Hey Ed, I'm just writing you a note to thank you. I built a quickly designed koi pond to fill a large pre-existing hole in my back yard in New Orleans, Louisiana back when I bought my home 20 years ago. Two months ago all my koi unfortunately died but I used the time to redesign and rebuild a new and improved pond. The old one was just a round hole with a sloped side and the liner was just held in place with flagstones. I never liked the noticeable liner folds or the noticeable liner edge all along under the stones and above the water line. I searched online for 'how to build a koi pond" and your KZbin videos popped up. I spent all my free time watching all your videos to make sure I did the redesign job right. I redug the hole deeper with 2 defined depths (and not a gradual slope) and ordered a new liner (and fleece this time) and new filtration system. You inspired me to create a back wall inner circular wall to be a full length mortared brick wall installed over the liner (with an underdug retaining support and plenty liner scaps padding between). The entire perimeter was upgraded by notching out a line for a row of mortared in bricks over the upper edge of the liner and I also mortared in all the edging flagstones for a much more finished look (including an overflow valve and conduit for cords). All the bricks and flag stones came from my property but I did buy riverstones to cover the floor of the upper shelf. I just added all the koi last week (decided to have butterfly koi this time) and it all looks amazing and is now a center point for the yard (with an added gong sculpture behind it). The whole process took three weeks of grueling work in New Orleans summer heat but I lost weight and got a great tan. I took pics of all the steps so if you would like to see how great it turned out (especially the back wall), I would be happy to send them to you. My email is craigtroxclair0208@gmail.com - I truly appreciate finding you on KZbin and want to thank you for sharing your expertise.

Good idea with the cables, but I wonder why not feed them through before you buried the conduit, then any mistake would be easier to rectify 🤔

Hi Patrick, thanks for watching and commenting. I could indeed pre feed cables though conduit before burial, ensuring no issues. However it’s important to me to know that cables can be easily fed through the conduits once they’ve been buried or routed through the pond edging-if not it defeats the object of having conduits in the first place as I want to ensure that future removal/adding of flex is possible without having to dig up the conduits again! Best regards, Ed

I love these videos and have been motivated to remodel ("pimp") my old pond using a lot of the techniques shared. The work is on-going and it's a lot more physical that I remember! Thanks so much for the interesting content and ideas.

Hi there, thanks for watching and commenting! Working mostly alone (apart from Dave now and again!) I’m limited to how many big jobs I can take on in a year-generally two or three a year amongst all my other servicing and cleaning work is all I can manage sadly. Best, Ed
