We're delighted to be joined by the original Ultimate Beast in Springbok legend Pierre Spies, to hear his incredible story which has taken him from a close shave with death in 2006 and missing out on the world cup in 2007 to fighting back and becoming a SA legend and being the main clog in destroying the Lions in 2009. We also hear how his struggles on and off the field, have led him to nowadays being a Minister in the Christian church back in SA. Most importantly he reveals his secrets on how became such a freak athlete - at 6ft 4", 111 kg, and runs 100m in just 10.7 seconds. He is truly a once-in-a-lifetime athlete! Plus the lads give us their take on all the big rugby headlines including - Why did Cowan Dickie miss his medical at Montpellier? Had he been arrested? and Does rugby need more head coaches having a punch-up like we saw in the MLR?

My favourite rugby talk show. Love how genuine these guys are, not shying away from deeper questions around religion and other times asking into failures of players. All done in good spirit and genuine interest. Good job fellows!

It's nice to see that Pierre Spies is not only a great sporting talent, but such an articulate, well rounded person. Also, as a French, I thought it was a bloody disgrace how he and five other players were let go of by the Montpellier management team.

Several things to note: 1. George is a smallish town about 400kms away from Cape Town along the N2. Lovely place and quite quiet although it also boasts a small airport which is cool. And surrounded by mountains and the sea. Beautiful area. 2. According to stats, Leinster lost to the Bulls 62-7. Stats not going to record what level of team experience was there, nor that they had very few long standing players plus the coaches decided to ditch them. And that is something the club will be branded with in their stats books. 3. Bulls have played better these past few games and Jake White is a good coach. Must be funny for Pierre to look at the Bulls and still see Jake there coaching away. Almost 20 years on. How funny.

Cape Town is the only city in the top 30 most dangerous cities globally. Pretoria is more safe than most US cities and a very chilled place. The area around Loftus is really nice! Not sure what you are talking about!

If Pierre says so then it's true Phil and if Google says so then it's true squared - I'd get out of there if I were you------According to the platform's ranking, South Africa sits in 187th place out of 192 countries - making it the 6th most dangerous country in the world. South Africa recorded a murder rate of 34.4 homicides per 100,000, which included 16.95 deaths by stabbing and 4.87 by gunshot per 100,000 people.3 Feb 2023

I grew up in Pretoria and now live in Kansas City, USA which is one of the most dangerous cities in the US. You feel 1000 times more safe here than in any South African city/town. Can’t compare the two. There’s still law and order here and crime is contained in small sections of downtown.
@LionOnSea

Look obviously stats on a metro level can be a little misleading. Joburg and Pretoria are very large cities with very safe areas and very unsafe areas. I've lived in Gauteng and Cape Town and in both you just need to avoid the obvious hotspots and use common sense. But on average I can't say SA is unsafe "everywhere".

Absolultely... I respect Spies our daughters are at the same school but his got this one VERY wrong. I'm at UP for almost 16 years and walk to and fro between Loftus and campus and it must be the safest/ cleanest place in Hatfield and Brooklyn if not SA. Being from Cape Town he aint seen nothin LOL
@phil2136

@@joswan4719 totally agree with you. Can’t compare but just saying that this narrative that Pretoria and specifically Loftus area is as bad or worse than downtown Mexico or Venezuela is nonsense.
