Doesn't have to be. It could be that inbetween Pikmin 3 and 4, Olimar went on another expedition, but this time it went wrong and everything in the bad ending happens inbetween Pikmin 3 and 4 instead.

The implication at the beginning of Pikmin 2 is that the Pikmin don't exactly thrive when Olimar isn't around. So from the perspective of the Pikmin, this could be the very best ending: one where they get to keep their leader around all the time. Although in this version of the ending he's not terribly competent.

i do wonder how much of his inteligence the onion managed to preserve. i mean by the looks of pikmin 4 it seems like it keeps him at a higher level of thinking than the pikmin themselves, with him still being aboe to give out commands and plan out tasks, and even basic speech. maybe all that was lost was memory

That's something I noticed too (about the music, I mean). If you get the happy ending, the song sounds properly satisfying and conclusive, like you accomplished everything. In the okay ending, to me, it sounds like you did what you needed to to get Olimar back home but still only managed to do it by a small margin- something you'd say "Whew... made it" to. Meanwhile, in the bad ending, it sounds melancholy and sad, even (I think) judging of you for failing...

This is because the crew from 3 are from an entirely separate planet with no connections to Olimar at all. The Real question is what happened to Louie and The President, since without Olimar they'd have never repaid the debt.

Personal theory: the unknown character we seen in Pikmin 4’s Dendori battle is probably bad ending Olimar, as they have his suit, and his hair, as well as his eyes, and resembles a red Pikmin. I could be wrong when the game releases, but who knows?

@@angusetPersonally, I don’t think so. The bad ending could also happen at any moment whenever Olimar would fail on his adventures, and not just in the first game. (Even tho Piknin 1 is the only game that lets you see that ending). So it could still be in the same timeline and after the second and third game. But your idea was also really cool😎👍

There's actually a third ending if you only collect 29/30 ship parts where Olimar quickly rushes to his ship and leaves without having a proper goodbye with the pikmin

The 5 parts not required are the space float, uv lamp, secret safe, nova blaster, and the other part I don’t know about. Yellow parts are optional. Blue parts are needed.

About the only that struck me as odd for the bad ending, was the Dolphin being in one piece and upright when the Pikmin are carrying Olimar to the red onion.

In the games you make more pikmin by getting them to bring pellets or dead creatures back to the onion. In the first game this us the bad ending. In the first game you have a set time limit to find all your ship parts. If you don't get enough in 30 days then Olimar tries to leave in a damaged ship because he was out of air (or whatever they breathe) so ots likely he was dead when turned into a pikmin

Personally, I don’t think this is what Pikmin 4 is gonna continue off of. Sure we have a very Olimar looking creature in Pikmin 4 as seen in the newest trailer, but I have to wonder: If Pikmin 4 is based on Pikmin 1’s bad ending, then where did Olimar find his own dog? I don’t know, I do see the possibility of it taking place after the bad ending, but I hope it’s not, because in Pikmin 3’s final entry log by Alph, it’s said that Louie was left behind on the planet once again. I’m still hoping to see what Louie’s connection is to this planet and why he keeps wanting to return to it.

Pikmin 4 couldn't be following up to Pikmin 1's bad ending, because in the custom captain video, the narrator told us that Olimar was exploring PNF-404 with a team, but eventually they all crashed.... but in Pikmin 1, he crashed the ship on PNF-404 on his own

I feel as if he got stranded (again), but, realized his ship was utterly totaled, and was not able to make it back to hocotate. This is one of the few early gamecube games. N64 was prior and they had some gruesome bad endings. I would say NES, and SNES were infamous for the bad endings, and creepy game overs...

Hey GameXplain sorry that my comment is 5 months late but, I think it’s possible to get the bad ending even with 28/30 ship parts and with all of the parts that physically appear on the SS Dolphin. It is something to see when the ship is almost completed but it ends up crashing back tothe planet’s surface again. To get the almost completed ship bad ending, you have to collect all of the ship parts that physically appear on the SS Dolphin, and all of the necessary internal parts except one, you also need all of the optional parts except the secret safe.

Two things I noticed. One: Its likely the Pikmin can control wether or not the Onion takes their delivery, as when you lay down in-game, they take you to an onion and you just bop off it instead of getting sucked in and converted. Two: The ship managed to crash **upright**

@@Gojifann That was a theory I had for a while, that the onion could only accept dead creatures and pellets, but Ravenous whiskerpillars and Gattling Groinks seem to be exceptions. And I always thought it was Olimar doing that. The ship turned downward during the liftoff sequence.
