I think you have a valid point, but if there is ONE thing where I think Pikmin 1 surpasses all other Pikmin games (including 4) is Olimar’s writing. While I don’t condemn the stories and characters introduced in the other games, I still find Olimar’s loneliness in the first game the most compelling. It made him feel like one of the most human characters Nintendo ever made. He’s not a god or a chosen hero, he is a normal person that wants to see his family and is scared of the planet he is in. In a world filled with creatures that are multiple times his size, he knows he is but a feeble tiny thing in comparison. He is interested in the world, but ultimately he is also scared of it. And that kind of thing is not something you see much of in the later entries. Again, I don’t think that Pikmin 2, 3 and 4 have BAD stories or BAD characters, I like them all really. But Pikmin 1’s story just captivated me a lot more.
@abluntuser940 Жыл бұрын
100% with you on this!! Olimar's expedition logs are some of the most interesting things written in the pikmin series. The only thing that comes relatively close to that is Olimar's biology notes in the Piklopedia entries in Pikmin 2. But I still prefer the expedition logs over those. I just really like Olimar's character a lot, and I was actually quite disappointed in with more "artificial"(It's hard to describe the tone?) dialogue in Pikmin 4. Something is missing in P4 in regards to the characters as a whole. Pikmin 4 is what Pikmin 2 should've been. I just wish they had balanced the pikmin types a little more in P4 so that we had more reason to use all of the other pikmin.
@memorableman3709 Жыл бұрын
@@abluntuser940 I think what you mean with “artificial” is that the characters are ALWAYS focused on their goals. The rescue corps is focused in rescuing castaways 24/7, Olimar is focused on getting out of the planet, things like that. They are always talking about what they need to do, but not even a single time do they even hint at them feeling anything. Olimar was focused on going back home in the first game, but besides that, in his travel logs he earnestly talks about being scared of not making it back. He talks about missing his wife’s cooking, wondering how his children are doing, reminiscing about them after finding objects that they gave him as a gift, and even getting angry at his wife at one point for once saying that he gives up too easily. That one specially is one of the most human entries to me. That entry is written on like the twenty-something’th day, so he doesn’t have much time left, which obviously distresses him greatly. He is terrified, he is scared, and that makes him prone to anger, but because he has nothing to discharge that anger on, he discharges his anger on the thought of his wife “insulting” him by implying that he isn’t trying. He ends up getting mad at the very people that he DESPERATELY wishes to return to. That, to me, is possibly one of the flawed and human things Olimar has done.

The writing is good in Pikmin 1. But the moment you've read everything once, you're not going to give a shit about it in future playthroughs. I don't play games to read them. I play them because I enjoy the gameplay. Pikmin 1 doesn't have the variety of content that Pikmin 2 does to make me want to revisit it.

I think this also stands to a technical degree. Pikmin 1, as silly as it sounds, has the best text boxes. They're so quick to skip compared to the other games and don't over explain or railroad much (which is something you can't say about the other 3 games). If non-dialogue cutscenes were skippable I think it would be the perfect Pikmin dialogue system. The illustrations are also very charming.

This was, to my knowledge, actually a glitch in the GCN versions that they never patched. They were supposed to function a bit more like the bomb rocks from 3, where Pikmin could throw them a small distance if there was something they could use them on (enemies, walls, etc). Instead they'd just stand there when thrown and wouldn't drop/throw the rock unless you whistled them. The Wii and later Switch ports would fix that and have them use Bomb Rocks normally.

Since I am going to leave out Bitter Sprays, I will have to leave Oatchi, Glow Pikmin and Ice Pikmin out as well to be fair to both sides. Call me crazy, but I feel Pikmin 1's lack of content and short length are actually make it better. I was thinking about how after you complete the game, it features a scoreboard for how many parts you got in how many days alongside your Pikmin totals, and then it hit me: Pikmin 1 is the perfect blend of classic hi-score style arcade games and modern story based games. Okay, maybe not PERFECT, but the blend is there. It has a leaderboard and keeps tracks of points, but it also has an engaging story in regards to Olimar trying to get back home. The game only takes place along 30 days, and as you and many others say, it doesn't take long to beat (at minimum 6.5 hours if you use every day), so it naturally encourages re-playability. The content of Pikmin 1 is playing the game again and again, memorizing layouts and enemy location while maximizing Pikmin numbers and organization (smth smth dandori) until you can get all 30 pieces in as few days as possible. And I get that's not for everyone. I also feel Pikmin 1 is a bit of lighting in a bottle, and you can't exactly rehash its experience in the same way you could Luigi's Mansion, for a random example. It's probably why the series never had the same kind of day limit like it had, with Pikmin 3's being very generous.

