I don't know what the puss is about on the 30-day limit. It's quite a fun feature that adds a little to the challenge. I personally think that the first one is a much better game story and gameplay-wise (Apart from the Pikmin AI and the frustrating controls).

The second game removes any sense of urgency with the cave system. It’s conceptually broken and breaks much of what the first game did. (3 did this idea much better) Even so, I still love the game all the same. Glad they’re reimagining the idea of caves for the new entry

As soon as I saw them announce it, my first thought wasn’t how the games played or looked, but rather how’d they go about dealing with the branded treasures in Pikmin 2 (like the Duracell batteries or the bottle tops). I honestly thought they didn’t wanna go through with editing or relicensing them which is why we’d never seen a more modern rerelease but it’s interesting to see they obviously put a bit of work in there. It is a a shame though, since seeing all those common everyday items in the game added to its charm, in my opinion.

I always forget that a lot of people really don’t like the 30 day time limit in pikmin 1. For me, that time limit is the reason why I fell in love with the series. The world of pikmin is vast and beautiful, but the threat of total destruction looming overhead if you’re not fast enough really grounds the game in a way that really works for me. Yes it’s stressful, that’s the point. It makes every victory feel like a huge gain, and really makes it feel like you’re beating the odds when you have a plan go just right. Losses are similarly amplified, which makes you really care about every decision you’re making. It also means something narratively. Olimar is a normal guy put in a truly life or death situation and you get to see how he reacts to it throughout the whole game. He’s genuinely intrigued by the pikmin and the world they live and he want to know more, while simultaneously being shaken by the idea that he might never return home. The story and gameplay here feed into each other masterfully. Olimar is already well written, but the constant ticking clock makes you relate to him even more, and really care about what he’s doing all this for.
@GoldenLeafsMovies Жыл бұрын
I've always preferred the isolating feel of the first game, even if it's more clunky. I also hate the bs difficulty of the second game, lol.

@@CurlyChopI actually appreciate how each of the Pikmin games feel very different to play. The challenge of Pikmin 2 comes not from the time limit but from not being able to replenish Pikmin in caves, especially with how difficult the caves are in the second half of the game
@lukers9819 Жыл бұрын
Other games in the series do not need a day limit, but I truly believe that Pikmin 1 needed that time limit to be a great game. Not for gameplay purposes, but for story and thematic purposes. Olimar's urgency to survive to be able to see his family again is such a critical and endearing motivation. If the game was simply Olimar crash landed on the planet, but there is no urgency to leave whatsoever, the game loses one of the games biggest strengths. The other games don't need to have an arbitrary day limit, but the day limit in Pikmin 1 was not just a game mechanic. It was a tension that was felt by both the story's main protagonist and the player. The fear that a father and husband might never be able to see his family again. It is the reason why Olimar feels such a depth of gratitude to the Pikmin, as he literally owes his life to them. These emotions ring true all because of what in most games would just be a limit imposed for difficulty. Not all of the games in this series need a day limit, as not all of the stories need to evoke the same emotions. But Pikmin 1 was enhanced dramatically from a story and atmosphere perspective from this one addition.

Interesting to hear your thoughts. I always much preferred Pikmin 1 BECAUSE of the time limit! It makes it much more fun to plan and strategise to make sure you can do everything and have enough Pikmin saved up for the challenge at the end! And seeing the daily reports at the end of the stage building up to the end of the time was a great way to see it play out. @dooplon5083 Жыл бұрын
take it from someone with personal experience with the first one, the timer is barely there by your second playthrough, and basically gone by your third lol. You have ample time to collect all the parts and can make you pikmin so efficient you speedrun it as part of the gameplay loop. also a handful of parts aren't even necessary either so thats nice (though some that are required are kinda odd tbh)
@QwixLF Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Pikmin 2 can get you comfortable with the basics of Pikmin just fine, definitely enough that playing the first after that will make the timer a non issue. But the first game is lenient enough on its own and short enough that running into the time limit isn't the end of the world.
@dooplon5083 Жыл бұрын
@@QwixLF Hell, if you screw up you can even rewind the clock on the save screen to redo stuff from that day onward, the time limit is super lenient and if you managed to do two parts a day you'd probably manage about 17 or so days of game time, hard to do fir a beginner, sure, but it just shows how lenient it really is. (my first run on switch was 24 days but I played it a ton years ago lol)

Something that always bugs me about Pikmin remasters is the lack of full integration of 2 player, especially in Pikmin 2! The main campaign could easily have the split screen done in modern Pikminn. It shouldn't be locked by the hardware of its time keeping 2 player only for smaller one on one maps.

I'd already bought these last night, but good to hear the ports are well done. One interesting point - I always struggled to finish the first game because of the 30-day limit, but they have included the rewind functionality from the later games in this, which I don't remember being there in the original Gamecube version. So if you cock up and waste a day, you can always rewind and have another go at that day. I have a feeling that will save me a few times! 😅

I feel like the playtimes are a bit misrepresented at 7:11. Pikmin 2 is a much longer game than Pikmin 1. If it takes the full 30 days to play 1, then you'll need much more play time for 2. It makes every mistake actually matter, on the following games, u could just make mistake after mistake, and you would always have more days to fix your mistakes, but on pikmin 1, if u messed up and couldn't find a part that day, than you are screwed, u need to somehow make it up in another day and find 2 parts, wich is really hard.

Bruh this is a miracle, they could have done a Skyward Sword HD move where they sell each game for a full $60

Are the non-gyro controls simply the GC layout, or is it more modern like 3?

7:15 Aren’t the days in the first game 15 minutes long not 30 minutes long?

I guess that the frame rate somehow is connected to the game speed as often in games of that generation and because of that we have 30fps

Exactly! People liked it just fine back in the day at 30, but now act like everything has to be 60+ or else the game is an unplayable trash, makes me so sick of hearing people wanting 60 in games that we grew up with/loved at "just" 30.

I played both games back in the day and enjoyed both. This is a must buy for me but I’ll wait for the physical copy. Thanks for the video guys!

It has been a bit since I played the first 2, but I thought the days were 15 minutes. Also, the time limit in the first game was only an issue the first time I played it. After that I could always play through the game in 25 days or less. I bet there are some hardcore people who can do it under 20.

It depends which version of Pikmin 1 you played, but US/JP was 13:30 for each day while Pikmin 2 was 13:02 globally.

I bought the bundle (both 1+2) but have been constantly frustrated with the seeming lack of a march function! It just makes delegation so much easier rather than having to throw one-by-one. If i am missing the march can someone tell me how to do it?
