@@lancsvermincontrol I remember I asked about that, going center-mass for flying-rats vs blowing their little brains out like for regular rats. Wondered if there was an advantage to one vs the other, like if any flapped around and got stuck in the rafters or anything. Didn't you have a video, or was it someone else, who brought in another guy (biologist or something) to explain head-vs-heart shots? Might've involved squirrels, I think. Memory's a bit vague... Reality is, whatever works. Even if it's instant lights-out with a head shot, I imagine just the physical shock of a CM shot might just overload the nervous system so they don't really sense what's going on.

@@lancsvermincontrol What do you think about Ed Leshiy? I have watched several of his squirrel hunting videos. On one video he was whining about vegans trying to get his KZbin channel shut down. Leshiy claimed that he killed squirrels humanely, using head shots. Near the end of the video, he said that subscribers were saying they wanted to see squirrels get shot in their vital organs. Of course this method will cause the squirrel to suffer before it dies. Instead of denouncing these sadistic requests, he gleefully posted a video of him shooting a squirrel in the vitals. The squirrel frantically tried to climb a tree after being shot, before tumbling to the ground. Mr. Humane Pest Control then took a closeup shot of the squirrel laying dead on the ground, with a gaping hole in its side.

I've come to realize that the popularity of .177 Caliber in The UK over USA is because of the Sub 12 foot pound restriction,... In .22 Caliber you would be running a hair over 600 fps with a common 14.3 grain pellet but in .177 you can run 800 fps with 8.4 grain or even 750 fps with a 10 grain .177 pellet & you need those speeds if you want to reach out to 50 yards/meters.

Even at 50 ft/lb with a hollow point slug they don't always expire right away. Don't listen to the "know it alls." You're doing a great job! I need to get back to the birds. Been concentrating on rock chucks lately!

In farm buildings I use a 6ft lb rifle to prevent damage to the roof, and head shots, because it’s a match accurate rifle, I am 100% guaranteed I can hit the brain every time, no criticism meant of your technique, just what I do.

Towards the end, the cows seemed to be cheering you on. It's interesting watching your videos, because you won't get every bird, just as much as you won't get every rat, but thinking about how without limiting their numbers, there would be exponentially so many more potential babies born if you or someone in your line of work didn't take them out of breeding. By the way, I was wondering why you weren't doing head shots like you do with rats, but you mentioned why.

Falcons don't go for headshots, they literally rip the preys wing muscles out and bring them down. Pigeons usually have a big crop full of food, and 177 penetration to the vital organs is sometimes a stretch, but also there are no roof punctures.

Hi I have lived in the countryside all my life . Becoming more and more sick of Tesco fodder am looking for an air rifle to get myself the od pigeon now then . Do you have any tips on an up to date air rifle and what sort of pellets I would need . I am in a good place and pigeons are all over the place , I only need to sit in my car and let them do the rest .

I had to skin a Rabbit without breaking the skin as part of my catering course training. I'm in the next Country to you Cheshire lots of Rabbits about here.

Usually I take some bin liners or find an old bucket in the yard and collect them all after a session, leave them some somewhere and message the farmer to let them know what I have done with them. They sort them out when I'm gone. Thanks Ian

Do you use a silencer? Our Local council employs a pigeon shooter. My brother is a window cleaner and is at work at 0500 am most week days. He often witnesses this guy turning up in a van with a 177 rifle with a silencer fitted and shooting rows of pigeons roosting above the entrances to flats along our sea front. The only noise my brother heard was the click of the trigger and the pigeon went down. The shooter worked his way down the line of sleeping birds and cleared the lot. After collecting them up the shooter popped them in a sack, bunged the sack in the back of his van and drove away, home for breakfast no doubt. Job well done.

Dude pay no mind to those that cry about your shooting. Those vitals are just as good and humane as head shots. As a veteran I can tell you first hand when hit with a bullet you don’t even feel it for several moments so for a pigeon to feel any suffering is bullshit. Not one head shot,? My experience with birds is a centre back shot was great... I also found out shooting the female first, then the males normally hung around longer. The females made an immediate duck... Was there not an issue of the pellets damaging the asbestos sheeting behind the pegions? To me the cross hairs were blurred.... but I still enjoyed da video.
