Preparing for two big aviation trips, what happens behind the scenes when I'm not filming flying stories for my other channel? Let me know what you think about my new filming idea later in this video, and hope you're enjoying the new vlog style content on this channel. Thanks for watching!

I think if a video has a good contrast of cinematic and raw footage it creates some awesome content. I think too much of either can sometimes feel either like a movie or feel rushed. But no matter what your style is enjoyable to watch

The cinematic quality of your videos has grown fantastically over the years as you have experimented with new techniques and styles. The occasional raw footage is always entertaining but it is clear you have great skill in producing high-quality videos (and your subscriber numbers on your main channel reflect that) and we would not want to miss that.

Thank you for this! I’m always fascinated by the ways people mount cameras safely on planes. I saw a video where someone casually mentioned that he’d only had a couple GoPros “fall off” and it was…concerning.

Raw/up to date videos can be just as good if not better than highly polished stuff. You should post your travel dates so us fellow Aus aviators can tag along to some remote places we otherwise wouldn't go to on our own! As a new aircraft owner I'm keen to explore within my limits!

Generally I find my audience doesn't watch and like my longer flight videos nearly as much as shorter, snappy edit videos, or informational videos. And no one cares about scenery! You could be flying over the most beautiful wonderland with mountains made of dandelions, and no one cares. But have a near miss with another plane, or a bad landing, and they are all over it...

I like both style of videos. I find polished videos to be entertaining, but raw videos to be educational. I've learned a lot from watching other pilots fly, and seeing everything without a bunch of cuts has been incredibly helpful while working towards my license.

Give it a spin, Stefan as sometimes the most unexpected & beautiful surprises result in life when we dare to be different. I was in Romania on holidays & tried a dessert called Papanași which turned out to be one of the most unexpectedly, awesome desserts I've ever tried in my entire life. Balance it up with both raw & polished, be daring, take out that "Sportscar" like in Risky Business as thousands of years from now when archaeologists will be digging us all up, they will never ever know. Above all, always be brand "you" & do your very best as that's all I want. God bless you Stefan & all your family & loved ones

i like/love both type of videos. I think the raw format is more suited for a niche audience, those being fans/followers and the few who really enjoy the raw type. For growing on yt, in my opinion, the more polished format (with a comedic/personal twists such as Tom Scott, or what u do all ready) is the best way to reach a broader audience and grow. I would love to see either format, and I personally wouldn't prefer one over the other. All though.... faster edits/uploads does sound very appealing....

I like polished stuff as it enables one to get the highlights of something in a short amount of time. The aspiring aviator in me loves all the raw stuff, too. Getting to see all the nitty-gritty details without the polish is really helpful.

So, not New Zealand, so it must be Tasmania ... 🤣 Single camera sounds like a good idea. I might consider taking your other cameras so if you feel like filling out some stuff later, you've got the footage (or if the main camera packs in). Personally, I'd just enjoy the journey, if it's like you're last few out back adventures, it'll be fun!

I do love a bit of both as the cinematic flying combined with the highlights in your trips are awesome but, as a student pilot, I love to hear the things you say over the radio, the chit chat between aircraft and the flight planning that goes on as well. So my recommendation is maybe make a video dedicated to the fancy stuff towards the end of your trip sort of wrapping it all up but keep the raw stuff for the rest of it. Thanks for helping me keep on learning (and of course, staying curious ;)

I like a nice, slow cinematic video, but nice fast paced raw clogging type videos are great, and being able to mix it together I think makes for a great video. Also, thanks for all the inspiration from your flying Stef. I recently got my RPL in WA, and your videos really inspired me to keep flying and have a goal in sight, of being able to explore our great country. Keep up the great work!

The raw footage viewpoint allows for better depiction of actual efforts/events transpiring before, during, after flight. For me (not sure for others), my GA flying doesn't just happen. I don't drive to the airport, jump in the airplane (prepped by others) & fly off. Point being is that the process is all-inclusive, good, bad & ugly. BTW-I very much enjoy the process. That said, the reward comes from the dedication & effort exerted. I think raw viewpoint will allow that to be seen.

Personally I prefer the really crafted, multi-cam stuff - but then again, I work in film and tend to prefer the higher production value stuff in general, even if it means waiting longer for content to come out. All that said, there's a lot of workflow stuff that can make producing that kind of content much quicker and easier (like Premiere Pro's multicamera sequences) and timecode syncing your cameras (although I don't know if that's actually possible with Go Pro's these days, and it's definitely a big investment if it is possible).

My guess for the first trip is Dili or Indonesia? And for the second trip, I really liked the production style or the wrigley-murphy trip, which I guess is a little harder for you to produce with all those great shots.

[Insert ¿por qué no los dos? 🤷‍♂️ meme here] I think there's a place for both raw and polished. Quick and raw as you experience things; longer-form and polished when you finish the adventure and have had time to internally process and collate the story.

I could see a two camera setup working well for that. Put your 360 camera that's normally on the wing (I assume its 360?) on the cockpit mount to capture both outside and inside views simultaneously, and then have a second one that you can more easily use for the more vlogging style of shot.

Glad I'm not the only one to just wander by the airport to see if anybody is around or if anything interesting is happening. My usual excuse to taxi the plane, even if I'm not flying, is to go to the FBO to buy 100LL. We've had amazing weather the last few weeks and it's starting to crowd my financial comfort level. This doesn't happen very often. 🙂 My videos are a single camera looking out the front of the plane plus ATC audio. I have neither the talent nor the inclination to do anything fancier. You're better at than I am anyway. Ditto folks like Josh Flowers and Steve Thorne.

Re: video types - I reckon a mix of both would be ideal. Maybe land on a (rough) schedule / time pattern for when you bring out raw vs polished vids, or have differentiation in the thumbnails or titles, so people know whether to expect raw or polished when they click?

Nice aerial footage of the Citilink part of the freeway, apart from it was out of context with your driving direction and position when mixing with your in-car video of you on the Monash and near Moorabbin. So. Keep it raw. If you have too much content you end up ‘shoe horning’ it in just because you have it!