I’m gonna try and defend Pikmin 3’s story mode a bit cuz I’ve actually played it a lot, more than the other games as of now. I get that the game is easy but, for me personally, that has encouraged me to try and push myself to do more and more difficult challenges, like a 10 day run or a minimum Pikmin run. To me it feels the most conducive to pushing myself and doing more and more things in a run thanks to both its relative lack of challenge and also the nature of the 3 captain gameplay. Trying to accomplish as much as possible in as short a time if possible with the three captains is about as fun as it gets for Pikmin, and it’s what keeps the story mode fun for me even though now I’ve played Pikmin 1, 2, and now 4 a ton and am all too familiar with how difficult Pikmin can actually be. I know not every player is going to feel pushed to play this way, and also Pikmin 3 was the first one I played so I have some bias there. But I genuinely think that it holds up super well, and I go back and forth between whether or not it or Pikmin 2 is the better game (I think 1 is probably the weakest and 4 is probably the strongest, for whatever that’s worth).

Fruit in Pikmin 3 really shouldn't have been the main collectible. Story-wise, it makes sense, but the only other thing to work toward is the main mission with the Cosmic-Drive Key and Olimar. The fruit is also visible on the map at all times, so even if you were really running out of fruit, you could just spend a single day getting some and risk pretty much nothing. It would be different if there were other collectibles and challenges to bring in some more strategy to the fruit system. The Formidable Oak is my favorite part of Pikmin 3 because it provides meaning to collecting fruit since you can't get any more while there. Unfortunately, it's the only area in the game that does this. If they made more areas like Formidable Oak and had them be pretty much the replacement for caves, just that time passes and a day ending means depleting your rations, it would've made 3 a much better game, in my opinion.

Here is a tip for the OG Pikmin! When a Yellow Pikmin is carrying a Bomb Rock, they will drop it when you whistle only AFTER they've been thrown, if they are dismissed, they do not drop it when whistled. For me, this was actually better than in the Switch/New Play version because it meant I could easily call a Yellow Pikmin away from a Bomb Rock when fighting the Emperor Bulblax on no death runs, in the Switch version, I struggled to get my little Yellow dudes to drop their Bombs during the fight, and had to rely on them tossing the bomb into the Bulbax's mouth, making the fight more difficult for me. I've been playing the OG on GC since 2002 though, so it's probably just me growing used to those old and outdated quirks, but I find the Pikmin to be easier to manage on the original when compared to the Switch version. I've personally always been of the opinion that each Pikmin game does something that makes it the best in its own way, so I can't agree with you entirely, though I _do_ agree that 2 is probably my favorite, but here's what I like about each game: Pikmin 1 has the best atmosphere and music, as well as a great motivation to survive on this mysterious alien planet, and is the most replayable for me, learning to beat it as quickly as possible has always been a blast! Pikmin 2 has the most challenging content, and some of my favorite enemies, and the caves all add a significant amount of playtime. I especially love playing it with various mods, such as the Co-op mod with my Brother who's been playing Pikmin with me my whole life! Pikmin 3 has my favorite story of the three, with a stronger sense of pacing and progression than the previous games due mostly to it being linearly structured, each area doesn't focus on exploration, but on opening up the level and building up towards the Boss of that area, and the Bosses are my favorite in the series, it's a little more "Game" feeling than the first two, but I enjoy that for Pikmin 3 at least! I haven't played much of Deluxe, but after playing the other three games, it's time I give this one a second playthrough after not having played it to completion since 2013, but I personally always found the Fruit to be my favorite collectable in the series, even after playing 4 I still feel that way. For me, it's not the items themselves that are important, but the narrative reason behind collecting them, in Pikmin 1, I'm saving myself, in Pikmin 2, I'm just treasure hunting, but in 3: I'm saving a whole planet. I wish the day limit was stricter, having a set day limit until "Koppai Famine" event would have added a much needed sense of urgency, but overall 3 is still one of my favorite games. Pikmin 4 takes the best ideas of the original three games, and builds from their foundation, it sacrifices some difficulty, and I hope a "Hard Mode" gets added in the future, because I personally found it easier than 3, but I did play it just after replaying 2 and haven't played 3 in a few years, so it may just be my faulty memory that makes me feel that way, but either way: Pikmin 4 has an insane amount of content, and will promote many more playthroughs in the coming years, especially once people start challenging themselves with a "No Flarlic/Upgrade" runs, or even a no ridable Oatchi run, there's an endless amount of ways to challenge yourself with this game, and even without them: You still have the Dandori challenges, Olimar's Shipwreck tale, and I can spend hours in the Piklopedia just fighting the enemies and trying different tactics. I'll have to digest it a bit more before deciding if I enjoy it more than 2 or not, but either way, it's a great game!

