Fantastic. Mine sat for several years, 3 out of 4 with ink drying up, but the rubber appears to be still like new, and it's great to know taking them apart doesn't quickly over-wear them. One thing I might do for mods is use teflon tape on any applicable threads where I'm afraid of a leak.

I’ve not used Teflon tape before but silicone grease works well.

Very useful information! Funny that the O-ring stayed in place in your Opus 88 demonstrator when you removed the nib unit--mine always comes out with the nib unit and goes flying into the nearest dust bunny on the floor.

Thanks for this video. By watching how you took it apart, I realized that I don't need the flat plastic nib cleaner that I lost. I was looking for a replacement but didn't want to risk using a piece of plastic that is too thick. Looks like taking it apart makes cleaning so much easier and one can do a better cleaning.

What a great resource you’ve provided… thank you! I have several Moonman and an Opus with parallel nibs and I can confirm the Opus is a dream 🥰 and one of my 5 Moonman pens didn’t work either. I ended up not needing the ‘mod’ I just crammed the nib in so it’s deep in there and it’s good to go. I keep them at home stored upright. If they heat up (outside in the sun) it’s a disaster. 🤪
@InkyRocks3 жыл бұрын
hahaha! I can so imagine the disaster! So far, the Opus and PenBBS seem to be the only "travel" hacked pens for me. I feel pretty comfortable hauling them around. One of my other experiments kind of exploded on me. I cracked the collar by pushing in the nib so much and I had a bit of a mess..."Home, stored upright" is probably the rule to follow for most of these. Thanks!

For the Moonman M2 flow hack, I did this: took an empty Pilot ink cartridge, drilled a 1/16" hole through the end, then cut off the last 1/4" or so (a little past the "shoulder" on the end of the cartridge). I inserted the stalk of the Parallels feed into the cartridge, then pushed it in, so it seals and ink only comes in through the hole drilled in the end.
@InkyRocks3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your hack! Do you not use the fins of the feed, or did I miss something there? How does it write? Do you feel confident enough to carry around the pen this way (like to your office or something--basically take it out of the house?)
@ewilderj3 жыл бұрын
@@InkyRocks I should probably take a picture! I didn't alter the parallels feed, just made a "hat" for it from the empty cartridge that helped regulate the flow. I'd feel confident I think in toting this around, but I have noticed some of my Moonman are a snugger fit than others.

Absolutely. If your fountain pen is a cartridge converter pen, you can use a cartridge. I’d say most modern pens are CC. If it’s a piston or any other type, you can’t. Glad you found this useful!
@InkyRocks Жыл бұрын
I forgot to add, you need to be aware of what kind of cartridge you have and if it’s the tyoe for your pen. Many are what’s called “universal”, and each company may have pens that use only their own company’s cartridge.

One of these days, I ought to try and put in permanent ink in my green 3.8. ^^ I just use a Pilot Cartridge for capacity since it does take a while to drain (when using multiple pens at once which I do all the time XD). For a longer color transition, I keep the feed unwashed of the previous ink inside it and rinse and dry the cartridge peg so I don't taint or dilute the next ink in the cartridge.

@InkyRocks3 жыл бұрын
You absolutely need to use your Emeraude in the Parallel! Because you can completely take it apart so easily, I just use one of those little brushes they sell in kitchen stores to brush out any stubborn glitter (like to clean out parts of a teapot, or even those brushes to clean out straws). The 6.0 is not so useful to me as I generally use A5 and I can't write many words, so I have been actively trying to mess it up and I can't! I've used iron gall ink, all kinds of water proof ink and even glass pen glitter inks. That thing is indestructible! My only caution is that as soon as it clogs up (I've never had it clog up!) clean it right away, and of course, don't use ink with shellac in it (like the calligraphy inks)

I guess I need to just dive in to understand why the pen would function any differently if, say, I just threw away the cartridge and filled the whole, stock stem with ink. Your tutorials are showing ink will flow differently for some reason, if it's not confined to going down that narrow, middle tube, whereas I'd assumed it would just stop at the o-ring except what goes down the narrow middle tube.
@InkyRocks2 жыл бұрын
The pen works fine eyedroppering the barrel. Where you have problems with way too much ink is if you put the nib unit in another pen’s section and it’s not a good fit, ink runs down the outsides of the fins and just dumps onto the paper. In the Pilot parallel itself, it’s own section fits well and you don’t have that problem.

