I’m realising how much Piquazhang I use in my Bajiquan. I can also see how Pi once the strike is completed, when the hand is low it could easily be reversed into Ding Zhou 💪

Love what you're doing man. The connect to bajiquan at the end is dope. I can't wait for this week's "episode".

Bajiquan London glad you liked it and nice of you to catch the detail at the end! Two very different styles with completely different jin can very well mixed together.

I always find it so interesting that there is the idea that Baji and Pigua are always combined yet often you find zero emphasis on Pigua. Same with jingangbashi actually - though that's often VERY heavily emphasised. Love the videos though, keep it up please!

Because of legends like God of Spear - Li Shu Wen, and all the Japanese manga and video games, HK movies... Bajiquan has been hyped up so much. I think the reason that people don't emphasize on Piqua is that people are not thinking about the practicality combat aspect. The thing is, undeniably Bajiquan is a very effective in close quarter combat, but anyone who tried to use Baji in sparing would know that it is extremely difficult to come even close to someone like a boxer. Hence that's when other styles come in, Piqua is perfect to close the gaps. I've seen some lineages in China actually have some PiQua techniques fuse within their Bajiquan and it's great.

Yes, definitely with regards to the fusion of the two. I'd go as far as to say that it often seems as though Pigua is either "just" a part of the baji curriculum OR only taught as an adjunct to it quite often - it really is under-emphasised. I'd be interested to see how many Baji schools that include Pigua in their syllabus actually teach it purposefully - not just because it's one more thing to learn.

There is so much pigua influence in the baji I learned from my teacher who actually is from the birthplace of baji. There is also a lot of baji influence in his pigua. Not only that but also a lot of tongbei principles. They fit soo well together.

Interesting to see how varied the application of a technique can be even between 2 wutan schools. My teacher James Rodgers taught this slightly differently, specifically he taught the 3rd part of the movement as more of a throw or a push, like the ward off or part horse's main in taijiquan. Also i think the point about setting up the strike is true for a lot of techniques in chinese martial arts.

Thanks for the comment. I've never met James but I know he is my kung fu brother Tony Yang's Disciple. Part of the WuTan family.

Love the applications, thanks, but surely a shorter guy would get less opportunity to use pikua against a larger opponent.
@wutan_nj
@wutan_nj 5 жыл бұрын
agreed, Length/Height is definitely a big factor. However, Pigua is a good way for shorter person to maximize his reach... but of course, if a short pigua guy against a tall Pigua guy, the shorter would have less chance to get close...

前輩,請問對手是有如阿里這樣步伐靈活多變的人,八極的步法多較單一,有什麼應付方法嗎?
@wutan_nj
@wutan_nj 6 жыл бұрын

Hi brother. My shifu lived in China for more then 13 years and learned Wushu from master Wu Bin, Yu Cheng Hui, Yu Hai and other masters. I learned Modern Wushu and some about Bajiquan, Tanglangquan, Pikuaquan, Tongbeiquan, but just a little bit.

I see master Yu Hai's TangLang Quan is very good! from my understanding, TongBeiquan has a deep relationship with PiKua too.

PiguaZhang is a very old style of kungfu. Back then there’s no separation between striking and throws, no distinction of what a “striking” is. Just a pure and maximum use of the body to deliver the most effective blows. This is amazing! Thanks for sharing the Strongest man ko’d Rolls Gracie clip.

No offense,但左手架開直接刺拳下去就好了,第一人的手沒這麼容易抓,第二現代武術刺拳後會立刻收回拳頭保護頭部,第三動作太大容易被架開,所以在當代已經沒人使用劈掌技術了。

People who are dangerous who strike trees and hit steel, could easily make it work because it wouldn’t be expected. Don’t be ignorant a fight in the street is very different to a ring fight.
