Since starting to watch "just get it done " on u tube I am starting to both shop my stash and declutter as I don't have a sewing room and quilt on the table in our tiny dining room so have to pack everything away at meal times.

I was never a fabric hoarder until our local store closed. I got a good deal on my “display model” janome. When I went to pick it up, she had a 30 gallon trash bag full of fabric for $25. How could I walk away. Now, I have all of this fabric that I can’t imagine wasting. While watching you, I remember a young mom who is learning to sew. She and her husband were both in the military and very frugal. I think I’ll make a gift pack of fabric for her. Thanks for the inspiration.

Up until 3 months ago, I worked in the fabric department of Hobby Lobby. I bought a LOT seasonal fabric when it first arrived, because if you don't, it may not be there later. That was my excuse for buying it! Also, about 2-3 years ago, they had a HUGE clearance sale, and I bought a yard each of over 50 different fabrics! In all, I had over 17 totes of fabric! Last summer I finally forced myself to go through it all and I took a ton of fabric to church, where several ladies had a blast going through all of it. I plan on going through my stash again, because it felt good, seeing the ladies' excitement! 🥰

Oh my gosh! Today was a giggle-fest! Thank you! I lost most of my sewing skills 20 years ago... after a brain injury. But I did keep trying ( failing!!!). Recently, I started going through and doing small projects ( the super hot pad was a huge hit with my daughters by the way!). I have saved bits of fabric from YEARS! Daisy Kingdom, from their outlet sale at least 30 years ago! Upholstery fabric from the Mart in Atlanta... 25 yrs ago! Rebuilding skills and finding success with these memory makers has been joyful. I have ordered from Spoonflower and Shabby Fabrics online. Nice weight and finish on quilting fabrics i have selected. As for winter, i live in Ohio and consider snow days my sew days. When spring arrives and all through summer and fall my days are filled with tending gardens, yardwork and preserving food for winter. That food reserve allows me to sew to my hearts content all winter without having to grocery shop. Enjoyed todays content.

I remember your last video, and I've followed that advice. I took my adult son's former three-drawer dresser and put my fabric in much as you have yours. Then I made project bins. I love thrifting fabric! I have a couple smaller church thrift stores near me that have great fabric sections. I also use sturdy cotton sheets to make rag rugs and thrift stores are great for that.

Oh my gosh the winter… I think we feel the same way about it 😂. Here in the uk we don’t normally have a lot of snow but when we do…. We shut down 😅😅😅. I just cleaned out my sewing area . I was given a horn of America cabinet /table . Never heard of it before but really love it ....Thats why I needed to clean out space ... I gave away half finished projects and old fashioned fabrics on the buy nothing FB group also a quilting group ... its amazing how happy people are to have your old fabrics and even unfinished projects... Fabric stash now under control . NO GUILT ! Yay ! I am so upset Joannes are claiming bankruptcy again. I live in CT . Our store is very well kept . It is finally well stocked again . I have two Joann stores that I can go to one is actually in my neighborhood and it’s still very clean store still has a lot of options But I buy my fabric from the guys in Las Vegas they have online fabric sales Tuesdays and Thursdays I mean Tuesdays and Saturdays sorry 4 PM Pacific time called Sew Yeah Quilting Tuesdays it’s $11.75 a yard and then on Saturday it’s seven dollars Yard with five dollars shipping for US They have a ton of variety and they have online website as well as a sale room they think those fabrics are six dollars a yard

And I do choose to shop at a local shop the problem with local shops they close at 4 and 5 p.m. and I work a fulltime job so it really isn't convenient except for Saturdays and that's the day I like to dedicate to sewing. It is a problem that I don't mind. I usually make it work.

I went to pueblo, co today, hobby lobby all 40% off and got my medium to mix with acrylic paint to I can paint on fabric for my bags and such, went to joanns and found some fabric for binding for my rag quilt, had a fun day, however Hubby was bummed he didn't get to go!

I'm in the UK and over 50miles from my nearest quilting fabric shop but find these online suppliers really good. Midsomer Quilting, The Cotton Patch, Bramble Patch and Doughtys in Hereford. The Cotton Patch will send out small patches of the fabrics for you to color match (small charge) and will often go and match for you if you are missing a fabric from a range.

Sudden realization you live near me as you mentioned Austin's Sewing Center. I wish you'd included links or addresses for places you mentioned. I've got a Joann's a mile or so from my house that is decent, I do a lot of garment sewing so the quilting shops don't quite work for what I want since I'm not specifically wanting cotton. I wish there were more shops for garment fabrics.

There are two Walmarts in my town. Both have a craft section, one having yardage. I get my backings of solid fabrics (Waverly Inspirations) from the yardage Walmart sometimes. The trouble is, the department isn't manned and it takes a while for someone to come over to cut. If I plan ahead, I prefer to order online. Over a few months I collected fat quarters of their solid Waverly Inspirations colors, so I know what to expect if I order online. The fabric feels sturdy and I make mostly charity quilts for children, so the low price point is a good choice when I don't want to spend much money.

Spotlight in Australia is the Joannes equivalent here. So expensive now some things are 3 times more expensive than Lincraft (other smaller competitor) which has nothing much anymore. Lincraft was amazing 20 years ago.

