That's just an hour away from where I live; they have hiking trails there. For those who are not old enough to know, Pilot Mountain is Mount Pilot in the Andy of Mayberry show. The neighboring town is Mount Airy (Mayberry).

I like the airport there (KMWK). Stopped there for fuel. Lady at the FBO was friendly.

Yeah. It's a landmark near Winston-Salem here in NC. Very unique look to it. Like a miniature devils tower.

Yes. Acording to the state park website: "The Saura people knew the mountain as Jomeokee meaning Great Guide or Pilot."
