PILBARA'S HIDDEN GEM - RED DOG TRAIL- MURUJUGA NATIONAL PARK SUNSETS - BBQ AND BEERS, WE LOVE IT.

THIS WEEK ON DNA.
WE KICK OFF THE DAY AND HEAD NORTHWEST 20KM FROM KARRATHA.
TO THE COASTLY TOWN OF DAMPIER, IT IS HERE THAT WE EXPERIANCE ALL THAT THE TOWN HAS TO OFFER.
FROM THE FAMOUS PILBARA WANDERER - RED DOG.
IT IS A SELF QUIDED TOUR WHICH YOU CAN WALK OR DRIVE.
THE TRAIL ALLOWS YOU TO SEE THE ADVANTAGE POINTS AROUND DAMPIER.
YOU START AT THE LOOKOUT THAT LOOKS OVER THE HARBOUR WHERE YOU CAN SEE EAST INTERCOURSE ISLAND.
THIS IS WHRE DAMPIER SALT AND RIO TINTO EXPORT THE SALT AND IRON ORE FROM.
THERE IS PLENTY OF INFORMATION UP HERE TO READ.
IT IS OVERLOOKING THE PRISTINE WATERS OF THE HARBOUR.
AS YOU DRIVE DOWN THE HILL TOWARDS THE OVAL AT HAMPTON HARBOUR, THERE IS AN AMAZING PLAYGROUND FOR FAMILY'S WITH GREEN GRASS, PALM TREES AND FREE BBQ'S ALL OVERLOOKING THE HARBOUR.
WE CONTINUE ALONG ON THE RED DOG TRAIL TO OUR NEXT SPOT, THE FORESHORE BEACH, WHERE THERE USED TO BE A SHARK CAGE TO PROTECT THE SWIMMERS.
I TALK ABOUT THE HOW I USED TO WORK AS A STEVEDORE, THE MASSIVE SIZE OF THESE SHIPS THAT COME IN TO DROP OFF CARGO AND TAKE AWAY SCRAP METAL WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.
THERE IS A TRANSIT CARAVAN PARK IN DAMPIER IT IS A 72HR STAY RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE HARBOUR.
WE DRIVE AROUND A BIT MORE TO THE VIEWING PLATFORM FOR THE TRAINS THAT COME IN FROM ALL OVER THE PILBARA WHICH BRINGS IN THE IRON ORE.
MAN, THIS IS IMPRESSIVE THEY ARE SO MASSIVE.
AFTER THIS WE BACK TRACK TO THE COURSEWAY THAT LINKS KARRATHA TO DAMPIER RIGHT OPPOSITE THE AIRPORT FOR THE REGION.
HERE WE WALK UP THE STEPS TO THE VEIWING PLATFORM FOR DAMPIER SALT.
HERE YOU CAN READ THE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW THEY MINE THE SALT HERE IN THE PILBARA THIS IS A BIG THING HERE IN THE PILBARA.
IF YOU EVER GO TO THE BEACH TO HAVE A SWIM YOU WILL KNOW HOW SALTY THE WATER IS HERE.
THAT IS WHY THEY MINE IT.
WE CATCH A PLANE AS IT FLIES OVER HEAD TO LAND AT KARRATHA AIRPORT.
WE MOVE ALONG TO SEE ALL THE ART THAT HAS BEEN PLACED ON THE SALT PANS FOR PEOPLE TO SEE AS THEY DRIVE ALONG THE COURSEWAY TO DAMPIER.
AFTER THIS WE MOVE ONTO THE BURRUP AND THE MASSIVE GAS PLANT AND ITS TOWERS THAT HOLD THE FLAMES THAT YOU CAN SEE FROM KARRATHA AND RIGHT OUT TO SEA OFF DAMPIER.
THEY HAVE A HEAP OF ROAD WORKS GOING ON AROUND THE BURRUP.
THEY ARE ALSO BUILDING A NEW GAS TRAIN - PLUTO 2.
FROM HERE WE MAKE OUR WAY TO HEARSON'S COVE BUT BEFORE WE GET THERE, WE STOP OFF AT MURUJUGA NATIONAL PARK WE TAKE OUR TIME TO WALK BACK THROUGH TIME AND VIEW ALL THE ANCIENT ROCK CARVINGS THAT IS 40,000 YEARS OLD.
THIS IS A VERY EASY WALK AND CAN BE DO IF YOU ARE IN A WHEELCHAIR TOO.
TAKE YOUR TIME TO LOOK FOR THE ART ON THE ROCKS.
THERE IS A TON OF INFO ON THE SIGNS AS YOU WALK ALONG THE PATH.
TAKE YOUR TIME TO READ THEM.
AFTER HERE IT IS JUST A SHORT 2KM DRIVE TO HEARSON'S COVE.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SPOT, YOU CAN SEE THE STAIRWAY TO THE MOON FROM THIS LOCATION AND IT IS WELL WORTH IT !
WE PULL UP RIGHT NEXT NEXT TO THE SHADE HUT THERE IS FREE BBQ'S AND ALSO PICNIC TABLES .
THERE ARE QUIET A FEW OF THESE SPREADS OUT ALOND THE BEACH, THERE ARE ALSO TOILETS HERE TOO.
TAKE YOUR TIME TO DRIVE AROUND THE THE EDGE TO SEE THE MASSIVE ROCK PILES THAT ARE NATURAL NOT PUT THERE IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.
YOU WOULD THINK THEY WERE PLACED THERE - BUT THEY AREN'T!
WE HAVE A COOK UP AND WAIT FOR PEOPLE TO TURN UP FOR A MEET AND GREET
WELL, THE MEET AND GREET WAS GREAT THE FILMING STOPPED AND WE HAD GREAT CHATS WITH ALL THE PEOPLE WHO TOOK THE EFFORT TO COME AND MEET US.
IT WAS A GREAT TO CHAT TO EVERYONE.
SO, IT GOT DARK SO WE HEADED BACK TO THE VAN.
THE NEXT DAY WE DROVE BACK TO HEARSON'S COVE TO FINISH OFF OUR EPISODE.
I GOT THE DRONE OUT, WE HAD A FEW MORE BEERS AND NIK CAUGHT CRABS. LOL
SO - JUST SAYING - KARRATHA ISN'T JUST A TOWN TO STOP AT TO GET YOUR FIX OF KFC AND TOP UP YOUR WATER AND GROCERIES.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING WE LOVE IT HERE!
SO, TAKE YOUR TIME TO HAVE A LOOK AROUND!
YOU WILL BE AMAZED ON WHAT IT HAS TO OFFER.
SO, GRAB A BEER OR A COFFEE OR WHAT EVER YOU DRINK SIT BACK AND SEE WHAT WE GET UP TO!

