (The line is also set by how good of friends you are/how bad the fear is)

I agree that the color scheme seems a bit off. But, the blocks you used have a good texture for scales. I’m not sure there are many other blocks that would work as well. Also, I believe the villager breeder is Tango’s. You could ask him to move it, since he’s not doing anything with it. Great video. 🤠👍💕

An interesting block that might work really well with the cobra build might be blocks of raw gold could use it to make some designs in the hood or in the like diamond pattern you mentioned.doc might even be able to help supply you with some as his trench machine carves out a space, and since he already has a gold farm it’s unlikely he needs raw gold.

I think one of the things that is making it read more dragon-like is the elongated snout. Snakes -- particularly vipers and elapids -- don't have snouts; they have short, snubby faces shaped more like spades.

Cleo, if you're still looking for names for the pig, might I suggest Phaia? In Greek mythology, Phaia was an old crone who owned the Krommyonian Sow, a gigantic boar which terrorized the countryside around the town of Krommyon. While on his way to Athens, Theseus encountered and killed both the boar and Phaia.

For pig names, you've got the obvious alliterative ones like Percy, Petey, Poppy, or Pru. Or you could subvert expectations with Dave, Djimon, Piotr (both alliterative and non anglicised). Or go meat joke with Jamón, or Jambon.

For the cobra, the lower jaw needs to come forward more. As it is, it looks like it has a big underbite, but remember that snakes can open their jaws almost 180 degrees, so feel free to extend it forward, down, or any combo of those. The idea should be that, when it swivels forward, it meets the front of the upper jaw. Other than that, I love the design! Maybe make the eyes something that glows, maybe behind red stained glass if you still want the red look?

i noticed you have string under your glowberry vines, they added a new feature in 1.18 so if you right click the bottom of glowberry vines with shears then it stops growing. It also works on things like kelp, weeping vines, etc. Perfect test run for shear audacity!

Lots of kobras have stripes and/or fake eye markings on their hoods. That could help break up all the gray of the basalt. The lower mount is rather short which might be adding to the dragon look.

Just my personal observation in the few of many, many episodes of Hermitcraft episodes from all the Hermits I watch (which is all currently) with so many seasons and episodes I still want to watch. I may be in the minority but I'd rather see longer seasons with Hermits taking their time with occasional breaks then regular or short somewhat rushed seasons with longer breaks between. A more relaxed slower paced with a good amount of collaborations with less burnout I "think" is both more enjoyable and healthier for you Hermits and us the viewers IMO. Sorry for the length of this comment.
