In my opinion I’ve always really loved pikmin 3, but it has been consistently easy, mostly because I feel like it mostly thrives in it’s time management aspect. The absolute joy I get trying to get all the fruits in the lowest amount of time is unreal and super satisfying.

I don’t always want a challenge in the difficulty sense, sometimes the challenge I want is challenging myself to see how quickly I can beat this boss, how quickly I can get all the fruits, how quickly I can clear the formidable oak, Optimizing my routes is the main thing I adore about pikmin. It’s not always about difficulty, sometimes we just need well thought out maps and a some strategy.

@@ShiaTheBunnyGirl So true. Pikmin 1 was based on managing time around scary enemies, Pikmin 2 was enemy spam, and Pikmin 3 was all about immersion and crazy optimization. Luckily Pikmin 4 seems to lean more into that with enemies that are just hard enough without being Groink-tier nuisances.

Heff insists he's not good at the game, but the ability to adapt and be persistent during intense limitations is a sign of skill to me! Maximum Spice definitely doesn't hit the difficulty sweet spot the way True Spice does. Just like in the vanilla game, the 60 Pikmin limit just makes tasks feel tedious and persnickety than an actual challenge. There were a lot of resets caused just by Pikmin deaths; if you're running deathless, then whatever, but this level almost forces a deathless challenge. I think if you could have 100 Pikmin on the field, it would be more fun.

I really liked the 60 Pikmin limit in the vanilla game! It was fun trying to complete the game in the same amount of days with less resources. You really had to be careful with how you distributed your Pikmin. It might be too much when it comes to the Maximum Spice mod, no comment there, but I thought it was a great addition in 3 Deluxe.

The boss fruits aren't nerfed as hard as everything else. Most fruits are worth 1/8 as much as Normal/Hard (1/4 as much as Ultra-Spicy). Boss fruits are worth 1/4 as much as Normal/Hard (1/2 as much as Ultra-Spicy).

I wanted to mention this in the Pikmin 4 trailer analysis, but I thought people wouldn’t see it there. Here it goes: in Pikmin 4, Pikmin can lose their flower status. You can see it when they fight the fiery blowhog. The red Pikmin are all flowers, but once they get shaken off, there’s an animation for flower loss like in Pikmin two (I haven’t played the first one, so I don’t know about the first one). Then, one of the red Pikmin is a bud. Sorry if this isn’t good comment etiquette, this is my second one of all time.

Pikmin 3… I wanted to play all 3 Pikmin games again before the release of Pikmin 4 and while 1 and 2 went swimmingly, 3 frustrated me enough to quit the game altogether. The first time going to the Distant Tundra as Alph and Brittany is a genuine test of patience if you want to optimize the day the best you can. It is there that the different mechanics really show: lock-on is not as reliable as you might think, the Pikmin do not automatically come back or at the very least STOP when they’re finished building, and the physics are wonky enough that Pikmin can get stuck between objects. Also, the amount of times I pray for swarm to miraculously come back in the game is an understatement!

im doing the same thing and i *really* enjoyed pikmin 3. it feels like the actual sequel to pikmin 1 and 4 is the sequel to 2. but yeah the lock on works GREAT when it works... but when it doesnt i wanna pull my hair out lmfao and the lack of swarming does sorta suck but the pikmin also stay really tight together when they follow you. it just feels more balanced than 2 for me and that shit was my childhood

In retrospect, Pikmin 3’s lock-on isn’t all that bad but it takes getting used to. Ultimately, I was way too spoiled on Pikmin 2 Wii’s aim mechanic: the best addition for a Pikmin game!

While the enemies are easier in some regards, I feel like what really makes base Pikmin 3 so easy compared to the older titles is the quality of life changes. My first game was Pikmin 3 and I remember that once I beat it and got a handle on the controls the game became a lot easier. Now I've recently been playing pikmin 2 on my wii and I can not count the amount of times that I have gotten upset over not having the charge, lock-on targetting, and the dissmiss function as it is in 3, and even the dodge whistle with me. So many things I find in base Pik2 I feel like, at least for me, fixed with the addition of more modern controls and items. Now obviously if the game were to ever be remastered then the dodge whistle would not be in it , but I feel like if they added charge and lock on targetting then the game would be far easier in some regards.
