I want to thank you for this video. I have been on the Pilates journey, coming from yoga. I have hip imbalance with excellent range of motion of the left side, poor ROM on the right. I find the roll up immensely challenging. Thank you for breaking it down with so many helpful variations so I can target this appropriately ❤

Thank you, Sara, for providing the best explanation I’ve seen so far on how to progress towards a roll-up! I love that you discuss proper breathing , how to identify your sticking point and provide a variety of progressions for different levels of ab strength. The half roll-up and isometric are the right place for me to start, and the next step will be using the yoga strap. No matter what, I’m going to keep hugging that beach ball ;)

It’s probably egotistical of me, but part of me thinks, “Oh wow, Sara saw my post and made this video just for me!” Regardless of the real reason I am gonna play with these movements. Thanks!

Wow!! I’m going to start doing the Pilates 1/2 roll ups/ Isetric holds/ and with the straps! Cause this was my problems during my contemporary ballet classes. I couldn’t contract my abs and back even if my teacher forces it already. When my teacher forces my back to arch forward, the next few days it hurts so much that it was traumatizing 😅

What work for me is the hold and using bands.

I do have a question though, regarding breathing during isometric half roll ups. What does breath look like during the holds? Do you hold the breath as well and then scoop with the exhale, similar to a box breath? Or does the breath continue and you just come up on the exhale portion?
