Pikmin always had bits and pieces about the game taking place on a post-apocalyptic Earth, in particular with PNF-404 being stated to have an atmosphere comprised of oxygen. But with all the weirdly in-tact suburban household locations, it seems like it was caused by some kind of rapture-esque event rather than some kind of natural disaster.

It looks like you’ll not only be able to customize your character, but all the other crew mates too. When you find a cast away, you can’t see inside their helmet and they just have a blank default jumpsuit, so maybe you get to control how everyone of your crew mates look! Or maybe that’s just for secrecy on what castaway you’ll find. Who knows, just a thought. :)

This implies humanity may have made interstellar transportation possible.

There's a lot to unpack here, the demo comes out in one week, all pikmin types in story mode, the evil "bad ending Olimar" (who will probably be a recurring character) and whatever reward the night mode gives off.

As someone who played hours upon hours of 1 and 2 on the GameCube growing up, I can’t emphasis how cool it is these games are finally on the switch. Felt like something yearned by the community for so long, and it truly never felt like the Pikmin franchise would ever get the attention it deserves. So cool man can’t wait to play all 4 on my switch

I was iffy on Olimar being involved again, but I like what they did. They murdered him and turned him into a Pikmin hobo! Like the first games bad ending! This all looks amazing too. The Mamuta and Armored Cannon Beetle are back, and the new creatures look awesome too!

This looks simply amazing. I am so ready for this game! Also, it seems like this game really does take place after the bad ending of Pikmin 1 if the leafy Olimar is based on when he gets turned into a Pikmin in that ending

So a very possible timeline split, player-determined upgrade progression, every type appearing in the main campaign, and the ability to get haunted by the spirits of all the Pikmin I've managed to lose? This game is going to be something else, and the wait couldn't end soon enough!

Okay, silly theory time. The Pikmin timeline is being split. On one side of the timeline, Olimar makes it back home in Pikmin 1, then returns to PNF-404 with Louie in Pikmin 2, and finally meets the Koppaites in Pikmin 3. This is the side we've already seen. Now, we are getting the other side of the timeline. Olimar did not make it back home in Pikmin 1. Instead, he died and got turned into a Pikmin-like creature through the onion. A rescue team has been dispatched to rescue him on PNF-404 since it is near the location his ship was last traced. Welcome to Pikmin 4.
