I have seen the same behavior over and over again, I think rabbits aren’t that aware of ‘death’ until the other body starts smelling bad, which they, just like us, don’t really like but not because they understand they are dead but they are easy “signal for preying”; otherwise I think they don’t comprehend (aren’t that evolved) to understand someone hit em on the head and it is just like they fell to sleep or something idk.

When I was kid back in the 60’s, I would harvest rabbits with a Crossman pump pellet pistol. I did mine at night with a flashlight . We didn’t have a lot of money so this saved a good bit on grocery bills.

So in the video you had one that was just out of reach down the burrow, not sure if you tried this one, when I was younger and used to go Ferreting we used to cut a length of bramble stick (quite a stiff bit, not the floppy new growth), knock off the thorns at the thick end to provide a safe handhold, shove that down the burrow and turn it round and round till you have entangled the pelt of the rabbit, then drag the rabbit out. Got a few out like that.

Windy conditions at a fair range you can just nick them eh.... its happened to me a few times tbf. I always have my telescopic stick in my boot I've modified it with a bit of barbed wire on the end, its handy for down holes & thick brush. A couple of turns into the animals fur & they come out. I'm only a short person so I can hardly ever reach anywhere lol. Nice shooting 😁👍👍

I’m amazed at how quiet this air rifle is, my Seneca Recluse II is the least quiet air rifle I own first time I shot it me and my mom looked at each other like yeah that’s loud and loud enough that it echos I’m tempted to set up my audio recorder far enough away to see how loud the air rifle actually is, maybe one day I still gotta sight my new scope in!

Fabulous! I have land with a rabbit problem where they dig leg-breaking holes in long grass. Thankfully there's footpaths (access land) so most people aren't at risk visiting. There must been many of them. Sadly because it's in a highly visited part of a leisure/tourism area it wouldn't be a wise move to have them culled. Much though I'd be AOK with that.

A local shooter with a .22 rimfire shooting subsonics and night vision - of even someone with an air rifle like this although to a lesser extent - will be able to reduce them over the course of a few weeks. No worries there with noise or 'causing a scene' with clueless townie visitors.

The one in the den out of reach can easily be retrieved by breaking off a small bush strip all leaves and leave the end ragged insert into the hole until you feel the rabbit then twist the stick until it gets harder to turn and pull gently

My mom used to breed show rabbits, we had well over a hundred of them at one time and I was brought up loving them. Watership Down is one of my all time favourite films and I, myself, could never bring myself to eat rabbit meat. But even I understand that this is necessary. Some people just don't understand the damage an out of control population of rabbits can do.
