I am a member of the Charlotte Symphonic Band in Charlotte, Michigan and we played all four movements for the Smoky Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinberg, Tennessee in 2008. Our band got first place in class We were entered in the highest level for all High School Bands! It was a great piece and I think your band sounds very good!

Lovely!!!! We played this for contest one year whenever I was in High School, I was a freshman and played either 1st or 2nd Clarinet and that was "fun".

What a fantastic performance. A very high standard. well done..

@jowmozart Thank you for that. I finally found the answer on my own - the reason I couldn't identify it is because that melody accompanies the vocal melody as a "backdrop" - what an inspired choice to include here.

I got to play this amazing suite as a high school junior in all-state band 44 years ago, under the baton of the amazing Frederick Fennell. This brings it all back (though I am pretty certain we were not this proficient:-)!

This is such great playing. we are playing this piece for our high school band and I could only hope that we sound like that. good thing i'm only playing the third clarinet part

Love this piece. I played it on oboe for contest and it was so much fun. That was our best contest year; our march was Easter Monday on the White House Lawn and our ballad was October by Eric Whitacre. If you haven't heard those two pieces, you should look them me up because they're great too.

GREAT JOB. I love this song. I had the pleasure of playing both Eb and Solo Bb Clarinet on this piece. One of the few pieces out there that has a written Eb Clarinet solo (in the 2nd movement). For the clarinets, great job at number 8 -- Solo and 1st Clarinets know the part I'm talking about :)

For all you guys who love this music, know that all of it came from the 13 G&S operas, like Pirates of Penzance, Mikado, HMS Pinfore, Trial by Jury, and so many more. Check them out!

@seejay1001 The tune at 2:20 is from the first number of "The Gondoliers" (or The King of Barataria). It happens right after "List and Learn" - features several choral soil, right before the Marco and Giuseppi enter. Title is "Good 'morrow pretty maids"

For those 16th note runs in the beginning you can play it by just holding down the 4th valve and press 1+2 every other note.

I love this song to death. I played Solo Clarinet on this piece and that part is NON-STOP through the 1st Mvt. (Opening Number) and the Finale. Those runs and passages are a great workout though. Builds dexterity and technique........

Euphoniums! Did you know that you can play a good part of those 16th note runs at the beginning of the first movement with only two fingerings? You alternate 4 (starting on the C) with 124 (starting on the D) in the 5th through 7th bars, and wherever possible thereafter. This will speed you up immensely.

this song for some reason didn't give a good first impression to me, but it's absolutely fun to play and sing the parts. i also like in the finale how it gets faster and drives to the end. i wish we play this song.

I'm familiar with many tunes of G&S, but I can't place the one starting at 2:20. Thing is, I HAVE heard it, so it's driving me crazy, but in a delightful way. I'm enjoying remembering something I'd forgotten. Does anyone know what it is?
