Me thinks you need to look up classic lore. There’s lore, it just isn’t spoon fed to you. It was up to the players to read the quest text, read the books you come across, read item descriptions. It was a community effort to discover the story. Aside from that, there was lore that you could see from previous Warcraft games that carried on to WoW.

BFA is more balanced and more of an esport than than classic. But who the fuck wants wow to be an esport. Classic has actual classes that do different things. It has loot that doesn't get made invalid by the next raid tier to stop 1%er guilds insta clearing everything with gear from prior content. It doesn't have daily chores only 1%ers can be fucked with to make them feel special. It's just an RPG you play online with other people where decisions are made for creativity and lore reasons and not for 'fun detected' game balance.

If only they could reconcile the things that make Retail good with the things that make Classic good. But that would require Blizz to not be part of a money-grubbing opportunist company that thinks they've got fun down to a goddamn science when what they actually have down to a science is how much they can maximize engagement before you burn out and play something else.
