Not really, swamp based slime-farms were a thing even before the mob spawn changes: check out ianxofour for a looting 3 early-game slime farm (mob sorting with cats/dogs/snow layers no replaced by selective spawning with mushrooms). The whole channel is a goldmine for simple, yet effective farms.

To be fair even mumbo acknowledged it made less slime than general mob drops like gunpowder and rotten flesh. Although Mumbo definitely brought the concept of swamp based slime farms back into general thought because they normally get written off as significantly inferior to just digging out a slime chunk. But with new mechanics they became a lot more viable even if mumbo didn't complete the design himself he certainly started it.

i've just started recently watching docm77. and in the couple dozen episodes i've seen i almost always hear, "designed by ilmango" or somebody else. it's starting to make me wonder, what things that doc uses is actually his own design? i'm sure he has invented his own thing or improved upon someone else's thing. the only thing that seems to be original is that ghast powered flying machine that he recently made with Methodzz.

@@raymondstheawesome Doc has close friendships with a lot of folks in scicraft and the rest of the tech community, so there’s a decent amount of collaboration there. The fact that he knows about updates to farms before they come out means that he likely provided some feedback or input to those farms. New mechanics and contraptions take a ton of time to do, and he tends to spend that time on Hermitcraft instead of in a creative world. Off the top of my head, one thing that I understand is primarily from Doc’s brain include the poppy/shadow tech modules (like the sand transporter, or the ender porter system from last season). Personally, I see Doc in his Hermitcraft videos first as a presenter and teacher of the cool, out-there things that the technical Minecraft community come up with, then as a leader/rallying point for the technical community, and then as a member of the technical community. As Doc says, GOAT is for Grind, Optimize, Automate, Together. None of the game-breaking stuff that people come up with happens in a vacuum, and Doc has never tried to present himself as a Nikola Tesla who can invent 7 new Minecraft farms in 3 days. He’s just someone who has harnessed a significant understanding of the game mechanics, a community of peers and viewers who are willing to dive into those mechanics who he can lean on when he goes beyond what he knows, a drive to do things bigger than they probably should be, and the wisdom to know what farms exist and realize which are best for him to build on. So basically: I can’t think of many instances where he invents entire new farms of his own for use in Hermitcraft, but I’m not sure it matters too much. The fact that he can keep up with scicrafters and explain the mechanics clearly to us is enough for me to accept that he is very good at what he does, even if he doesn’t have his name on any widespread farms.

When I saw the mushrooms I immediately caught on remembering how brown mushrooms emit a very low light level which actually works for slime farms in swamps but I never realized that slimes could spawn on the mushrooms.

@@MoriShep I actually found that out in my old days of playing early pocket edition, I was trying to farm brown mushrooms in a cave home that I dug out in a cliff and saw that there was a very faint glow that the mushrooms emitted since I was placing them in a dark area (which is needed).

However, the copper aging field out in the open is the most efficient method of enabling trolling by other Hermits. Harmless, but annoying where it matters most. So while Doc's German efficiency is insulted by loss of copper progress, he can take solace in how efficient he made it for certain people to low-effort troll him instead of them having to go through high-effort distractions.

Well more accurately its very easy to see the back of Grian's "rock pile" and Doc's massive "chunk error" at the same time, which is nothing for the distances normally separating the hermits when they aren't intentionally basing together the way Grian and Mumbo, or Impulse, Pearl, and Gem are.

That type of moss farm is incrediblely fast. The only downside is that it will probably break from you accidentally unloading it or disconnecting from the server about 10-15 times throughout the season. I definitely know this by coincidence, it certainly hasn't happened to me.

Brown 'shrooms have always given off light level 1. Slimes have always spawned in swamps below light level 7. The only 'New' thing is the change in other mobs needing light level 0 to spawn and that hit vanilla much earlier last year. (1.16 or 1.17). This farm has been a concept just waiting for someone to actualize it for quite a while, Mumbo flashed onto it but the hivemind grabbed it and made it work!
