One of my favorite pieces of jewelry is a black niobium curved bar with blue gems. Most of my jewelry is either niobium or titanium. Most of it was bought in the 90s and early 2000s. I haven't bought a new piece of jewelry for ages. (Jan Griffiths).

The cost of niobium went up in the early 00s and everything change over to Titanium. Sadly, black and charcoal niobium increasingly became rare and was replaced with cheap plastic garbage. The best niobium and favorite came from Good Art. Sadly they stop making body jewelry. I don't think anyone has mastered the level of anodizing they had with some of the most unusual color combinations and high polish. The fact that you are still wearing jewelry that old it's just shows that if you buy quality jewelry it can last forever.

I'm thinking about doing a a few that covers the pros and cons of each material. Not sure if it will be in this series or Pros and Cons by a piercer. Till then: Implant Grade Surgical Stainless Steel - ASTM f138 Implant Grade Titanium - ASTM-f136 14kt to 18kt solid Gold Non-alloys and other materials Niobium - ASTM-B392 Acrylic - acrylic styrene copolymer also known as Dential Acrylic Resin Glass Bio-Plastic Natural Materials - hardwoods, stones, etc.. I did a video on sterilization kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3S5cpdrorhqmM0

For at home? I have been considering it and have been planning a video for at home tool box. The only concern I have is I don't want to encourage anyone to try piercing themself at home. My fear is that someone will seriously hurt themself. I for one will sterilize jewelry and some tools for free and most piercer will for free or for a small fee.

I know that I do cover this on my site but it is surprising that there isn't a video and I will add it to the schedule I've been working out. One of the issues is there is a couple of different methods used. I'm old school and still use a steam based autoclave. I know that JC Potts of Pangea Piercing dose have some footage of setting up his piercings using a cartridge style chemical autoclave on his channel pangeapiercing. May I ask are you are starting a piercing studio?

@@BodyPiercingTattooing i would like to that would be my dream but i dont have access for training and i'm not sure of legal certifications in my country to practice this profession they dont have a clear law for opening piercing shops since we have none although piercings are so popular here they pierce themselves usually

I kind of went through the same thing on a state level. There was some blowback from the medical establishment and it was a huge struggle to find training. However, I was lucky to get involved with a local tattoo artist and there was already tattoo regulations and established businesses. I'm unsure where you are located and what cultural issues there may be. My approach with dealing with authorities was, there are already people doing piercing and my goal was providing access to safe and clean methods. As far as training, there really is no replacement for an apprenticeship. Nothing replaces one on one long term train with an experienced piercer. You may have to go abroad to do that and I'm not sure if you could get a student visa for it. That said I have plans to make a video or blog on suggestions for those thinking about becoming a piercer. Until then a couple of suggestions is reading and researching anything you can find on anatomy, getting first aid and cross-contamination training and reading the Piercing Bible. Having that base knowledge will give you a good foundation and insight into what piercing professionally will involve.

Hey! I love your videos. I've been thinking about getting a septum piercing and I've been looking on websites to gauge the prices but I also want to make sure I'm safe. I've been watching a lot of your videos on good versus bad jewelry. In most of the websites I've been on there are brass pieces. I was wondering what your opinion was on them since you haven't talked about them yet.
@BodyPiercingTattooing

Brass is not a good option. Especially in a fresh piercing. When piercing I suggest sticking with Implant Grade and biocompatible material like Surgical Stainless Steel, niobium, Titanium, 14kt or 18kt solid Gold and glass.

Hey Daevo, it's me again. Which piercing metal is the most affordable. Right now, I'm wearing piercing studs which are gold and my piercings are doing fine. So, if I ultimately decide to get another ear piercing, should I just request a gold earring? See, all of my previous earlobe piercings were done with piercing guns. Now I want to experience a needle piercing so that I can compare both piercing methods for myself. THANKS for your educational piercing videos, keep 'em coming, dude!

Hey DaVo! For people like me who are on a budget, which piercing metal is the most affordable? I don't seem to have any metal allergies. Which of the piercing metals are the LESS EXPENSIVE?
@BodyPiercingTattooing

High-grade Implant Surgical Stainless Steel is usually the least expensive with Niobium and Titanium coming in about $5 or more. What usually increases the cost of the jewelry is the quality of the metal and how it is manufactured. Paying a few bucks more for a high-end piece from a studio instead of the mass produced stuff coming out of the third world means that the jewelry will longer and keep its high polished finish for many years. Often you might save a couple of bucks today but you will end up replacing the jewelry within a shorter period of time. For example, Internally threaded barbells may cost as much as twice as much but since it takes a great number of turns for the end to loosen, you won't be replacing the jewelry due to lost ends as often.
