I used to live over in Mississippi and fished the gulf often. We used live shrimp and fished 4am to sun up and caught white and speckeled trout on a two jig set up one yellow on top and one white on bottom, tipped with the shrimp. The yellow caught the trout and the white caught the catfish. The bite was over always at sun up.

I chuckle when I hear people call them 'catfish' down here in the south while fishing saltwater!...old timers like myself grew up knowing them as 'hard heads'...and, that one you caught with the tall top dorsal fin was a 'gaff top'. I myself only relate 'catfish' to fresh water fishing, but, that's just 'me' ! Have a great day!

Im from Louisiana and i caught my first shark here. I came here for vacation and walked from my hotel which you can see from the background with my friend. We came around 11:00pm and stayed till around 1:30am. The best part was we did this while a tropical storm was taking place. A lightning bolt hit where that coke machine is sitting. I like to use 1 oz weights when pier fishing with 1/0 circle hooks. catches everything !!! I even caught 25lb amberjack. Spinning reel is way to go for sure for ease

@@RealisticFishing #40 braided fishing line and octopus hooks :) Braided will handle a heck of a lot more, also good for grouper. Just use a thick mono leader to allow for stretching. The braided doesn't cast as well to me as mono but your fishing from a pier, it also helps with snags etc.

Super excited. Also gonna do loads of pier fishing and I wanna catch some whiting (they're actually delicious) and I either want to catch my first black drum or my first sheep's head. I fished off the one that was there in 1997 ( storm tore it up a few years later) we caught sheepsheads and a Spanish mackerel. Did watch a guy catch a jack that went around a pier and they had to pull his line up, cut it retie and the he reeled it in.

I honestly never really knew you did saltwater fishing as well, I grew up in Mississippi and I was honestly surprised you knew the names of these fish and the gar as well. I just figured you where on vacation lol. I would like to recommend Pinfish as cut bait, Croaker seems to be most folks go to but Pinfish seem to be a gem for me, when given a chance try it you may like it as well.

The hard head catfish has venomous spines. If it stabs you, it will swell up and be very painful. The gafftopsail is extremely slimy, it will get everywhere and stick to everything.

I have not seen anyone else use Shimano reels with the Quikfire trigger...I love em grew up using em...they have really advanced from the IX models....I use their Spirex models now...awesome reels...6.2:1 gear ratio!!

Fishing there today and a fish pulled a big nice saltwater fishing rig right over the pier railing into the water. Some of us tried to hook it but whatever was hooked to it headed out into the gulf with the whole thing. That had to be a sinking feeling.

Their fins have very sharp spins that will cut the crap out of you! And it stings way worse that it looks. I think that's the venom part people talk about.

rinse it off at the end of the day in the shower in your condo/hotel. When you get back home (if you don't know how yourself) have the reel serviced, unless it is a saltwater specific baitcaster. Those will have different bearings.

I just went to Galveston pier. I got an advice from the local there. If you use shrimp bait and get stuck right on to the pier pole you likely catch a sheep head. Sheep head like to eat of the pier poles. I caught two In 4 hour. Cool vid.

I saw them down there, but I couldn't get a bite. Around this pier, the bait to use is crabs if you want sheep heads.

Realistic Fishing yeah, i seen people out the catching the Crocker and taking to the end of the jetty. Crocker on a 2/0 circle hook no weight through the lips swimming freely. When it take off don’t reel in yet it just the Crocker getting spook. they where catching red like crazy. when went I saw five guys hauled up A 12 foot shark on to the pier. It was crazy a lot of blood.. Yet it was fun to watch. I wanna catch mullet next time. They where schooling and no one could catch one. Next time I bringing bread..

@@RealisticFishing im in illinois, there is no fishing here anymore, if you dont know or have a secret little spot your done. i would rather drive 14 hrs to pensicola, fish for a day, eat great sea food and drive straight home than try to fish here anymore

Because I only caught 2 small ones. I am 6'4" 240 lbs... thats like eating 2 pringles. 😅

I didn't know you also did Pier fishing🎣👍 I love pier fishing🎣 pier realistic fishing🎣 👍💯keeping it realistic 💯% I remember when I was little my friend made me a fishing pole with a cocoa cola can and he used a spark plug as a fishing🎣 weight and a safety pin has a hook and monofilament fishing line