As a Pikmin fan who only just recently completed Pikmin 1 and is at the final stretch of Pikmin 2(preparing for those three caves in the Wistful Wilds if you know what I mean), I really have to agree on most of your points. It was really annoying to have some of my Pikmin constantly trip and I'm forced to not just periodically stop time to time(like in Pikmin 2 once you unlock the ultra fast boots or when having purple pikmin in your party) but just wait like five seconds while spamming whistle hoping that it'll force the Pikmin to get up faster(to no avail of course). To be fair to Pikmin 1 though, I did find that most of the time loss doesn't really come from Pikmin being obssessed with grass(annoying as that is at times) but mostly just wasting time due to not knowing the locations of the ship parts. So I really do like how it encourages you to learn the areas by heart, which is an element slightly removed from Pikmin 2 due to the day limit not being a thing. But it's whatever. One thing I feel like you didn't mention that Pikmin 2 does way better than Pikmin 1 though is the bosses. Sure they might not compare to the giant cinematic multiphase behemoths that Pikmin 3 seem to have, but compared to the Pikmin 1, it's a huge improvement as I feel like a lot of them are more unique and bring out different aspects of the gameplay. Pikmin 1 only had like two challenging fights and one of them isn't even that hard, just a bit annoying due to their being THREE borrowing snagrets in one location. On the other hand, fights like the Empress Bulbax requires careful maneuvring of the environment while taking care of the babies, but don't spend too long killing them cause she'll just lay more. Or the giant breadbug which fills the environment with electricity hazards forcing you to choose whether or not you want to slowly take out said hazards with yellows, or just gun for the food right away with your limited purple sqaud. And don't even get me started on the Man At Legs which requires you to take cover and try to either draw it out of it's hiding spot by learning it's ai, or just gunning for him, something that was never even been attemped by Pikmin 1, and is a unique gameplay mechanic, something Schrafillas DOESN'T mention at ALL despite being as infamous as the waterwraith. It's not super revolutionary or anything but I feel like a lot of the fights required more thought in that regard than the minimalistic bosses of Pikmin 1. Not to mention Pikmin 2 just has MORE of said fights, which is good cause it makes each and every dungeon feel rewarding to complete. Something that Schrafillas also conveniently failed to mention. "Corners were cut" my ass. Way more enemies, way more setpieces, way more music tracks, way more bosses, way more stuff to collect, with each enemy and treasure having an analytical/comedic breakdown from Olimar with most of the treasures having a unique sales pitch from the ship. It really is a wonderful sequel and I can only hope that Pikmin 4 will live up to the hype when I evantually get to it cause everyone seems to agree that it might be the best one.

I like to think that each Pikmin game appeals to a different 'kind' of pikmin player, dependent on what they enjoy from the franchises design choices. Pikmin 1 has a lot of soul and emotion along with (subjectively from me) good balance of gameplay and mechanics with a somewhat threatening (especially to new players) time limit, making Pikmin 1 possibly a favourite from those who enjoy those elements of pressure and emotional weight. Pikmin 2 has extreme difficulty and traps to keep you on your toes and constantly stressed and worried for what's around the corner, and really cool collectables and extras to the game, like the Piklopedia and Treasure Hoard, with plenty of variety for those seeking new challenges (even if it's sometimes a bit unfair) every game, making Pikmin 2 a favourite for people who like those elements of chaos and stress. Pikmin 3 allows for the most intense strategising and speedrunning potential of a more linear Pikmin game, as well as having an addicting mission mode and multiplayer, making it great for people who enjoy the strategy and time management aspect of Pikmin games. Pikmin 4? Tries to balance everything out into a neat balanced Pikmin experience (though it leans a little toward Pikmin 3 imo) making it great for Pikmin fans that like all of these aspects nearly equally. The point of this? I just think that people like the different games for their different goals in what they love the most from Pikmin. 4 is my favourite, but 3 takes a close second for me because I love strategising and challenge potential of the missions and story modes. Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3 are definitely way better than 1 as a game since they have more options as to what the player would want compared to 1 and also just handle different playstyles that a player could ask for. Though I think Pikmin 2 edges out Pikmin 3 due to the fact that the main story has a different gameplay variety than 3 and that the enemies have a chance to be much more brutal if careless compared to Pikmin 3. Granted I do think that Pikmin 2's story would have lent really well to just have a time limit by the beginning and just remove the time limit entirely once the debt has been paid off letting the player explore at their own pace to find Louie and that the caves just had their own timer like in Challenge Mode while also just removing most of the random jank.

I really like Pikmin 2 and have great memories of it, when I heard that 3 had removed the whole collectibles part, I was so discouraged that I didnt get it Removing treasures and piklopedia was such a downgrade that I knew it wouldnt be the same Pikmin 1, which I didnt play either, felt that it was Pikmin learning to walk, so I thought on skipping it but I might get to it at some point. I was very happy that Pikmin 4 brought back the greatness of treasures and exploration that I have been playing it non-stop, I can agree that is at the same degree as Pikmin 2

