Growing pineapple is a pretty easy thing to do in the tropics. Pretty much all you have to do is throw a keiki out into the yard and it will grow.
But to make it thrive?
That's a whole other story.

I live in Alberta, Canada. I started growing a pineapple in my sunroom, off my kitchen 3 years ago. In March of this year, my plant started to put out a flower. 6 month later, I ate a slice of very tasty pineapple fruit. I had a very sunny window but it wasn’t overly hot in the sunroom.

Great information, I live in Hawaii in a dry climate. I planted a pineapple top from a small pineapple I got from a neighbors garden last August. I followed your directions but put it in a pot. It flowered in December and is almost ready to pick. It's bigger than the ones I've been buying at the store and it has 4 keiki's and 1 slip. Can't wait to plant the keiki's and slip. I've been soaking the bottom portion of my pineapple top after letting it dry out. The brown nubs have a gel forming now, so I'm hoping the roots form soon. It's been almost a week. I had to take the plant from the sunny window because the cats kept knocking it over to get the water (they were too lazy to walk upstairs to their bowl 😅). Great video. I live in California and can't wait to plant, but I probably should've done this several months back 🤔. Aloha!

Did that end of 2020 they flowered about nov dec of 2021 and there just getting bigger and bigger. Plants are 3x3x3. So 3 ft tall 3 ft wide 6 in diameter. So…a slip is a regrowth of the plant after it’s harvested. Pups, suckers, cakies grow on the bottom of the plant. All replantable. Slips regrow fruit the fastest. I twist the plant off bush and twist of the crown from the fruit. An excellent video, thanks.

Wonderful video. I live in NC and bought 2 pineapples with tops to try this! Question if you don't mind. I may bring this inside during cold winter, when risk of freezing temps here, or can I just cover the plants outside with a frost blanket? Wondering if you know. If I bring in inside to sunlit door during the winter, do I need to provide supplemental growing light and for how many hours per day does this plant need light to grow. Thanks big thumbs up on video! We only have a very few nights here where temps fall into the 20's, most days in the winter our temp is above freezing and very rarely snow here in coastal SE plain of NC.

I have friends that grow it in a greenhouse in similar conditions to yours. Probably would have to be brought in on the coldest winter days. Maybe a cold frame could help?

This was an awesome video, thank you! I have a couple of questions: will I get a bigger pineapple the bigger of a pot I use or will it be a small one no matter what because it's in a pot? Also, what kind of knife are you using? Would love a good harvesting knife recommendation. Lastly, big thanks for the info about it feeding through the leaves. Now I want a compendium of plant names and how/where they feed from!
@HomesteadinHawaii

You just need a pot big enough to hold a fruiting plant without falling over all the time. The pineapple primarily eats through its leaves

Technically it will fruit again, it’s like a new branch that is growing off the old one, except vigor increases if you divide

Mine took over three years. From flower to fruit was 5 months. I’m in Kansas, so the timing to ripen the little pineapple( a little bigger than a grapefruit) was perfect as our summer was very hot. It requires patience for sure. I started it from the top of a fruit brought to us by friends who vacationed in Hawaii. It was fun to do!!!!

I'm from the Caribbean and I've been growing pineapples for the past 12yrs.and for me it's not a wise idea to pull the spare plant or the sucker off the older tree it grows much faster and bares a bigger fruit.Allow the spare plant to brake off on its own.

Going to give it a try from a cold climate. thanks for the great video. I have never tried before so this may sound stupid but why was it not better just to leave the slip on the plant thats already rooted? Does it grow slower than waiting for the slip to sprout its own roots?
@HomesteadinHawaii

Sometimes it helps to reinvigorate that plant by separating the slip, but not necessary for a few years
