Sadly on the long term it will fail , if any component is made of rubber /plastic or has a seal that is heterogenous. The St Graal is to have a Silicium based seal.

The edge seal design is an inorganic glass frit in Pilkington Spacia™. As such, this doesn’t break down like an organic IGU seal when exposed to sunlight, humidity, and temperature. No seal lasts forever, but the science says this glass/glass seal has the potential to last much longer than typical insulated units.

Has this become as cost efficient as double glazing? Seems like it could be better and more cost efficient than triple glazing though...

A vacuum insulated product cannot be produced at same costs as double or triple IGU’s. However the big advantages of Pilkington Spacia™ compared to IGU’s is the low thickness that can be installed in case IGU is not possible to fit in a frame or if Ug value of a triple is required but space and weight being an issue Pilkington Super Spacia™ might be a good fit. Additionally Pilkington Spacia™ products compared to IGU’s are much lower in weight and have better sound protection properties.

How much is it lighter and does the slimmer section reduce the db rating?

The Db is worse for certain. The reduction of decibels is impacted by the sound wave passing trough different objects.

Though I agree in general, I like innovation. But this one isn’t enough and isn’t the solution.
