I am a fan of slower movements. I had vhs tapes of Yoga Zone atleast 25 years ago. When the quicker yoga classes began becoming popular I could not get on board. Yoga Zone makes so much more sense to me. The instructor Alan would always say "the work is whilst you hold it" imo is so true you can feel your muscles slowly stretching. Those tapes are long gone but luckily KZbin to the rescue. Now pilates has entered the picture. I love both. Trying to incorporate both into my week along with my rebounder. At 60 I have zero aches or pains. I can play with my 5 yr old twin grandsons without thinking "I hope I don't hurt something" lol Slow & steady wins the race♡

I find (different) value in Yoga and Pilates, and while there is over lap, at essence I find them to be quite different. For example look at the origin/history of each or simply the typical names for the recalling a Yoga Asana/posture or a Pilates exercise: Tree, Mountain, Cobra, Sun Salutation, Corpse, Warrior ... Rolling like a ball, Leg circles, Scissors, Saw, Bicycle. I am most familiar with yoga and as a preparation for meditation as well as it's emphasis on prana and chakra energy centers e.g. pranayama and kundalini. When I studied yoga in India most of our sessions were outdoors by the ocean, or in the forest and many online classes seem to more often than not embrace this connectedness with nature; I'm far less familiar with Pilates offerings. At 79 I am again drawn to Pilates with goal of strengthening and exploring core and I expect this will be well addressed with Pilates. I did a mat class about 15 years ago and loved it because I often felt "stupid." The beginners class had me using muscle combinations in unfamiliar ways and showed me some of my habit sets as well as habitual holding patterns that both express and reinforce ego (self identity). The opportunity for new awareness and opening was both challenging and exhilarating. (I actually explored this more deeply and subtly with Feldenkrais and love it it for the subtle awareness experiments often with minimal actual physical movement. For me each offering has a range for which one's intentions/goals/aspirations/explorations are most likely and easily supported. Being clear on what one is after helps choose wisely what might be better. Sometimes to be properly nourished a spoon, a fork, or a knife is most suitable ... Final thought: What does each discipline suggest as a better way to practice? What emphasis is there are the outer physical form? On the inner attitude and intention? What is the emphasis and relationship to awareness of the spine and nervous system and to breathing (as Beth noted Yoga most typically has breathing in and out of nostrils; Pilate in nose; out mouth; and vagus nerve teaching suggests that this'd have quite different influence on vagal tone).

I love this workout, but what about you? Truthfully I moved with this class a few times to really get comfortable with the exercises and transitions. So if you find yourself exploring a lot of new, but overall found it enjoyable, come back to the class a few times and you'll get even more benefits of the class. Let me know, what was your favorite exercise with the band?
@YogiBethC10 күн бұрын
It worked better for me to just hold the band rather than to anchor under my pelvis.

These beginners' workouts are a perfect introduction. Plus, if you don't have much time but want to get a little exercise in this is a great start to the day.

As long as you kept up that lifting the body from the floor against the wall , I hate to say it, but I don't see how that can be a beginner thing for that length of time. I'm getting cramps in my legs and had to stop before you did because of it. I like that you show the exercises, but I also think for a beginner exercise, you should do a bit more explaining of the terms you use. Thanks for the video, though, as it at l east gives me an idea of what exercises I can do this way.

I am so glad I found your channel. I suffer from lupus, and it causes widespread debilitating pain throughout as well as several life-threatening complications such as brain aneurysm, blood clots, spinal, bleed, permanent nerve damage, causing permanent muscle loss and so on. All of that has completely stopped me From paddle boarding, surfing and weightlifting. Five years ago, I was in the best shape of my life, now I struggle to stand up or walk upstairs. I’ve lost all my muscle mass I trained years to achieve, I can no longer compete in SUP racing I absolutely love to do and even worse I can no longer work in the career field, I busted my butt to achieve. I’m now completely disabled and I hate it. I hate my body, I hate walking into a gym and trying to do anything because I feel more disabled than ever and completely embarrassed because I need assistance to do anything, today was the first time I was able to do most of the work out myself and I feel so accomplished I’m literally in tears typing this. You have no idea what this means to me. Thank you so much. I’ll be doing this work out over and over until I can do it all on my own without pausing to get in position lol.. I can’t wait to see your other work outs. I’ll absolutely be sharing this page with my doctor and friends suffering with the same issues I do. You’re a special person thank you so much. ❤ **** Btw I apologize for my grammar. I’m a little choked up so I’m not thinking straight, but I wanted to let you know how I feel right now in the moment…
