I don’t think it’s bad ending olimar. I think if that is olimar, he came back and got pikminized on a new trip. I think they added the whole “why do ships keep crashing” bit in that other trailer to kind of confirm that this is taking place after 3. I think they are going down some route here where something is pulling the koppai/hocatate ships down and pikminizing them, our goal is to save as many as we can, which acts as a time limit of sorts. Olimar may be the red guy we see, and maybe saving him requires saving all of the other captains.

Like the bulbmin are effected by a parasite maybe olimar and the dog are corrupted by the same or similar parasites hence why the dog also has it i was talking about this as a theory during the stream I said maybe we have to find a way to cure him or study him to make sure it does not infect the other castaways

A time limit based on how long the castaways have to survive on status sounds like an incredible idea. Although unlikely, we could have different castaways have different survival timers and you have the option to try to save all of them in time, and maybe if you dont save them all they become those Pikminized versions that you need to somehow convert back.

I'd like to mention that it was actually mentioned somewhere in the first two games that olimar's "dog" looks a lot like bulborbs, so oatchi being bipedal makes sense. Odds are he's a different breed, but I can see why he'd be considered a dog on hocotate.

It may not be bad ending Olimar; here’s my theory In the pikmin 2 piklopedia this is the entry for the bulbmin: “This loathsome creature is in fact a parasitic form of Pikmin that has infected a bulborb. Unlike Pikmin that nest in Pikmin onions, this parasitic relative spends its life inside the body of a host, usually a bulborb. Juveniles fall in line and mimic the actions of their parent until maturing to full independence. By burying its rootlike limbs into the nervous system of the host bulborb and infusing it with natural hormonal excretions, the bulbmin is able to control virtually all of the hosts bodily functions.” I would love to see this parasite pikmin in game. Maybe it’s going to be a main enemy throughout the game. Possible it’s a combination of the bad ending and this parasite. Or I’m just totally wrong lol. Guess we’ll find out when the game drops.

I don't think it's bad ending Olimar. I think it's bulbmin parasite Olimar. Bulbmin are a parasitic pikmin controlling a bulborb, after all. Maybe Olimar got infected by it himself, and the parasite is making him find more castaways to also infect. Also, 14:40 Glad to see Nintendo using their new Splatoon stage design idea of "just make it a tetris piece" on other games too /s

Having only three types means you have to choose to forgo purples for elemental pikmin if the situation demands it, i.e., you can't just mindlessly bring purps everywhere and stomp through the game.

What if, and this sounds crazy, Olimin is a Pikmin that evolved after Olimars first contact, or at some point during all the games, to lead Pikmin when no captains are on the planet, and he takes the castaways to make more Captmin

Another comment said that that may be the reason why the Plasm Wraith was so determined to protect Olimar because it confused Olimar for this Pikmin-Captain fusion

My gut says this takes place after Pikmin 3, where Olimar once again crashes but this time couldn't escape after 30 days, so the events of the Pikmin 1 bad ending played out. If they went with this being a timeline where the bad ending occurred instead then it would retcon Pikmin 2 and 3 to some extent. And I don't see Nintendo giving enough of a shit to explain how those game's didn't actually happen.

Imagine if they made a non-boss version of it that's totally harmless like wogpoles. You enter the cave and see all these tiny water wraiths waddling around without any rollers and they bring out the real deal like 10 floors later, where it operates exactly the same as in 2. The perfect way to make players scared and paranoid, then lull them into a false sense of security after a while so you can completely blindside them midway through a random floor.

The fact that Dandori battles are spit screen even during single player tells me that it will be a 2 player mode as well. It's possible bingo battle could come back as an alternate 2 player mode, but I think it's unlikely.

I am very confident that the blue guy in the background at 17:50 is the same as the person at the bottom of the 2 reports about PNF404 which you can read on the Pikmin garden website (in japanese). Their name according to google translate is "Inspector Sharon". the inspector part of their name as well as the reports makes me think that they are a bureaucrat. I think the fact that they're a bureaucrat that does nothing is going to be played up as a joke. maybe he'll fill out papers to allow you to get certain abilities that won't get filed until you get off the planet (therefore are not usable until after the game is over) or something. This is why everyone else has a little icon above their head while "Inspector Sharon" just has "..." Given the contents of those reports he likely has other people working with him, other bureaucrat, scientists, historians, and archeologists trying to document the findings on the planet. A consistent theme might be that there are a known number of members of the rescue team to save, which each give you new tools and abilities to use, like night mode or Oatchi upgrades, while there is a non-specific number of other castaways to rescue which add flavor to the world but not new abilities or tools.

Although it’s just a fictional game made for children, it’s kind of upsetting that Olimar wouldn’t be able to return home to see his wife and kids, or at least not without a spacesuit.
