During my recent stay in Poland, my husband and I were camping near a river by a forest. I scouted the area looking for ideal locations for my cameras. I really struggled to find good spots for the trail cams, however I did come across plenty of evidence of both Beavers and Otters. I really wanted to capture Beavers on film. For a week I had 3 cameras out in different areas, moving them regularly, and only captured a very short clip of an Otter.
By the last night I had almost given up hope of filming the Beavers. I went out in a thunderstorm to move the cameras, this was my last chance.
The last camera to be put out was strapped to a little tree stump, not really secure and could have easily been stolen. I set it up between two small ponds that looked to have an animal trail between them and walked away hoping that my camera would still be there in the morning and it would have footage of Beavers for me.
The next day on collecting the first 2 cameras I was feeling a bit disheartened, I'd got nothing! Not even a mouse! The third camera had about a dozen recordings on it though.....YES!!!!
The trail camera had captured an Otter, Beavers and 3 Pine Marten Kits playing. It took a week to do it but I had finally captured a Beaver on film and not only that but Pine Martens too, both firsts for me and amazing to see. The risk with the camera position paid off.
The Beaver may have eluded the trail cameras all week until the last night, but it didn't elude us. We had seen it ourselves the night before and on the last night it swam right past us as we sat by the river.....that however is another story
