How good is clarity around the corners? I recently tried a Quest 3 and the lenses are super clear all the way to the edge. But downside is no displayport connection, so you use quite a bit of sharpnes. Looking for an alternative and wondering if the crystal light could be it.

Perfect clarity on the headset I’m testing. The pixelation in the video is quad views. Not noticeable with the headset on.

From what you have tried, what would you say the biggest advantage of the Pimax Light is over the Quest 3?

Personally, I really liked the Q3 for many reasons it just didn’t fit my face which caused a lot of light leakage and was physically uncomfortable. If it did fit I would have kept it even if the visuals weren’t as good. The Q3 does 72hz really well, better than the Crystal.

Which GPUs are people running with here? i'm on a 3090 OC 24GB. I still struggle to get the sweet spot. I also achieved better peripheral/edge to edge clarity with OpenPimax etc than the latest PimaxPlay. They are working on giving us the fine tuning tools in the open code though, so only a matter of time.

I still have the OG Crystal..works like a charm..can't wait for DFR to really kick in..and mature..I Have spoken to Pimax about The Quality Control on the lenses..as I took had to return my OG 2 times until I got a Good set of lenses...try not to blame Pimax so much as the lense company they use are not or may not be checking them...

I still have my OG. Love it. Pimax sent me this unit to test. Pimax like any company aren’t perfect but at least they’re trying to be and over time they’ll get even better.

Well, I own the Crystal for nearly 2 years now and I have to admit that it is a truly sharp and very clear headset....waiting for the wfov lenses and the wireless module....

Everytime I move my head in the crystal light, I see black at the side of my view like it still has to load in? Also do I need any other software other than pimaxplay to make my FPS better? (For example openXR)

Good question. Simple answer is no but I found better performance when using pimaxxr instead of Pimax open xr. Honestly, I had some weird tracking issues that I couldn’t fix and am sending it back. I’ll address this soon in the most respectful way possible

What are your settings on Pimax Play? I got the Pimax Crystal Light just the other day and I found that 90hz Upscale (Lab) gets blurry for me around the center of each lens. I gotta move whatever I'm looking at dead center to make it clear. Also objects in the distance are blurry. I tried 72hz and it was just clear. Maybe the devs need to work on that 90Hz upscale option?

In this video I used the 90hz upscale. It was clear but something seems off. Admittedly I’ve done very little in the way of actual testing but will be doing so over the next week. I’m going to test 90hz without upscale and I’m also going to test an old version of Pimax play because for some reason the new version appears to have a performance degradation on my system. Stay tuned.

@@hybridsimrig yea 90hz without the upscale looks way clearer. It’s probably going to be my permanent choice for now until they sort out the upscaled option. I guess I’m not the only one who thought that something was off with the 90hz upscale

To be fair, I haven’t had a chance to really dive deep but will be later this week. I’m also going to try running the crystal light using the same Pimax play version as the OG and use PimaxXR runtime because there is a clear difference between versions with regards to performance when it comes to the OG, curious to see if I get similar results with the light.

Probably just my shaky hand while recording. It’s very hard to record a clear image through the lens. The headset though so far is very good. My Crystal OG is flawless. Some more tests to come 👍

I got my crystal light on Friday, the motion blur is from the headset which is annoying. Thinking of returning it because of the blur and slight lag when turning head left and right with capped fps in AMS2 and DCS at 60 withouht any spikes in frame time.

We tried the light but Can't find a sweet spot in my case. Every video shows an excellent and sharp view, but no one says anything about the sweet spot. When moving the lenses for IPD adjustments we get eyefish picture.. This is annoying, I was really specting to get one for myself.

I own the Crystal which has the exact same lens as the PCL. If there is a sweet spot I don’t notice it. The G2 on the other hand…

I tried the light and yeah a slim better than the Q.Pro resolution wise but the lenses... Once you get used to pancake there's no turning back Especially since meta unfuck themself and allowed the 900mbit/s encode rate for Nvidia 40xx series

I really would like to try the light, but when i got quest2 recently, all reviewers were like "its really good" but i found it unuseable, its equal clarity as 720p, would glich out constantly, couldnt read guages, was garbage, especially coming from a 42" 4k oled. Since this is a price teir up, dont want another exspensive paper weight

Try it risk free for 15 days. Not happy then send it back! Don’t forget KZbinrs (big ones) are paid to say the things they say. I’ve don’t volunteer work for Pimax in the past but I’ll say straight up if I’m not happy with something. Actually I’m currently comparing this to my crystal og and so far my OG is beating it for a number of reasons.

I had the crystal for about 8 months and it worked really well except for the pass-through. The pass-through was very low resolution and in black/white.

Yeah I’m not a fan of the pass through either but at least it’s a step in the right direction. Quest 3 and Pro both have really good pass through but not nearly as good resolution in game. Guess they have to compromise somewhere.

Honestly I’m having tracking issues with the Crystal Light and performance in general isn’t as good as my Crystal OG. Crystal Light lenses are way better than Quest 3 but the Quest 3 was a lot easier to run. 72hz on the Quest 3 actually looks really good.

@@bublik_vr yes it's confusing. newer versions allow you to use pimax's own openxr runtime whereas older versions required pimax xr runtime. even Pimax themselves acknowledge a difference

Personally, I think that if you’re happy with the Q3 then stick with it. If it wasn’t so uncomfortable for me I would have kept that over the Crystal. It’s cheap and it’s easy to run 👍

To me, the biggest jump needed, is larger fov. Sure, a sharp image is very nice, but the sharpness of my HP Reverb is good enough for me. Now if it only had a bigger fov...

Yeah I agree. I was happy with the FOV in modern vr headsets until I bought the g9 57”. Now, I can’t go back to VR for competitive iRacing as I lose way too much information for a fixed head position if that makes sense.

It’s extremely difficult to capture a through the lens video and the pixelation you see around the edge is quad views running. In hindsight I should have disabled that for the recording but didn’t. It’s not visible with the headset on. Image clarity is identical to the Crystal OG

i had one i thought the clarity was the same as the crest 3 i sent it back it was like a toy from the eighties don't no why people say its good yet so many have serious issues maybe i need a better gpu im using 4070 but hated the head set it is like having a brick squeezed up into your face

Not very real showoff. Do you sit like that close up all the time in your flight.... All VR headset are that clear all close up and the more distance you have to objects, the more blury.... Guess just not a good showw how it actually look in a normal possition...

Respectfully no. I’ve owned the reverb and it’s incomparable. KZbin compression is at work here, plus it’s VERY hard to record this whilst doing the headset justice.

@ trust me when I say that Pimax are very aware of unhappy customers in relation to stock levels. They got very big very quick and weren’t prepared for it. I have friends who still can’t get their hands on the 15mm face mask. I’m still waiting on Big FOV lenses! Let’s hope that things continue to improve.

Having owned the PCL for 3 months I can say definitively that in reality the image is SO much better than your camera shows. Those images are awful. I'm not a fanboy, just saying it as I experience it. Its got major downsides also. I had to send mine back because the lens housing broke and I will say the unit is VERY plasticky and you can see where corners have been cut. If you are looking to get a sense of what you'll see just know its not 4K but closer to looking at a 1440p screen which in VR at that price point is easily the best value you'll find.

Apologies for the image quality. It’s really, really hard to record a clear image without using filters etc. Was your return handled to your liking? I’m not a fanboy of anything, I use what I believe is the best for the task, but I can say that although Pimax isn’t perfect, behind the scenes they are doing a lot to improve and they do read these kind of comments. What headset are you using now?
