Well done! Clear how static and dynamic stability are related. One thing however: positive static stability does not mean that an aircraft will be virtually impossible to stall (@ 1:55). The mix-up may be because of tail surface volume (contributing to static stability) may be not sufficient to reach maximum angle of attack. For this to explain you would have to incorporate the effect of center of gravity position.

When you say in your videos... "I hope that makes sense", I always answer in my mind: "Oh man, you do make a lot of sense" One of my current instructors was one of your students and he suggested me to follow your channel and it was one of the best advices I got so far. Your videos are always so clear and straight forward. I dream of becoming a flight instructor myself in the future and I hope I will sound half as convincing and self-confident as you do. Thanks a lot and keep up the great work!

what is 'relaxed' static stability?
@PilotEd5 жыл бұрын
its when the static stability goes on holiday XD
@PabloGonzalez-hv3td5 жыл бұрын
It's a euphemism and common name for negative static stability there's a common misconception (even among experienced airmen) that only "fighter jets" have negative static stability and that simply isn't true the MD-11, B777 even some gliders have a degree of inherent negative static stability they are _harder_ to fly without stability augmentation not impossible (fighter jets are "more unstable" they are impossible) in fact the very first aircraft to be aerodynamically unstable is the the very first aircraft the _Wright Flyer_ . Most people think I'm nuts when I tell them aerodynamically unstable airliners exist (and that the MAX isn't one of them) so I'll let Boeing explain the MD-11 and 777 www.boeing.com/commercial/aeromagazine/aero_02/textonly/fo01txt.html

the only thing I'd like to add for you is that lateral and directional stability are connected each other, one get influenced by the other. Longitudinal stability is not.

Actually when the real part of the eigenvalue of a motion mode is negative, the mode is stable. I it is positive, the mode is unstable.

I tried explaining to my flight instructors when asked about stability that neutral and negative static stability do not ever go on to the side of dynamic unless they have positive stack stability first and they said I was wrong can you explain why they said I'm wrong?
