...Ramaphosa is more concerned about Agenda 2030, S.Africa is history to him

This is an accurate description of Pietermaritzburg as someone who is born and raised here this is absolutely true it’s so bad that people prefer being in areas outside Pietermaritzburg like Hilton

Thank you for documenting the decay. I lived in Pmb until 2007. So sad to see. Very insightful analysis.

So different to how PMB used to look in the 80s when I lived there. Beautiful clean city back then. Now it looks terrible sadly. This is the result of years of corruption and useless governments.

My personal assessment is that the men and women at the lower level, the cleaners, are doing their best to keep the city clean. The problem is the maintenance of the infrastructure, especially the walkways, parks, road markings and maybe the government buildings. The city must collaborate with private sector and encourage them to keep their properties in good shape. I am saying this because most of the buildings are privately owned. The community must play their role by not littering. There is a need for strong political leadership and good governance, this city can be restored. Watching from Pretoria.

Most workers are employed under EPWP. Sometimes, they don't get laid for 6 months. It becomes hard for them to do their jobs properly. No one wants to perform well at a job where they might end up not getting paid that month.

Thanks for sharing, I think this kind of decay is happening to all cities and towns in this country, I hate to say this, if you can visit any institution such as schools that was previously managed by abamhlophe 30 years ago, today yihlazo lodwa, not to say abelungu abagangi, bayaganga kodwa they make sure ukuthi bayasebenza, laba bakithi badla kuphela, yingakho kunje

I lived here as an aboy til I was 24, this place looks like a wreck from the Victorian, not Boer, heritage. Cry, the Beloved Country

That is very sad to see. I think the Mayor should be fired as that is his responsibility.
