I am am ‘older gal’ - 80 next year. We get used to being called all kinds of slightly silly and sweet names. I don’t mind. I did a few of these for the first time at 11pm! Will do them again properly in the morning. Very easy for me with chronic back pain, and other difficulties. Thank you.

My chiropractor is suggesting Pilates. I am older and have a weak lower back/pelvic area. Took a serious fall from a horse many years ago. Now my lower back has healed, but I need to take responsibility, drop some weight and find a practical routine that will strengthen and improve my flexibility. I also like the Yoga style breathing and stress reducing routines. Thank you for your channel. I will follow with interest. My goal in the next six months is to lose weight and be significantly in better overall condition for my 70th birthday. My blank journal is open and I am starting in ernest on August 1st, with my chiropractor's approval. I recognize Hatha Yoga cat, which I love!

I know this was posted awhile ago but, thank you, this is very helpful. Not just for “older women” but anyone of any age that requires modifications (scoliosis, back injuries, etc.) I do have to admit that the “they, their” etc phrasing as if “older” (Not sure if the age cut off or parameter was noted here) sounded as if it was an “us vs. them” distinction. Unless you are unfortunate enough to die early, All women will be Older Women (as opposed to other groups such as pregnant, postnatal, disabled etc. which not everyone will necessarily be a part of). Other than that little sensitivity of mine, this is great! Although “older” now (56) I’ve lived my entire life with back issues such as scoliosis, transitional vertebrae, Hyper-mobile vertebrae) I’ve still managed to dance - ballet, lyrical, African- hike, bike, skate etc. Pilates and yoga are both great for managing cumulative damage from over a lifetime of being very active and making your body strong enough to remain active.

I used to go to a fantastic Pilates Teacher but a bit far from home so had to stop. This young woman works similar to the one I had. Great to watch and now motivated me to do the moves again. Very nice, I teach a class that is a blend of yoga and Pilates in an active over 55 community. I've bruised my coccyx and was looking for some new moves that did not require any lying on the back work. I like the lying on the side options which I have not used in a while. Your video reminded me of some exercises that I did a long time ago and had forgotten about. I've subscribed to your channel and plan to be an every day user. Thanks!

Do you specifically teach this type of class on "Pilates Anytime"? A gentle, mindful pilates geared, not only to "older gals"(you KNOW you will never live that phrasing down :) but people suffering from knee/hip injuries and trying to regain mobility? Even though you created this for instructors looking for alternative movements, I really felt a great stretch and lengthening that I do not get with yoga. Thanks again for posting!

I have been teaching along these lines for 18 years. While these exercises have been introduced in the context of 50+ women, they would benefit any population. In fact, many (male and female) youngsters (e.g. 20 year olds) these days have trouble with posture and alignment in general and specifically in some of these movements (e.g. hip hinge, shoulder retraction). So... don't think that this is wimpy exercise, it actually requires (and builds) a lot of body awareness, which is essential for everyone, at any age, and especially athletes.

i wish~! the older gals I work with cannot get up and down from the floor!!! its been quite a challenge to come up with reformer workouts that do not aggregate their knees, necks, low backs ...,many cannot sit crossed legged, many cannot lift their head for hundreds and such, many cannot do bridges due to bulging discs, many cannot lie prone due to vertigo....challenging to find something new that everyone can do for each class any books, videos or suggestions from anyone I would appreciate very very much. PS. I am also a physical therapist, which is why many of our clients have these issues...they come to our studio when they are finished with PT

+gavink80 During some "exercise for older people" course, I was told to avoid neck flexion in older people anyway, such as those seen in the Pilates rollup and Level 2 of the Hundred. So my suggestion is keep their head on the mat. They can still get a workout.
