I think most level-headed SA fans will agree the 2011/2015 ABs team was better.... but if we win the next WC then there's no debate!
@subhuman1194 ай бұрын
A little misleading, because a majority of the current Springboks will not be playing in the next RWC. SA winning the next RWC only enforces more that they are the most successful nation at RWC.

I love the boks but they haven't entered the level of the ABS from 2011 - 2015 yet. I think that team only lost like 3 or 4 games over 4 years. They didn't just win, they dominated. I don't think we'll ever see a team perform at that level again. The gap between the top teams has narrowed too much. Case in point -- the boks couldn't get a clean sweep against Ireland even though they're at home. Beside, GOAT debtates are just mental masturbation at its worst. Just be grateful we got to see great teams play.

Nah. Win record is one way to look at it. You have to consider the opposition. It is not even a question that the other world rugby teams in that era were largely volatile and average bunch. Good AB team but never really had a great team to challenge them. Muhammad Ali is the one of the greatest because of rivalries with other greats, Liston, Foreman and Fraser. Rocky Morciano retired undeafted at 49-0 and the only heavyweight to do it, yet almost no one (other than a boxing nors) is dipsuting Ali's claim over him. Why? Rivalries!! Good AB team in a era of mediocrity.

Rugby has evolved alot in 10 years. With stats and conditioning.. I think if they went head to head. The current Boks will win.

I agree, and if we win thw next world cup no one can argue. I think this 23 team would beat the old AB.
@kevinewert85464 ай бұрын
I don’t think there will ever be a team as dominant as that AB side for the simple reason that there are now 4 other teams that are good enough to be number 1.
@kiwiyasss67374 ай бұрын
If the Boks win the threepeat then surely that discussion about this Bok team vs the AB back to back team is put to bed. It is a different era now though, the landscape is much more competitive than it was back then with the rise of France and Ireland. You expect that that AB record can't be touched.

Didnt they just go 1-1 with Ireland? Hansen hand henry had 90% win rates.

No not yet. They havent done any dominating lile the ABs did over years. We have a long way to go before any kind of comparison is made.
@subhuman1194 ай бұрын
The short answer, no. The reason being is that the 2011-2015 All Blacks dominated everything during those four years, as well as a undefeated season. This current Springboks squad don't have the domination that the All Blacks did back then, and neither have they gone undefeated.

I see your point... It's a solid statement. Just respectfully wanna say, that between the years 2011 and 2015 there wasn't much competition to really warrant a threat to NZ. However, they were completely untouchable in those years. Nowadays, there's just so much threats in the international game no one's a joke or to be taken lightly. They had no legitimate year after year threat that really made them look twice. NZ and even the opposition of that time knew that ABs were the best. Made dominating easier for them and there's nothing wrong with that

@@juanstewart Not to mention the Boks being at their ultimate low. Completely different landscape now with the rise of NH teams

@@juanstewart Exactly!! Good AB team in an era of mediocrity. Great record, poor opposition. Bok worse record, great opposition. It is such a dumb question - in the space of 10 years it is already impossible to compare with how the game has moved on. Only salty Kiwi's reminiscing about glory days gone past.

2011 ABs could barely beat a piss poor French team at the 2011 home world cup. 2015 ABs only beat South Africa by two points in the semi-final, the same Springbok team that lost to Japan and was on the way down with Henneke Meyer. World Rugby teams were weak between 2011 - 2015, so can't be the greatest of all time if you are playing inferior competition. Put this in perspective Wales won 2 6 nations comps and Ireland under Joe Schimdt won 2. Nobody is saying those were great teams. The Boks were losing to Japan, and Australia were awful and lucky against Scotland and somehow fumbled to a WC final. The ABs were dominant because world rugby was at its lowest ebb. This Bok team eats up those ABs. Because they play and beat better teams.

Australia awful in 2015? You’ve got to be taking the piss . I actually agree with most of what you say that teams were a lot weaker back then but Australia in 2015 were unbelievable good. Probably the most attacking dynamic backline in years. Watch Bernard foley against England and the pace and synergy in their attack. Sam warbuton and Jamie roberts both said the best team they ever faced was Australia in the 2015 World Cup. Not good enough to win it but calling them rubbish is baloney.I agree tho I think the boks would beat them.From an Englishman
