An extremely well executed version of the kata. But I say version, because there are things performed, little added moves to the blocks for example, that do not make sense to make. It's kinda hard to explain in comment form. If I had my Sensei to demonstrate, I'm sure it would make more sense.

I would argue that most katas even vary from Dojo to Dojo. But the "essence " of the movements are there in most. This one is very close to our Shorin Ryu Pinan Godan.

With all the various and sundry interpretations of katas in all their many incarnations across a century or more, who presumed to be the all knowing to decree that stylized efforts such as this are now the holy grail of execution. Why should any ryu-ha who trains them be obliged to bow to it?? Why is karate, particularly Okinawan karate, permitting the tail to wag the dog??. Where's the gain, and for whom??
