The journey lasts 16 hours and 20 minutes and crosses 10 time zones, four pilots are on board, as well as 15 cabin crew, who serve 1,100 hot drinks, 2,000 cold drinks and 1,036 meals to passengers.

IMO, they laughed for a different reason - they reminded the control of their current altitude, but were given VERY small increase approval + the controller also made a correction. They were, I suppose, very close to their max weights, very warm and humid weather - not the best condition to expect high climb rate for any plane, not just A340-300/

Enjoyed crew exchange and joyful banter. It was alluded too, that they didn't appear to take checklist's seriously. I disagree completely. They seemed to cover everything, with confirmation call backs. Nevertheless, they certainly didn't adhere to the Sterile Cockpit protocol and I suspect many don't, especially as seasoned or experienced Flightcrew, as they seem to be. My only questionable observation is the release of the First Officer's Safety Harness, quite soon after they departed the runway. I would think the concern, especially with him being in command of the Flight, would be unexpected turbulence. The weather wasn't exactly ideal and it wouldn't be a pretty sight, seeing him bounce about the cockpit, had something occurred.

@francoistombe4 жыл бұрын
@@wilsjane I presume you reference the Gimli glider. The fuel guages were not working because of a faulty circuit board. This was in the early 80s and Canada was still transitioning to all metric. The 767 was new and they didn't have spares. Fuel was requested in kilograms but loaded in pounds so it only received half the fuel needed. It didn't crash, it glided to a no longer used airport. The front wheel didn't lock so it put it's nose on the ground. It was flown out days later and remained in service with Air Canada for another 26 years.