My drone did the same thing about Max height and Max distance I had to reregister with dji then it was ok to fly to 400ft hight This may help good luck with it Been around Red dog and the ports wow things are so big it's is truly amazing Happy trails

Hi Dave great videos can you give a little info regarding caravan parks you are staying in around Karratha and on you trip, i am hoping to do a lot of free camping when can i am doing a trip starting in December this year.

We aren't staying in a caravan park we are at friends place parked up down the side of their place. There is 3 caravan parks in Karratha 2 are in town and one in the LIA There isn't free camps as such in tourist season you have to pay like Cleaverville that was in our video 2 weeks ago. There is another spot called 40 mile further out of town south bound same deal you can book these through the visitor centre in Karratha. There is the transit park in Dampier and the 2 caravan parks in Point Samson. Cleaverville and 40 mile you can stay free from the 1st October till April I think but only for 3 days then you have to leave and can't come back for 28 days mist free camps are like this in off season. But if you are up here in summer I wouldn't stay out at those places way too hot the Min at night in peak summer is around 32dec and 42dec in the day you'll need aircon for that time of year. Best to ring the caravan parks I. Karratha because I think there is a off season rate. You can look on wikicamps for a rough idea on prices too. Hope that helps. Cheers Dave and Nik 👍🍻🇦🇺🍩
