Pimax 8KX FoV test potato, small & conclusion

Because some of you ask me kindly, if I could made a video with potato & small FoV.
So, the crystal has a slightly bigger FoV than potato, but in my opinion, the FoV feels bigger cause of the edge-to-edge clarity. My recommendation, try it by yourself and if you have some kind of FoV fetish, wait for the Somnium, 12K or maybe the bigger FoV lenses.

How does the 8KX image clarity compare to the crystal if you supersample it to match the rendered resolution of the Crystal at 100% ? (Potato mode)

Danke für den Hinweis, werde ich probieren. Die 8KX scheint überhaupt etwas zu haben was das Micro angeht. Die Crystal hat ein wesentlich besseres Micro.

@@liebesmaennchen Ja den Qualitätsunterschied was das Mikro angeht hört man zwischen den beiden Brillen. Allgemein ist es aber einfach zu leise 😉

Thanks for the comparison with the other modes too. i hadn't played for 20 days and so yesterday i switched 8kx straight back on in potato mode. for simracing. Honestly the first few minutes i could play, almost convinced myself that i could accept the fov of the cristal. but then i put the mode large. eh oh my god. i felt like i was breathing and before i was suffering from claustrophobia. Unfortunately I realised that I couldn't accept the small fov. so wait for 12k

I know that feeling switching from psvr2 to 8kx. Right now I have that problem with the crystal, as soon as I turn on the crystal I'm thinking "ok Reini, you never can go back from that visual clarity" next week I'm having a meeting with Pimax, maybe I can get some new info's about wide FoV lenses or even 12k.

Vielen Dank für den Vergleich. Fov ist halt so wie ich befürchtet habe. Wahrscheinlich werde ich auch eher die crystal nehmen. Aber trotzdem heftig dass das vfov fast 20 grad kleiner ist als von pimax versprochen. Bevor ich die crystal bestellt habe fragte ich pimax ob das fov vergleichbar mir small oder potato ist. Da wurde mir geantwortet similar to small…außerdem fragte ich ob die Brille auch den 9dof mode hat, da hieß es auch ja. Was nun auch nicht stimmt. Ist halt schon ne Frechheit wie die einen anlügen. Wie auch bei den Lieferterminen. Ursprünglich hat es mal gehiesen 12kx ab Dezember 2022😅

Das mit den Versprechen ist natürlich ärgerlich, ich bin jedoch auch aus meinem Job und Hobbys nichts anderes gewohnt. Alles Versprechen und das nächste Woche und dann 4 Monate das Telefon nicht abheben 🤣

Die sagen auch, die Crystal wiegt unter 845 Gramm und dann sind es 1160. Selbst ohne Linsen und Akku kommt man nicht auf 845 g und ist schon Bauernfängerei diese Werte.

Ich glaube es ist wie bei vielen Firmen, die linke Hand weiß nicht was die rechte Hand macht. Da gibt es ein wunderbares MEME, wo ein paar Menschen am Tisch sitzen und einem Hund wird die Schnauze zugehalten. Der Hund ist der Developer und die am Tisch sind Marketing und Kunde :D

​@@liebesmaennchen Nee, die wissen schon was sie da machen. Ein 1160 Gramm schweres Headset mit FOV um die 100° verkauft sich halt schlechter als die falschen 845 Gramm mit 125/140° FOV. Ne US-Firma würde das wohl eher nicht machen, weil dann Sammelklagen drohen...

Yeah, I'd assume the edge to edge clarity would definitely make it feel like the FoV is bigger, or, at the very least, more immersive. With the industry practically following Meta, and the obsession with pancake lenses, I'm really glad Pimax made a modular headset with glass aspheric lenses. If nothing else, Pimax always seems to be trying to push for more. Granted, with all the accessories, it'll be even more expensive, but one gotta have realistic expectations.

Yes, I agree. Pimax is one funny company and it never gets old. At least they are trying something new. If the LH Module and wide FoV Lenses will be available, this could be a huge step in the right direction.

@@liebesmaennchen If nothing else, they're at least trying different things. I'm quite curious regarding the wigig module, though I assume it can't be used with the LH module. Wider FoV lenses are definitely something I'll be keeping an eye on.

Thank you so much for doing this test. As an 8KX owner, that uses "normal" FOV setting for being able to see cars next to me without needing to turn my head too much while sim racing, I was also really wanting to know the answer to this question too (like the other guy), so was thrilled to see you had already responded with a video to answer exactly that. Awesome work! 😁👍 But now the only problem is, knowing the results to not be that great haha. Even lower than I expected actually. At least on paper, it appears this disappointing anyway. But as you say, wearing the device is another thing entirely, due to e2e clarity. So, although I doubt I will get an opportunity to test one in Australia, as I'm not near one of the Pimax experience locations, if I do get a chance one day, I definitely will! But for now, I think I'm just going to be stubborn and stick to my 8KX until Pimax release the 12K in 2028 (joking... hopefully lol). Thanks again and keep up the great work! 🙂

I agree, the FoV from the 8KX is amazing, crystal can´t compete with that. But, maybe Pimax will release some new lenses, I would instantly buy these and will give them a try. In my opinion, the smaller 42ppd Lenses are not good, maybe if you are into high end Visualization like architecture and stuff.

@@liebesmaennchen yeah, I’m very much looking forward to more info on those wide FOV lenses too. From what I’ve heard, it sounds like it still probably wouldn’t be enough to swing me, as I think 120deg horizontal is the minimum compromise I’d accept, and it’s sounding like it’ll be more like 110-115deg. Anyway, we’ll see how they end up turning out and would look forward to that video if you receive them. 😊