New Parallel Pens sizes? OOH! ....Not available in the UK. :-/
@InkyRocks3 жыл бұрын
If the other ones are available, I'm thinking it will eventually be available. It was several months before anyone else got them after Japan did--so hopefully eventually?

@@InkyRocks I asked Pilot on Twitter and FB if they were going to sell them in the UK, not had a response yet

Ok now I have to get the parallels….I’ve been avoiding them for years! Lol!

Oh no! You definitely need to get some hahaha! I use my 1.5 for regular cursive writing. I can use any kind of ink in it. It's pretty indestructible!

My friends will have to be satisfied with handwritten fountain pen letters. I’m just not willing to hose down all my possessions in ink spatter. That’s for the professionals lol

New subscriber here. Apparently, your subliminal message worked. Great content. I have been wanting to try one of those nibs together with some highlighter fp ink.

hahaha! success! I've been wanting to try the highlighter ink too, but I really don't highlight stuff anymore.

"... and of course a dremel". Of course. I've never had a Parallel because my handwriting isn't compatible with stubs, but that curved looks interesting. By the way, what's that dusty purple ink in the PenBBS?
@InkyRocks3 жыл бұрын
Actually that curved pen ended up being more fun that I thought! I think I'd like to take a class on using it (art or otherwise). It's Kingdom Note's Eggplant

The real question is, the hell is TAG edonezumi?!
@InkyRocks3 жыл бұрын
hahaha! I finally got the corrected subtitles in, and the auto translate didn't understand it either! TAG Stationery is a pretty popular ink/pen/stationery store here in Japan. "Edo Nezumi" is the name of the ink. It means Tokyo (Edo is the old name for Tokyo) and mouse or rat.
@pail.crimea3 жыл бұрын
@@InkyRocks No no, I'm pretty aware of the Kyo no oto lineup, I just don't remember this particular name. Didn't notice any shimmer in the vid, but I'm assuming it's one of those 3 from tsutaya collab?
@InkyRocks3 жыл бұрын
@@pail.crimea no, this is an old special edition and has no shimmer. The snowflake has shimmer and that was what I had in the teacup saucer--it's from Tono and Lims.

You are so brave!!! It’s neat to see what a little altering can do! Once you use a demonstrator, it’s hard to use a pen where you have to open and check how much ink is in it. 😁

these fountain pen people are crazy, yo im not made of money i spent £40 for 4 of them and like £10 a pen is way to much to begin with and you got people out here moddifying them no thanks i think im happy with the OG, as you can tell im not a fanatic because realistically unless youre a full time caligrapher youll use them a couple of times then theyll gather dust in your art cupboard, thier fun to use dont get me wrong but you can just as easily buy a set of 6 caligraphy fountain pens with flat nibs for under £10 with the same result, and then make those better by buying some extra size nibs for £5, i use my £15 caligraphy set more than these expensive gimmick and those are like £1.80 per pen and you get every line variation under the sun, great fun, but after a while you start to think about your wallet, caligraphy ink and other branded inks arent cheap, and these pens burn though ink like you wouldnt believe, you end up paying more for this with the amount of ink you end up buying just to keep the cycle going, this is what people dont tell you, the upkeep of constatly keeping these pens filled is expensive, if you want to try it id say get them of amazon give them a go, and then return them and buy a proper caligraphy set which is cheaper and more pratical.

i use my parallel nibs n feeds in Moonman/ MaJohn C3 pen bodies. i just pop mine into the section, no nib collar. great fit. Recently CreepyNibs did a cool hack with the C3 but modified and used the nib collar with it. C3 is only about 18 dollars on ebay right now. ❤️🔥👑🥳 Awesome video!! That PenBBS hack blew my mind!