Y’know dude, this video would be a lot more easier of a watch if you toned down on the sarcasm. This is kinda personal, but I don’t like feeling like I’m getting talked down too. But whatever that’s a me problem. For me, I like 1 and 3 more than 2 by a good bit. For 1, while it was short and very buggy at times, it felt like it was still tightly made together. The day system, as well as the way you had to get the parts and the challenge of getting them as quickly as you can felt tense, but rewarding at the same time. And with the backdrop of the entire storyline of Olimar being shipwrecked on PNF-404, it adds a lot to the game I feel. The vibes of 1 are pretty unmatched I’d say. For 3, The game is easy to a bit of a fault, but even then, it’s still very fulfilling to play. It builds off of the two captain system 2 introduced, but makes it SO much better. With 2, while having Louie with Olimar felt good, I noticed it didn’t really enhance multitasking like I thought it would. Because I have to constantly switch between both characters and if I’m not using one, they don’t do anything. That’s not to say it NEVER adds to the gameplay, but I just wind up using Olimar and Louie together much more in the game than separately. The “Go here” command single handedly FIXES that issue. Being able to send one captain somewhere, while doing another thing at the same time felt like what Pikmin 2 was trying to do, but stumbled executing it. And having *another* captain on top of that makes the gameplay much more engaging by virtue of all the multitasking and strategy planning you’re able to do. I always ask the question of “what am I going to do today” when starting a new day in Pikmin and try to plan for that. With Pikmin 3, there’s so many ways you can go about planning a single day. Do you want to send one of your captains off to do one thing, or keep them all together? I can send one captain off to get fruit, have another one boost up my Pikmin numbers, while one makes progress in the story. You see where I’m getting at? Also 3 hits a cord with me for the narrative it has. It was genuinely engaging to follow Alpha Charlie and Brittny in a similar way to Olimar in game 1. It doesn’t totally hit the atmosphere that Pikmin 1 hits, but it gets pretty darn close for me. 2 in comparison to both 1 and 3 feels really iffy too me. I figured having no timelimit at first would make the game more enjoyable for me than 1 (even though I liked that one a lot.) but I just didn’t like a lot of the execution of a lot of the stuff it did. I already mentioned that adding two captains didn’t really add too much in the long run for me. And the Caves are a really neat idea, but personally I’m not that big on random bombs falling on my squad and killing some of my valuable Pikmin because I didn’t notice it. Or a random Spotty Bulbear to screw me over. I know part of Pikmin is preparing for things you that might go wrong, but sometimes you *just* can’t prepare for that stuff. With 1 and 3, when I make mistakes or lose Pikmin, a lot of the time I feel like it’s my fault more often than not compared to a cave in 2. And It’s not like that’s a TOTALLY bad thing. If they did it once or twice, It wouldn’t be that big of a deal. But when it happens so frequently, it feels like a problem. The caves also feel like more of a slog to get through at times. 4 doesn’t always just throw waves of enemies at you. You also get slight puzzle rooms in between, rooms that mix up your progression somewhat. I don’t remember if 2 did that, I’m pretty sure it did a bit, but not to the extent of 4. And with 2 being such a massive game in comparison to 1 and 3, the thought of having to deal with a lot of that for most of the game turns me off somewhat compared to doing another playthrough of 1 and 3. So while 1 and 3 (or at least base 3 I guess), are much shorter, and have much less content than 2, I find them MUCH more easier to get into, and much more enjoyable. (And it helps both are super replayable too.) For me, I really like the “dandori” aspect of Pikmin, and 1 and 3 feels like it gives me options to try and multitask, and finish up everything I want to do in a day before it’s over. 2 in comparison feels like it’s pushing against me to do that with somewhat cheap tricks, weird decisions (and enemies that just downright suck at times too.) This isn’t to say it should be easy. For as much as I like 3, I feel like 1 had a better balance of difficulty and multitasking, where it feels like your more at risk of losing Pikmin, and mistakes are more costly, *BUT*, said mistakes are on me for being too reckless. In 2 it feels like everything can and will go wrong wether I’m careful or not. And it’s not like I hate 2 either. I’m glad 2 managed to get a lot of love from 4 that 3 skimped over in favor of improving 1’s gameplay and making strides of it’s own. (Seriously, a lot of the caves are really cool in 4). I can play 2 pretty fine, but a lot of it just seems really daunting and tiring personally. It’s just not for me. Sorry about the long comment, I just feel like I had a lot to say. (I commend you for reading this far if you did.) For what it’s worth, we can agree all 4 games are really good with their own strengths and weaknesses.

tbh i prefer easy games with good level design over games that mostly rely on cheap difficulty spikes and randomized level design to keep its difficulty, if there is a balance of the two like for example: super meat boy then that would be preferred but elsewise i play games to have fun and to use as an escape from the daily grind, not to break blood vessels as i have to restart a floor for the 15th time because the game spawned a bulbear on top of me and my squad with no warning.

