Hi Piet. Greetings from a very cold Montreal. it was (-13c) yesterday and (-11c) today. I should not complain about it being very cold here, ever again after (-43 F wind chill down there) We narrowly escaped a blizzard Monday night. it only snowed 5 to 10cm instead. Ya know what they say right ?? A Day without POOP is like a Day without SUNSHINE !! Hopefully that pile will be good to scatter on the fields. Moo Cow Inner Dialogue ..."OOOH this new straw is MOOVULOUS !!!" Looks like the ladies are enjoying themselves. Stay Warm out there !!!

Gee Piet I wish you had a compost turner it would turn that old straw into black magic in three weeks ( another job I know). Who are the red heifers by ? Cheers 🇦🇺

I'd have to go look at them, but I think the sire would be rebel red.

Did you ever think of trying an old spreader and using it to spread out the back end four year straw it actually spreads really nice
@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer904722 сағат бұрын
We've never tried that. We used to have a bale shredder, but we went away from that because it was so dusty.

Around 1000 heifers and 100 dry cows. It's definitely nicer inside than outside!

Watching that Bobcat loader spreading straw and riding through the straw makes me wonder about fire danger. Do you preform fire drills with your staff? Also, does your farm have a disaster recovery plan, i.e. where to milk if the parlor gets (major) disabled?
@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer90473 күн бұрын
The dust is probably of bigger concern, as it can get inside the machine more easily. There are fire extinguishers throughout the farm and in some of the equipment. Yes, we have a disaster plan in place for type of scenario.

Don't you guys have a rear unload spreader ever try puttin bales in it and see if it spread it

We've never tried that. We used to have a bale shredder, but we went away from that because of how dusty it was.

@alfredomarotta6604 maybe he should hire locals instead of shipping in foreign people who then send the money back home, which his community loses out on the economic boost... Just a thought

I'm not expecting it to have an impact. Time will tell what the impact is on the labor pool in the country.