Fabric Pop is a really great place to shop. It’s a curated collection of the most adorable fabric. The owner has a great eye. I also order from Fat Quarter Shop and from Shabby Fabrics, both of which have their own kits, which is very convenient.

I follow a couple local auctioneers, primarily, on hibid. One of them had a linen closet full of queen and king sheets. Looking at the furniture, I made an assumption. I ended up with nearly 100 yards of lovely, usable cotton, plus I don't remember how many yards of pillowcase width. All for $45! I will never have to buy white fabric again! Score! I did order some Dr Seuss fabric that was on deep discount from Hancock's of Paducah this week. It's for a particular quilt. And I order some Liberty that was on sale because...well...it's beautiful.

I am a scrappy quilter so I am fine with buying my fabric at thrift stores. I have a large Amish made oak case with dividers that I bought on Marketplace and I keep my small fabrics in bundles by colors in my cubbies. I can look over there from where I am sitting and can see I need more yellows. When I buy yardage it is at an Amish quilt store. I especially like Lori Holt. A lot of my quilts are made of vintage fabric, especially feed sacks. I am 70 and when we downsized in retirement we moved and I sold all my plastic tubs. Everything in my house is pared down and fits in drawers and closets. I store nothing lol. Even my Christmas decor fits in two sweater boxes in my bedroom closet! I am not going to be one of THOSE old people.

I have bought 1 pound bags of scrap fabric and mystery bags of fabric from Fabric Addiction 1 on Etsy. Her scrap fabric are width of fabric that are usually two or more inches wide. The mystery bags have pre-cuts and sometimes she adds a quilt pattern. I feel her prices are very reasonable.

I hate frickin' winter, too! SC girl, here. Snow is good for when you stay home and eat soup for two days! I have found quilting and crafting a great stress reducer and have a large collection of materials and materials. In light of so many people losing their homes in our country due to disasters, I was struck with how hard it must be for crafters who are experiencing the trauma without a means of crafting due to loss of materials/equipment. I have found a nonprofit organization in one of the rural communities of West NC which is eager to get crafting materials to the people affected by the storm. I am in the midst of a major purge in order to deliver craft materials to those who have suffered such immense loss. Maybe we could share our abundance by donating craft packs to other areas that are reeling from disasters.

I resonate so much with what you are saying in this video! I LOVE fabric, but I DO NOT stash fabric for a variety of reasons: 1) Fabric is expensive (I usually only purchase fabric from quilt shops--including Etsy) and I do not have tons of extra money to spend on fabric I may never use; 2) I do not have a lot of space in which I can store fabric because I detest clutter and I refuse to create clutter, even if it is fabric; 3) Fabric can go out of style and just because I love that fabric today does not mean I am going to love it a couple of years. So, I use all the fabrics I purchase. I have a rule for myself: I ONLY buy fabric for specific projects. I never buy it just because I think it's pretty. Also, I have a chest of drawers in my sewing room. It has 5 drawers. Each drawer holds all the fabrics and notions I will need for at least one quilt. Right not, that chest is full because I have all the fabrics and notions on hand that I will need to make and complete seven quilts. So, because my chest of drawers is full, and I have no place to put new fabric, I have no desire to go out and buy more. This philosophy helps me to continue to love quilting without feeling overwhelmed or broke in the process.

I started off only purchasing Fabric when I had a plan for it then I got hooked on the online sale with Sew Yeah Quilting from Las Vegas But I have stopped purchasing Fabric for that very same reason you mentioned And yes I actually do have some fabric in the closet in the guest bathroom but very little. It’s actually fabric to make clothes not quilts If any of you can’t bring yourself to throw out some fabric make a quilt top and a quilt back for charity. And maybe just stick a flannel sheet in between or batting scraps Sew Yeah Quilting does an Alaska drive every year where they actually send hundreds of quilts up to the areas of Alaska that are so remote They won’t care if the quilt top and the quilt are made out of fabric scraps

Hi! I do go to Hobby Lobby but Joann’s has been a great option for extra variety of fabrics. Now I keep hearing that they can go out of business on us in a couple of months. I am praying they don’t! Cuz the other fabric store around here is super super spendy! Anyone else will miss them like me?

I recently bought from Scribbly Gum Co and although they're in AUS and I'm on Canada it was a easy process and the prices weren't too bad. They have really nice pre-made bundles

I rarely have a plan when I buy fabric. But, I make my own patterns and I make a lot of improv quilts. So...I try to make sure I have ALL of the colors (except for browns because I don't really like brown) 😂

I like to follow Karen from Just Get It Done Quilts when she hosts a Declutter Event every January. People post their before photos on Facebook. It’s years and years of buying more than they use. The happiness of the purchase ends as soon as we put the fabric in our stash unless we make something with it. I feel like it’s the same people who complain about waste and a throw away society. I had to clean out my mother in laws hoard of a house twice. So much waste. I feel so strongly about buying responsibly. I don’t ever want to go through that again. 😂

I would like to recommend Crafty Gemini for garment fabric and tutorials. They have a small online business and she makes tutorials. She makes quilts, bags and all sorts of things, but I feel like she’s more focused on clothing.