Pikmin 2's main problem was that there was no option to go back to the main menu, meaning that you needed to restart the game, or exit back to the Switch's home screen and exit the game and reboot it, in case if anything out of your own control happened and to not waste time in the main campaign farming for more Pikmin.
@HidinginPrivate Жыл бұрын
That's mostly true. Exiting into the switch menu for me wasn't really a problem and in the gamecube you could just push reset and be back pretty quickly. I also didn't do it very often regardless and I normally had plenty of pikmin so no farming was necessary
@sO_RoNerY3 ай бұрын
This kid is a fan of Pikmin 2, you’re not going to read how annoying it is to exit Pikmin 2 and reboot the game. Fanboys are very oblivious when they’re a fan of a game. Things that are annoying to most-fanboys won’t admit it like those that speak the truth. For me exiting to the main menu is annoying in Pikmin 2. People like HidingInPrivate doesn’t find it annoying. I find Pikmin 2 tedious, people like Hidinginprvate doesn’t. Fanboys will pick on the littlest things about games after it previous titles. It’s just how it is. Having to control both characters in Pikmin 2 gets tedious. Having to whistle or pluck them, is tedious. Pikmin3 and Pikmin 4 have this feature that you can let the COM move for you while you’re doing your thing before it gets dark. And also have them pluck Pikmin.

My first introduction to Pikmin was Pikmin 3 the original one, and I’m really glad because I feel like if I had played Pikmin 1 or 2 first it would’ve completely put me off due to the difficulty and I think it’s completely valid to have the game be a bit easier because we have to take into account that this was A LOT of peoples first Pikmin game, so having it be on the difficulty of the first two games may have pushed people away who may not now what they’re doing. I will say tho that I wish the stuff they added in Deluxe was in the base game because that just makes more sense, but honestly I think heavier an easier game in the series to start out with may be a good way to go.

I played 2 for the first time recently and felt as if it was balanced more around resource management in the pikmin than time management. 1 also had a lot more of this than 3, especially because 3 was so easy and boss corpses give an absurd amount of pikmin. However, replenishing pikmin after significant losses in 2 never felt fun to me, nor did doing an initial lap of each floor of later caves to watch out for bomb traps to prevent sudden significant losses. I see that as two logical extremes; either take heavy precautions, or experience significant losses to unengaging bomb traps. Neither of which are fun. I could be missing something and I did only play the game once, but I really can't think of anything else besides ultra-bitter spray freezing bomb dweevils and/or rocks, if that even works. The resource management is certainly an interesting concept, but 2 didn't do enough to make it engaging to me, and for now i prefer gameplay that's based on time management. I also played 3 first so I have bias. I do think 4 made some steps in the right direction for resource management, but is held back by its lack of overall difficulty.
@quibquiberton4184 Жыл бұрын
Totally agree about spending days to regrow pikmin, and walking cave floors to trigger traps. My advice about the cave traps is to not worry about it and just bring your pikmin along anyway. It's definitely not "optimal," as you'll likely lose more pikmin, but it's just more fun to do in my experience.

Thanks for another great video! Interested to hear your thoughts on Pikmin 4, as one of your points about Pikmin 3 was that it was “braindead easy,” but I feel like Pikmin 4 is even worse from this perspective. That said, I’ve yet to hear anyone seriously critiquing this aspect, and the general consensus appears to be that Pikmin 4 is “basically perfect.” I felt like sometimes I was playing 4 on auto-pilot, throwing Pikmin with little concern as no matter what I seemed to do, Pikmin just wouldn’t die.

Finally someone says it. Like bro pikmin 2 was peak BECAUSE it was tough and scratched that exploration itch. I play that game so often I know it through and through and still find it a fun challenge. People typically complain bitter spray and purple pikmin make it too easy and I'm just...don't collect as much then? Don't spam sprays or purples? I dunno what to tell you lol. The difficulty made me love it so much. But then 3 came out and I'll be honest the lack of C stick made me out it down as a kid because the games controls felt bad to me personally but then I watched my sister play it and found it...boring. pikmin 4 tho??? Very fun very good. Sure it was painfully easy to me but the story was fun, the controls felt fine even though the C stick mechanic wasn't unlocked until post game and generally I just had a really good time and weep because there's no official giant Oatchi plush that I can worship for being a good boy. But in all pikmin 2 was the best and I'll be honest I hate how easy a lot of old franchises have gotten in the new age. When I was younger if a game was hard you had to get good lmao
@sO_RoNerY3 ай бұрын
It used cheap RNG difficult spikes to Pikmin 2. Pikmin 2 also gets tedious. Too slow for me. You cannot even set a wave point to let the COM control Louie or Olimar while you go do something else. What makes it easy for me not worrying about subset is entering the caves. Downside is you cannot respawn more Pikmin. In order to do that, you have to EXIT the caves, spawn back up top, leave the world and enter another world after a certain amount of days have gone to farm Pikmin. Not to mention not abled to farm Purples or Whites when you need them. Because of the games cheap male RNG, if you have zero whites and zero purples, now what? How many days do I have to wait for everything to respawn? Boring. Slow.

