From your video, I learnt today how to take out the feed from the section of my recently purchased Shaffer targa 1003 pen. Flow problem. I will try thorough cleaning. Thank you.

Thank you for this video!!! Acquired a Targa Slim recently and sadly realized it’s leaking in the inlay area after a day of having it inked. Zero issues with my 440 or Targa 1000 so was puzzled when this happened but your video was of great help!

Just wanted to pitch in with a little update for anyone that needs to do this on a Sheaffer that does not allow for the feed to be removed from the assembly. DISCLAIMER: If you do not have steady hands, patience, skill and a burning passion for this kind of stuff, DO NOT ATTEMPT MY METHOD I used this method on my Sheaffer Intrigue in the following manner: I split a toothpick in half so I got a long sharp and very thin splinter. (weird, I know but it helps prevent scratching of shiny surfaces) I dipped it in the magic Tolley Juice so the fibers in the wood get nice and sealed. Then I put the nib section on a sticky pad ball just like in the video. I made sure the nib was pointing up at a 45 degree angle to prevent any accidental spilling/dripping down of Tolley Juice into the feed, breather hole, or tines. I aplied ONE small Tolley Juice bead in the center diamond on the edge where my nib was leaking. Then I used the toothpick splinter with the previously cured tip to VERY CAREFULLY spread the Tolley Juice bead around on the edges of the inlay making sure it doesn't drip. I made sure NO Tolley Juice made any kind of contact with the feed. I completely avoided going anywhere near the inside assembly. I applied Tolley Juice ONLY on the exterior surface part, all the way "up" (because the nib is pointing to the ceiling) to the crimp area but NOT inside the nib section. I did this once, let it cure for 36 hours. After 36 hours I went back and did another application and let it cure for another 36 hours. I know it cures after 24H but I took the extra time and extra patience because this particular fountain pen gave me butterflies in my stomach when I first found out about its existence and I did not want to make mistakes by rushing. I don't want to jinx it, but I just inked the pen and it writes normally and so far there does not seem to be any more leaking of any kind. I will go one step further and say I think this procedure corrected a minor ink flow issue where it used to not write consistently at the beginning of every word. I suspect that was due to the ink creeping up towards the nib leak area instead of flowing down into the tines. HUGE THANKS to Grandmia Pens for this video! It helped immensely!

A very thorough tutorial there Stef, also a really good tip on the use of Blutack to hold a slippery component, I always take the sharp tip off the hyperdermic as it is so easy to prick yourself on it, it must be much more difficult for you working through the camera viewfinder, many thanks for posting this ! Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed it. Yes the tip removal is a good idea, however i like to work with the angle to the tip when applying the sealant. Cheers.

Thank you Stef. I just recently had to seal the nib on a Legacy, but unfortunately it seems that Sheaffer glued the feed into these Legacy models... it was a pain to seal!

Hi. Can you please show video demonstration of how to disassemble and service a Sheaffer Targa?
@penkino13 жыл бұрын
I do not have any Targa pens available, however the Targa pens should not need to be dissasembied to service them. A good clean with water should be enough. Good luck.

I have 3 Sheaffer Pens that I don't use because I like calligraphy. There is one with a broad nib. I want to grind the nib on Emery Stone so that it could become flat instead of round. Will I succeed? I don't mind if the nib gets spoilt because, as it is, I am not using it. Please advise. Thank you.

If you feel confident then why not, however be aware you could ruin the nib if it goes wrong. I would recomend you send it to a nibmeister. Good luck.

Is it normal for these types of nibs to have a tiny little leak just above the breather hole inside the black diamond shape?When I say leak, I mean, it's not visible, but if I put my finger on the black diamond right on the area where the nib is marked with text but not touching the breather hole, I get a little ink stain in the shape of a smile. Since I don't naturally touch that area when I write it's not really a problem and there don't seem to be other leaks, but since this is my first inlaid nib I don't know what to expect.
@penkino1 Жыл бұрын
Its not really normal but occaisionally one will leak and will need to be sealed. Good luck

@@penkino1 Thanks for the reply. My pen is a Sheaffer Intrigue and Idon't think the feed can be removed on this model. Will this fix work for me? I'm worried the sealant will clog up the feed when it dries.

Great videos, thank you. No matter what ink tried in a Sheaffer "500" lever fill with a Triumph nib, creeps out a bit of ink. That "Capt. Tolley's" intrigues me to seal nib to section. However, after watching you do another video servicing a vac-fill Sheaffer with a Triumph nib, see that it needs to be able to come out of section. Sealing it may be ruin the pen to be future serviced, or worse allow proper ink flow.for pen to work at all. Any experience correcting a leaky Triumph nib? Once again, thank you for helping us out with your videos.

@@penkino1 Thank you. I am sending you a few dollars. Your knowledge and skills should be rewarded. I will put the Triumph nib Sheaffer aside for when feeling ambitious to tackle a advanced repair. (A 60ml. bottle of Capt Tolleys in Canada about $30.00 or 17 pounds).
