PILATES HISTORY
There are a lot of myths about Pilates and Joseph Pilates. One Joseph Pilates DID NOT name the system after himself. He called it Contrology. During this interview it blends from moving with Pilates to the business of Pilates. If you enjoyed this interview and found it insightful, I would recommend reading the book as well!

This interview edifies on how J. Pilates considered the practice of his invention. I realize that Pilates has changed over the years and has been complicated comparing to how Joseph Pilates conceived it ! The example of the Teaser shared enlightened me a lot. Thanks for sharing this wonderful time with John Steel !

Wonderful and so interesting. I read the book in practically one sitting but Mr. Steel's point in this interview was new--that you do it, and that is what you do, and that is what's it's all about. I might not saying this clearly here. It was a profound idea. I'm involved on a women skier's forum and discussion about what makes one a real skier gets into a lot of insecurity, ambivalence, and self-judgement. But it can be as simple as "I ski, ergo I am".

When he says that Pilates 'had fifty people', is he referring to instructors or clients. Is he said that Pilates only had fifty clients? That isn't enough to earn a living, is it?

He was referring to clients. John writes more about the finances of Pilates in his book Caged Lion.