Personally, I wouldn’t say that any pikmin game is downright bad, since theirs always something you can find in each game that’s unique to it. But pikmin 3 (even though it probably has one of the most intriguing stories in the series with the plasma wraith and umibozo theory), gameplay wise is the only pikmin game that genuinely feels unfinished. People may say pikmin 1 also feels that way but that game has old game jank and is debatably less glitchy as 3. With most of what you said about pikmin 3’s bosses, graphics, and music I agree on. With 2 literally just being an straight upgrade of 1. 4 has an similar amount of quality of 2 in exchange of retconing the plot an bit for Nintendo to kill the umibozo theory. The ranking I’ll give of the 4 would be: 1. P2 2. P4 3. P1 4. P3

Comparatively speaking, they are much harder. Mainly dealing with health of enemies, damage output, number of hazards, likelihood of hazards killing you etc. The fact a wollywog in pikmin 1 can stomp 30 pikmin to death in one blow, but pikmin 3 has a pikmin type immune to being crushed should make the comparison obvious on even a surface level

Kids be saying Pikmin 2 is harder due to the games cheap-ass lame RNG, and more enemies added when there shouldn’t be that many in caves. Like wtf is with those robot balloon things that float? You cannot even kill half of the enemies unless they’re on the ground because the radius is small.

Man I love all the Pikmin games so much it’s pretty hard to pick a favorite I think they’re all pretty solid. Although 4 might be the one to take that spot. However I believe Yellow Pikmin “randomly” blowing up your squad is factually wrong? Correct me if I’m wrong but what triggers their violent tendencies is all up to the button inputs meaning you would need to pay attention. Whether that is a mechanic you like or not is fine, but I’m pretty sure “random” explosions aren’t a thing. Personally to an extent I actually like the Pikmin plucking grass, and tripping, and running off to solo an enemy that got too close, and all those little quirks. It’s true and important that the pikmin are made to feel like an extension to the player’s capabilities, but the Pikmin are also living, breathing, thinking creatures. They can be clumsy, they can be lazy, they like to play and all that stuff, so I find it really charming when they get peckish for some nectar and start ripping apart the grass. It’s a reminder that they aren’t mindless drones or tools and gets me more invested when they inevitably die. I don’t know I guess that’s all Everyone should play Hey! Pikmin because I also enjoyed that game a lot.

I am actually glad that they removed the caves from Pikmin 3. If it had caves, we would have a situation similar to Pikmin 4, where they would run out of unique ideas, copy ideas from Pikmin 2, make the caves laughably easy, and remove the resources management element. And, in Pikmin 3’s case, they wanted to design the game more like Pikmin 1, so I understand this design, and happy that they did a good job and stuck with it.

One thing about Pikmin 3 people dont seem to mention is the overpowered nature of winged pikmin. Purple Pikmin get a lot of hate, but winged Pikmin are just as broken in my opinion, just for different reasons. Winged Pikmin can sequence break to an absurd degree. pretty much any puzzle involving a ledge is over before it began, any paper bag can be pushed early, and most hazards are useless against their flying nature. The fact that they're infinitely reproducible and come earlier than the blue pikmin do doesnt make it much better (and therefore invalidate the water shortcuts of blues and high throw of the yellows entirely for the most part). Hell, they tried to nerf it in the deluxe port and they STILL couldn't stop their powers. Unfortunately, though, Pikmin 4 kind of goes the Pikmin 3 route with the winged Pikmin in the sense that theyre nerfed to the point where they feel kind of pointless. I feel like they could have easily made them balanced if they just included more spots where you need them (flukeweeds, clipboards, and scornets).
@train4292 Жыл бұрын
I think part of that comes from Wings being introduced really late, and not getting their own onion until MUCH later in the game. That’s one thing I don’t like about Pikmin 4. They way you get some Pikmin types WAY too late. And it’s pretty convoluted to get more Pikmin without their onions.

In Pikmin 1's defence, the Pikmin being kind of stupid and distractable makes them feel more alive. I wonder if it's at least partially intentional. 100% agree. Pikmin stopping to pluck grass, or staring wide-eyed as a pellet is sucked into an onion seems to really aggravate Hiding, but it makes perfect sense for them, and is actually kind of endearing to me. I just love the gameplay loop the Caves add and just all the new stuff and improvements from the original. it’s one of the main reasons I don’t love pikmin 3. It took away so much of the things 2 added and didn’t add anything to replace it that made the sacrifices feel worth it. Additionally, i think Pikmin 3 does multitasking way better. I always felt pressured to have both captains with me at all times in Pikmin 2, because there wasnt an easy way to control both captains at the same time. In pikmin 3, this was fixed with the "Go Here" function. In pikmin 2, it takes me several in game days to collect all of the treasures on the surface of an area. In pikmin 3, i can collect all of the treasures in an area in one day. If there's one thing I'd note, I think Winged Pikmin are absolutely busted in Pikmin 3 / Deluxe, arguably just as much as people say Purples are in 2. With a full squad of Winged Pikmin, which are incredibly easy to obtain, you can absolutely slaughter any threat easily, they can carry things in the air across shortcuts and to no threat of any enemies, they can do basically anything that's not an express elemental Pikmin need. Winged Pikmin have lower damage values than others, yes, but with even a sizeable amount of them in your party and the braindead charge feature, they just delete everything with absolutely no difficulty. It's literally insane and I'm shocked I never see anyone else talking about it lol. Pikmin 4 kinda balances them by not giving you the ability to freely grow them until the final area, which sort of hurts their usefulness a lot (I finished the game only using like 30ish of them lol), but its generally much better than what happens in 3. You'd need to go out of your way to farm them. Rock Pikmin are also super good and essentially the go to combat option like Purples were. They can easily stunlock bulborbs, do mass damage to every enemy, are invulnerable to several forms of being killed that aren't outright being eaten or burned/drowned, they're shockingly strong, though I'd argue the Winged are more ridiculous.

