I actually really like the palette-swapping aswell. Normally I love the randomness of the randomizers, and changing mon's typing is also cool (changing stats are a bit too much because then there's basically no strategy or knowledge you can apply) - but usually the changes in type can be a bit too hard to figure out. Having this visual clue helps a ton; of course the colours can represent different types, but you usually have a really good clue

You can apply the knowledge if you randomise stats you just have to learn the pokemons stats like with the first time you played

@@Crater1221 If it is it's a poorly sanitized test. Most of his recent videos are some number in a series, whereas this one isnt. This also has a miscolored classic legendary pokemon and badges with words on the thumbnail. There are a lot of factors that could be contributing to this video doing better than other recent ones, including the title format change. That being said, this video has 15k videos, compared to around 5k views of other recent videos. This video has done better in 2 days than any video uploaded for the past two months, since the explorers of sky and 6 smeargle challenge first videos. So something about this video is doing something right

(will keep updated as more interesting stuff happens) I started playing an emerald pallet swap randomizer because of this and so far the notable events are: 1. grass type groudon starter 2. guts electric dragon nodoran female with EQ and hyperbeam as starting moveset 3. flying type serene grace minun freezes everything with powder snow 4. Wally caught what seems to be a grass type Absol (its green), no idea if he will actually use it for his battles tho. 5. electric steel sandshrew could potentially be awesome 6. potential rain team with a Drizzle electric type victreebel and rain dish umbreon (fighting rock) 7. Wow, found a pure power, adamant, fighting type magmar that started with cross chop and shadow punch. 8. HOLY S***, found a shiny Minun, still freezes everything 9. well apparently zapdos spawns in petalburg woods. tried to catch but ran out of balls. 10. one of the items on the ground in petalburg woods randomized into a master ball. next encounter was another zapdos (turns out its a dark type with flame body, also has ice punch). 11. decided to comment what happened to me on this video, may as well with all this crazy stuff, right? 12. Entei has taken up resedence inside granite cave, severely lacking in balls to catch him in atm. 13. massive amount of manetric with horn drill inside of granite cave. may catch one to use as insurance in case the run gets near impossible late game. 14. Apparently Steven's favorite move is selfdestruct, he gave me the tm and currently only Grassdon can learn it on my current team. may switch out flame wheel for it if circumstances become dire enough. 15. Seems that speed boost dustox has replaced magicarp in the encounter pool. Neat! 16. Normal ghost type walrein that spam explosion start to be encountered everywhere near mauvil. They suck to deal with. 17. Everything is dragon type for some reason. 18. I think mightyena is just pure dark lol.

The palette swap is great, what I think would really take this mode to the next level is replacing moves with ones that fit the type. For example, ember -> water gun if the type is water. Maybe a few random moves, but helping a little more with finding STAB moves.

I completed a randomised Emerald ROM a while ago that was kind of like this, except I could not tell what type any Pokemon was. It was a really good challenge that made me remember the time when I didn’t know any Pokemon’s types or weaknesses. It felt like a trip down memory lane and I loved it! I had a badass blue and purple Flareon (it stayed a fire-type, but could learn water-type moves like Surf), a Psychic-type Snorunt that appeared at the Volcano (and evolved into a pretty bulky Glalie near the end of the game), a blue Ampharos (that was a ground type), a black Porygon2 (that was a grass-type with Poison Heal as an ability), an orange Poliwrath that was a water/dark type but couldn’t learn any water-type moves and a pink Banette that was a ghost/normal type (it was a very unusual type combo, but a very cool one, as it had 3 immunities!) I met most of those Pokemon at the very start of the game (I even boxed my starter in the first town, as there were so many strong evolved Pokemon just freely running around in the first route)!

Wild pokemon dont regard pokemon species level-up move pools. Yes, most of the time the developers go out of their way to make the movesets of enemy pokemon correlate with the moves they would learn on level up, it's not like theyre restricted to those in any way, and there are many instances where enemy pokemon know moves you cant know, or know them at a level you couldn't. It's the same with evolution, you can find evolved forms at a lower level than you could evolve them at in some places, not because they can evolve early, but because the enemies dont evolve at all, theyre simply chosen. The level is chosen, the type and evolution stage is chosen, and the movepool is chosen, leveling up and choosing moves and evolving are processes that the player has to go through, not the pokemon themselves. So there is no reason to assume that enemy pokemon should have the same moves as you just because you are the same species
