Thanks for this video. I just purchased a nib block and a burnisher to practice fixing dead nibs. Also I love that huge dresser/drawer full of pen parts!

Wrinkled nib or not, it's a fantastic writer. It reminds me of my Waterman's 55 with a similarly wrinkled oblique italic flex nib - it writes beautifully. I wouldn't want anyone to fix it, just like Brian Eno's AKS Synthi. It had a broken circuit, but it made the most extraordinary sound, and whenever he sent it out for repair he left a note where the broken circuit was that said, "don't touch".

What superb line variations--I wish writing styles and manual penmanship were still taught in schools. When I started school in the early 1960s, we all had filled inkwells built into our desks. Thank you for demonstrating the repair so well.

That's a great outcome for what I thought was a dead nib

As I always say, the nib is the heart of the pen, I like to look over pens for detail. Not so much how fancy they my look but see what the pen has been through. The nib on your pen writes very nice just like it is.

Pier an excellent video on damaged pen repair. When will you come to Minneapolis, your hometown, and give us a talk? You once, 20+ years ago, came to our pen club meeting and brought some of your large pen-related drawings for showtell. Cheers

Maybe it wasn't bent by mistake, maybe it was bent on purpose to write with that big line variation. It looks like it's bented like pilot falcon.

That Eagle might have a bent wing, but it can still soar. I just finished restoring a Gold Bond Stonite pen, bought at a local antique store. I adjusted the "Guaranteed for Life" 14K nib today with my fingers, gentle pressure and a prayer. There's usually a moment of panic when the tines cross or seem horribly out of whack, but nothing beats the feeling of success when they line up perfectly.

I'd call it a save. I love the way it looks and the way it works. I wish it was for sale.....WOW, that's a pen parts heaven you've got there in that drawer! Seems like you'd have something to match it, but that cap will definitely work. Great job! 👍🖋

Ah I learnt the hard way about restoring nibs and pens in general. Tryed bending back a lovely parker duofold nib that was bent (but still worked) and in the process snapping off the tines. Also destroyed the nipple of that pen :(

By the way do you have a waterman ideal 52 black cap? From what I can see you have a lot of parts! I'm in bad need for a new cap as mine is cracked, do you have an email? Thanks. Conrad.

Based on the nib size most likely a Waterman 52, BHR pens were mostly between 1900s and 1930s.

Thank you sir for this and other helpful videos I've recently watched on your channel. I recently inherited a similar vintage pen which I'm pretty sure is the longer version of the Parker #6 eyedropper. The gold nib performs similarly to the one you demonstrate here. It's also missing the cap which I believe is a triangle shape and a push on. I'd be very interested in contacting you directly by email or phone to see if you might have one. The section is also chipped but it doesn't seem to affect the writing nor does it cause any leaking. Still I'd love to find a replacement. Another question: Are the gold bands on the body of the Parker eyedropper circa approximately 1905 also solid 14k gold? Thanks in advance for your kind help. Regards, Chris

@@PiersStudio Thank you for replying , they are made of steel presumably , i did read that some burnishers , possible in years past, where made from Agate . Anyway you made it look easy when it's extremely difficult , wonderful to watch . I love repairing pens but i don't get much chance mainly due to the cost of acquiring the pen in the first place . I am in no way even remotely at your level but i have changed sacks , fixed cracks, cleaned out really old crusty pens , fixed holes and tuned nibs . I would love to learn to grind nibs and repair pens for a living but that's not gonna happen.

Joe Han hard to say without looking at it. If everything looks correct...no bends on it from damage, try it in a different pen. Sometimes swapping a nib and a feed will do the trick. Also setting it further in or changing the relationship of the nib and feed might also fix the problem.

if u dont care how ugly it looks as long as it works then u should have left it like it was at first. even though it was bent it wrote nicely.