Personally think 3 and 4 are way better then 2 but it’s nice to see your opinions

What control scheme did you use with Pikmin 3 on Wii U? If you use the gamepad, then it's pretty cumbersome to lock on and charge enemies, which led me to only use it in certain select situations where the enemy was already stunned. Maybe with a pro controller its much easier to spam, but I'd suggest maybe trying a playthrough with the gamepad

As someone who beat Pikmin 1, 2, and 4 (I just haven't gotten around to 3). I have to say 2 is so much better than 1. Mainly due to the new Pikmin and Louie. My only gripe is that the Pikmin being naturally slower than the captains is SUPER annoying, especially after playing Pikmin 4
@Camo1718YT Жыл бұрын
In all honesty, I agree with basically every single take in this video. I always had problems with Pikmin 1 even as a kid because of how slow and jank the gameplay felt, but as an adult I can appreciate the Olimar notes for being legitimately interesting and deep at times. 2 even though I sucked at it as a kid is now my all-time favourite Pikmin game. Its challenges are the most satisfying to beat for an experienced player and the low day challenges are actually so fun to do (my pb is 11 days for all treasures). It also has the best sense of strategy in caves because you'll always have to stay alert and know all your options or else it can lead to disaster. And also aside from bitter spray and purples the game doesn't have many overpowered options, but enemies also have less health than in 1 and most bosses have easy to cheese strategies once you learn about them. It's overall a great game for Pikmin experts but if you want a more casual 2 experience then play 4 pretty much 3 I always felt lacked in real difficulty because it kinda lures you into thinking there will be a day limit like in 1, but in practice its so easy to get juice that it just becomes a number ultimately. It also has a very narrow structure in story mode and kinda discourages you from collecting every fruit since a lot are duplicates and you CAN'T go back to grab every fruit after saving Olimar. 4 is close to what I was hoping for with the return of caves but honestly my issues come with how it feels like artificial difficulty. Limiting to 3 types above ground doesn't feel like it has a purpose in story context or a gameplay perspective, if it was explained better in lore and maybe boosted to 5 I feel like it could've worked like the older games but no. Also the game at times feels EASIER than 3 which is baffling. Ice Pikmin combined with Oatchi upgrades literally skip a lot of the game's challenges because you can just Oatchi rush stun + Ice Pikmin + spicy spray to defeat any challenge mostly. Also doesn't help that charge is as good if not better than it was in 3 meaning any Pikmin can tackle any threat pretty much. Also there are Dandori challenges and night missions to do but aside from one battle with Olimar every single one can be SKIPPED and you still get the castaway so you never have to replay them unless you want platinum, and the game NEVER penalizes you for skipping them multiple times. I can see an attempt and I can commend it to some degree but it will honestly never hold a candle to 2 for me overall

Pikmin 2 is easily my favorite but I find myself having a blast replaying Pikmin 3 the main appeal to me is beating it as fast as possible. 3 captains and go here lead for insane Dandori. I’d put it about even with 4.

My issue with 4 is that it’s extremely easy and too simple. 3 type limit is the worst offender to me it makes all the maps way less interesting and could have easily been 5 types instead.

I did like the Fully debt repaid, credits, after the credits, and 100% completed treasures in pikmin 2. Completed 100% treasures in pikmin 2 is great because of how Olimar gets to look down the ground and see pikmin sing "Pikmin, Pikmin, Pikmin."

