This was cute and fun to watch! :D The realization at the end that you could use the soda pop to get to Saffron early reminded me of a weird and glitchy bootleg of Pokemon Green my friend got me, for some reason the guards will think you have a drink no matter what's in your inventory. You can cut straight to Saffron after Cerulean (but god forbid you try to look at any of the fossils in the museum, it crashes the game.)

I love generation one games. They had such limited hardware, but still managed to make a wonderful soundtrack.

Pokemon viability in Gen 1 was... different. You talked about Beedrill and Golem, but due to the specific workings of Gen 1 they are actually fairly viable (at least for the main game). Beedrill is one of the only pokemon able to learn an offensive Bug-type move, namely Twinneedle and Pin Missile, the other being oddly enough Jolteon. Bug type is not only the only type super-effective vs Psychic (but Beedrill gets 1-shot so that's not useful), but in Gen 1 was super-effective vs Poisons. This means that every single grass type in the game outside of Tangela and Parasect take 4x damage from bug type moves. You may say "4x damage but it's 25 base power" but move variety, availability and power in gen 1 is incredibly slim, and with beedrill being 4x resistant to grass it makes it the best pokemon in the game for absolutely destroying Erika's gym. Past that it does start to fall off. On the Golem side of things, sure it dies to any water move, but grass type moves are very rare. (You know they're rare when freaking Razor Leaf and Mega Drain are the best grass type moves in the game). Golem and Rhydon are in the same boat where if your opponent has a counter, they'll get wrecked. If they don't have the counter, though, there's not much your opponent can do to stop them. Gen 1 was very imbalanced in a lot of ways, but a good number of those imbalances ended up making otherwise-useless pokemon have a useful niche somewhere in the game, be it the insane crit chance of Slash making Persian viable, the broken nature of Wrap-effect giving even Ninetales a niche with fire spin, or poison being weak to bug letting Beedrill have something to do. Anyway TLDR Teddi is adorable and this mod made me laugh, thanks for uploading!

The references are very entertaining. They make watching a lot more enjoyable. Razor Leaf is not the second strongest grass type move in generation 1! It is the third strongest grass type move! This is because Petal Dance didn't have 120 power. However, it is the second strongest move the Bellsprout line can learn. I'm definitely looking forward to watching all 3 parts.

In Gen 1, moves like Razor Leaf and Slash had an 8x multiplier for critical hit rate. This meant for a Pokemon with a base speed of at least 64, those moves would hit the crit rate cap of 255/256. This essentially made Razor Leaf have a base power of 110 for most of its users. This makes it better than Petal Dance, with a base 70 power in gen 1, and better than SolarBeam, which took a turn to charge and therefore had an effective base power of 60.

Alternatively, just use swords dance once and then Hyper Beam through the whole team. If it kills, you don’t need to recharge. Just like that, you’ve beaten an entire team in 7 turns tops instead of waiting as many turns for Leech Seed and Toxic to stack.

In the first-gen, the accuracy was tied to speed which is why Rock Throw starts off with garbage accuracy and as you level up it gets better. It's actually one of the very few things better in the early games rather than the latter since having Accuracy and Critical hit chance tied to speed made that stat more important than the later games where all it does is decide who goes first.

Accuracy wasn’t tied to speed in Gen 1. Rock Throw just had an accuracy of 65 for some reason which made it trash. Crit Rate was tied to speed, though, that is correct

I have been playing along on a randomizer and this is the third video I have finished watching while I have made my way to S.S Anne. Starting off with Ho-oh, who doesn't get a move that can actually do damage until level 22, might have been a mistake. I'm 8 hours in. 🤣 Of the videos I've watched, you've caught up to me in the story twice. The first video was Emerald, I think (it was a 3rd gen game), the colour palette/type randomizer , the second was a red chaotic randomizer playthrough and then this and now I might as well continue to part 2.

@@icyroserade What have you been doing so far? I usually don't encounter issues. I just use the universal pokemon game randomizer, run the game I want to randomize through it, and it'll give me a file I can save, and then open in the emulator I use. It should be pretty straight forward. 😄

It's definitely difficult to remember. Level 2-4 Teddiursas are found in Johto in the dark cave, right before the first gym city, and will flee if you don't have a way to put them to sleep. They are also uncommon so players have to search to see one. Dunsparce is also found in this cave. But, it's more rare than a single Teddiursa.
