There is a guy on KZbin, I forgot the channel because I watched the video back in like 2018. He found a van that was on PMR. It was junked in a yard. He bought it, and found some of the stuff had been removed from the show prior to the owner taking it back. However, some of the electronics were left in the back. He took it and did the repairs. I believe he also says that the original owners van was in such bad state, they didn’t touch and found a different van to use for the show. Anyway, he restored it to how it was in the show, then gifted it to a friend who had multiple kids all on video. lol good watch too

The main problem with Pimp My Ride UK (aside from Westwood being cancelled) is that in the UK, cars can’t get that bad - they have to pass a test every year to prove they’re roadworthy. Most episodes were just a car that looked a bit uncool

If a car is over a certain age, it becomes exempt to road tax and MOT.... simply due to the vehicles never having been designed to pass the test, even when new - though many owners have the test anyway, for safety's sake. Random facts about this car, its last MOT was in 2008, not that it needed one as it was over 40 years old even back in 2008. It is SORN which means it's not currently on the road even though it is except from road tax. Last recorded milage was 14,170. Last V5 was issued in 2011 so it likely fell into disrepair (if it at all could ever be considered repaired) fairly quickly after the show.

There's a UK episode where they have a set of airplane seats flown over from America, I laughed so hard seeing the packaging as they are made in the UK (factory is just up the road from me), Westwood made a crazy fuss about having them flown over.

As far as the American show, I’ve seen a couple of the cars like 1020 years later whatever it may be when the updates were recorded and they definitely still had the electronics. Maybe that could be another episode updates

Watching them do all that to a genuine 60's Morris Miner made me cringe so hard. Unlike regular vehicles, cars with the "Classic" designation APPRECIATE in value instead of depreciating as they get older, but only if you keep them original They could have done the minimum restoration and gotten about 6 or 7 grand for it back in the 2000s

Yeah it physically hurt. My dad has had so many classic cars (he enjoys restoring them for fun) and we have a morris miner atm. It's just a fundamental misunderstanding of how you treat a classic car.

My parents recently took their original marriage car, a 1985 Volkswagen Jetta with over a million miles, to an extremely thorough shop to restore it to nearly showroom quality. That cost about 15,000 dollars. They could do that to any of these, and then add 2k of mods to make a lovely car. But they never do.

I actually met a PIMPEE who got an Ice Cream truck pimped out, with TVs outside the vehicle (if my memory serves), I asked where they where he said he used them at home, IDK how true that was, or if he was the original person but it was cool seen that in person, for sure got a laugh out of it.

In UK you can check any vehicle based on the registration plates. This car had last MOT (yearly check-up) in 2008. It failed, which means it's no longer on the road. On the page it says that the car colour is white, though, so maybe it was reregistered, or the pimped-out car is different, and they've scrapped the white one