I honestly like all 4 pikmin games about the same i think they all have their own unique pros over each other like 1 has the best feeling of isolation and is the quickest to replay, 2 has the biggest challenge, 3 has the best mutlitasking and side modes and 4 has the most content to dig into I love em all

If pikmin 2's caves had different design and didnt feel so drawn out and monotonous by the end itd definitely be a contender for my favourite. Its got SO many great things going for it with just 1 or 2 big parts of the gameplay experience i can barely endure

id be curious to hear your thoughts on pikmin 4 considering that game plays itself even more so than pikmin 3
@jimmz6 Жыл бұрын
i feel like some people like pikmin 2 & 4 better because of all of the content and increased difficulty (not as much for pikmin 4) and all the content (as a 30 hr experience) in them and others prefer the speed and replayability of 1 & 3 (as a 2-3 hr time management challenge) i have all the switch versions and beat all but pikmin2 and i have enjoyed all the games and have replayed 1 & 3 a few times but I personally find pikmin2's caves very frustrating and after playing about half of the pre end game caves i just haven't been very motivated to go back to them and i may not fully agree but i respect your oppinion

The bomb rock problem from Pikmin 1 on New Play Control was fixed there and was actually my first time playing Pikmin 1. So, I had a considerably higher opinion of the game when I played it on Wii than those who did on GameCube! Haha! I remember Arlo describing the jank of Pikmin 1 on GameCube and being appalled by how the different the two versions were. Granted though, the Wii version is home to some annoying bugs that weren’t in the GameCube version. So it’s not perfect, but I am surprised that they were in this re-release in the first place! Like, Pikmin die under bridges, Pikmin died when a bulborb died on top of a bunch of Pikmin, and a sound effect doesn’t sound right (the mini bulborb death sound is very off). There is stuff like Pikmin not always taking the most optimal route, and that is annoying. Like, in Pikmin 1, they could have the blues go through the water and not wait for the bridge to be built. But obviously ruins the game, and the motion controls really make this my favorite version to play (even though I haven’t played the GCN version. I know, fake fan alert).

I loved Pikmin 1, but I just did not enjoy the caves in 2. I felt too constrained in my movement and maneuvering my Pikmin, and there was a particular water floor of some cave that I finally just gave up on and quit the game after losing 50 Pikmin 9 floor down to what felt like tiny mistakes. I liked the rest of 2, but 1 always had my heart far more. I still need to play 3 Deluxe and 4 so no thoughts there, but I will list some thoughts on 1 below: • Having played 1 for years and not having a ton of experience with the other games, I am just not bothered by the jank. I know how Pikmin react and behave, and they rarely do anything that I didn't want them to in a way that doesn't feel like my own fault. I always nudge bomb rock holders, I always consolidate before bridges. I think about how the Pikmin will trail and take into account that they are little dumb-dumbs who will fall off cliffs or pick grass if given the chance. I'm sure I will enjoy the smarter AI in 3 and 4, but I adjusted to how 1 played and it just doesn't bother me. • The 30 day time limit feels so core to the Pikmin experience to me that not having it just feels weird and wrong. I like how it leads to each day not feeling like a crazy rush, but still forces you to be cognizant of your actions and mistakes. Granted, it didn't take me long to finish the game in the time limit, even as a kid, but it allowed me to pursue that goal and then work hard to get my final day count as low as I could. No day limit in 2 made it far less memorable, and the fruit system in 3 definitely sounds too easy. • I adore the main collectable being parts of your crashed ship. While not all feel full necessary, and not all are, I loved finding a recognizable piece of the ship from the intro, carrying it back to base camp, and watching as it got added to the skeleton model of the Dolphin, slowly piecing it together more and more until it is finally pristine again. The treasures in 2 were quirky and fun, but I was far less excited to find one than I was to find a ship part, and fruit sounds extremely boring. • I love how the day limit allows areas to change over time. Watching new enemies appear when revisiting old areas, having the game world get more dangerous as the days click closer to 30, it made the game world feel more alive. The environment existed and changed whether you were there to see it or not, which led to more value on repeat play throughs. Stumbling on the Smoky Prog egg for the first time on my 3rd or 4th run was such a discovery, and a terrifying one that took out over half my Pikmin reserves at that. • Finally, I like the loneliness of Pikmin 1. Sometimes I enjoy putting my Pikmin away a minute or so before nightfall and just wandering the map alone, listening to the music speed up then fade away as the clock ticks down and the darkness sets in. I find the other games to be a little to... active? There are too many other characters, too much dialogue, too many things happening distracting from the core experience for being trapped on a hostile but beautiful world and trying to escape. Pikmin 1 just feels like a very pure expression of the concept and I appreciate that.

I just beat Pikmin 4 but I’m on the fence and think Pikmin 2 might still be better if not just because all but one of the normal caves in the game are 5 floors are less in Pikmin 4….

Fortunately deluxe was my first dive into pikmin 3 because i didnt have a Wii U. I really enjoyed it. And definitely has some of my favorite bosses. But overall, it was really easy and felt way too short. Pikmin 2 was still my favorite. I really enjoy pikmin 4 as well. Although I wish enemies respawned. Hard to say which I liked more, pikmin 4 was a really fun experience, with a lot of content. But pikmin 2 pushed me harder than any of the others. And it felt more rewarding for it.

this man just speaks my mind i also think something is missing in pikmin 3 like the pacing is so fast and we were missing a bulbear map like in pikmin 1 but there was a map scrapped to pikmin 3 launch that had watery blowhogs and alot of bulbears i think it would have made the game alot more enjoyable
