So how does buffering kill them. I’m confused on what steps I need to take to kill my southern pine beetle.

You don’t really kill them the forest pest management Manual is online page 17. They are in low numbers with only a few “spot” outbreaks. Cut and burn Cut and leave Cut and spray Those are the options you have but a good forest management will also help manage and prevent them so thinning when tree canopies become crowded, prescribed burn usually twice a year, and vegetation control.
