Advice: If you are going in the winter, check the weather forecast. The roads can be dangerous when icy. Chains will be required as soon as you get off Interstate 5 if there has been a heavy snowfall. Also, if you book a short term rental in winter, the higher up the mountain, the longer you will wait for roads to be plowed.
Verizon and its affiliates seem to be the only reliable phone service in the area. If you are going on a "workation", check to see if the place you are staying has decent wifi and phone service.
Fill up your tank as soon as you get off the Interstate. Don't count on the PMC station to be open. You might also do your grocery shopping in Frazier Park, since the PMC general store has slim selections.
There are no open fires in PMC. You must never leave food or anything smelly outdoors or in your car, so as not to attract bears--not even baby wipes or air freshener. And, a reminder wherever you go: don't feed the wildlife.

Yes, there is a camping area somewhat near town, with hiking trails shooting off from it. It's not huge, maybe 10-20 sites?

The gas station is ALWAYS open but never attended. You just pay at the pump and go. No cash, of course.

Yes, I guess I overstated. My daughter told me the same thing. However, I went twice to use it and the pumps were closed. I guess there was a temporary problem with the pumps when I tried. Thanks for watching and sharing your comment. Cheers!

This place feels crazy in the winter, having grew up in LA county (near the beach) it was interesting to have been snowed in and not able to leave. My cousin has a cabin there.

Yes, chains and 4-wheel drive are recommended in the winter. Also, the higher up the mountain you are, the later the roads get plowed. If you are planning to stay in a short-term rental, I advise staying closer to town where the roads get plowed quicker. Good point and thanks for sharing!

It's a nice getaway as you said. But most people wouldn't be able to live there. No schools for your kids, no jobs, no grocery stores, etc.

I'm not informed about the school system. It's a good place for retired folks, though, and for vacation getaways.

There is a school for tk-8 grade in PMC and a high-school near the freeway. :)

@@ashleyb3969 I wasn't aware of that. I just heard of the great number of people home schooling in the area. Even Frazier Park has a lot of homeschooling. And I think that's basically where the High School is.
