Pikmin 4 - Area 100% Speedrun - 13 days / No deaths

At last, here is my complete Area 100% segmented Speedrun of Pikmin 4! This run was done with no deaths and in 13 days, which is the minimum in game days to clear all areas. As you can see, it's not necessary to cure all castaways to get 100% area completion, which I guess is a good thing since you can skip night missions after dying (that would be pretty boring in a run...). It's also not necessary to complete all side missions for that matter, nor getting platinum on dandori challenges.
In hindsight several things could be changed in the run and route, but overall I'm happy with this first attempt. I might try at some point to play this category in RTA, but that's a quite long run!
Now that I'm done with this challenge I will try some RTA, not sure what yet but a shorter category. ___________________________________________________________________

Is minimum days part of the stated goal for the run? You could save a few minutes by returning to Sun-Speckled Terrace with Dingo to be able to skip Trial Run and Dandori Day Care (unless Trial Run is actually unskippable?).

Back in the years before high-speed Internet made live streaming feasible, segmented runs were the norm rather than the exception for most speedgames longer than 2-3 hours, especially in RNG-laden games. In terms of optimization they sit somewhere between RTA runs and LOTADs.

Yeah, a segmented speedrun is basically a bunch of "individual-level" speedruns glued together end-to-end.

You could put it on both, however, the regular 100% is already deathless in most runs. Then there is any% route which is most certainly faster deathless than 100%. Not to mention this isn’t even the most optimal route for 100%.

How are you able to get oatchi swimming by the time you reach blossoming arcadia?

If you throw Oatchi into an elemental hazard (this includes water), the Captain will get angry at you, but the next before an expedition, you can go to Russ' shop and he'll have developed the immunity for it. Similarly, the day after Oatchi is placed in water and struggles to stay afloat, the Captain will say that she trained Oatchi on swimming

When doing 100% you have to do an extra one to cure Olimar. In other categories you can save a glow sap from the previous night mission, since you don't have extra castaways to cure. But here that extra dose is "wasted" to cure another castaway so you must do another night mission

@@arachnidz7750 the thing is that I thought they were required because the first dandori challenges were done (I forgot you needed the ranger to skip them) and I didn't know you could skip the night missions. Also if there is a speedrun with those requirements I'll be happy to know it!

on one hand, it's convenient that you get to skip what technically ultimately amounts to an autoscroller when it comes to dandori battles, but it's a shame it comes at the cost of obligatory skipping of all other dandori challenges, which you *could* beat with absolutely rapid dandori efficiency, but given that skipping them utterly is a faster, available option, a speedrunner still has to skip them along the way out of obligation. of course, you could always run those courses as an individual challenge, but it'd be nice for the runner's experience to get to play through them properly in longer runs, rather than just... commit seppuku about it and let Dingo handle the fun stuff.

Since they’re cleanly separate from your game state before and after, it’s ok to just have individual level categories for them since they’ll play the same (not counting upgrades like the pluck whistle or Oatchi swallow)
