I work on this type of equipment quite often and I would say you did an excellent job Ivan. Common sense will carry you a long way. The most common failure I find is the oil pressure switch followed by the alternator, bad grounds and an occasional bad box.

I once had the exact same problem, traced it back to the alternator. I full-fielded the alternator, it worked, but something was still wrong. They don't monitor the 12 volts dc but the AC from the alternator to determine that the engine is actually running. I've seen the same technique on automobiles to since if the engine is running, to shut the fuel pump off in case of a crash. Replacing the alternator solved the problem. I didn't finish your video nor the comments, so I assume you came to the same conclusion. I'm working on an S-40 right now, boom travels up very slow, doesn't go all the way up, I'm told that it is slow in going down too. The owner insists that it has sufficient hydraulic fluid. He doesn't have another other complaints, says all else works ok. I haven't started on the job yet, was looking for hints. Thanks for sharing the video, helps us all out - Jim

Great video! I used to be a field tech in the equipment rental business, saw this problem many times, half the time the belt was broke. Those deutzs are air cooled and the alt. belt turns the cooling fan. They're wired up like that so that if it does brake it won't cook the engine. Thanks for the great videos, keep up the good work!

You just get a like for the Diesel, i work 99% on Diesel and seeing diag aproaches on a start stall is pretty cool... but then you said eurotrash.... about a deutz..... But also tell your neighbour that he is missing a panel that is over the injection valves area left of the alternator, with this on the air from the fan (around the alternator) gets directed over the engine block and helps to keep it cool. This engine has no water cooling and is only cooled by the oil and air.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics7 жыл бұрын
Oh please don't take that too seriously! It was just a joke. I have much more respect for this machine than any of the modern Audi/VW/Mercedes/BMW etc. that are just not built to last anymore, and cost a fortune to repair. That metal panel we removed just to get to the back of the alternator to do the wiring checks. Interesting that this engine is air and oil cooled, I did not know that. I really appreciate the honest feedback :)

ivan welcome to the world of genie. a lot of one off missfit crap cobbled together. not suprising at all that alternator is different. a lot of times when you get a part you get a kit to make the new part work or fit. always call them to order parts have the serial number and any numbers on the part you are replacing redily available. dont just order from the internet. those things have safety systems for the safety systems. then you have boom and ground controls. always check both . it may work one way not the other. also always check the level sensor bubble.if its off some things wont work or are working at a reduced rate. would love to see you troubleshoot a rotate circuit with the pico. you had the diesel. i pulled my hair out on a gas/lpg with the ford engine. good job though

To be fair it was dampened to a very high degree which is why I said oh boy when you said you going to check it's voltage with the pico. But then you run into a newly found waveform on the alternator and never do get around to seeing what battery voltage actually is/was/were. Still a very nice capture of the defective device - I would have been going around in circles on the oil pressure switch with LED 10 dropping out seconds before the engine was shutting down. And that's 'normal' behavior = me slid into the ditch for sure. I'm still there in fact, anybody got a tow rope?
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics7 жыл бұрын
Look close at 22:45. I do get a good system voltage reading of 13.75V! Sorry if I kind of glossed over that too quickly :)

No apology need Ivan, I'm clearly the one that was distracted at that time frame by lord only knows what. Completely missed it, sorry to bother you with it. And thinking about LED 10 issue further, it's clearly mislabeled - it should say oil idiot light instead and then it's behavior makes sense to me. I was thinking there was actually intelligence involved. Lipstick on the pig with a fancy dress (official looking LED break out box with new fangled up name) and I didn't know who I was even dancing with. All good now, thanks Ivan. You sure have a gift for this and I love watching the twists and turns develop on these oddball cases. You also have a knack for finding oddball cases. :)

@@ramdodgetruck1177 Alternators are actually three phase generators. The three phase voltage goes through a full wave rectifier, which ends up supplying the 12 volts DC. Those old bi-metal strip type voltmeters were pretty useless.

why don't you call the out fit were he rented the thing, no one is to work on them but the rental outfit.
@snoopdogie1877 жыл бұрын
I don't think he said it was rented. When you live in more of a rural area random people have different machines than you normally see else where. The owner could use this to maintain trees on his property, or clean gutters, or whatever else and its much easier than a ladder.

The construction company actually owned this unit.

The rental companies sell them when they get to be 5 years old. There is a reason for that.

I'm saying it's a low oil pressure condition which shuts the ignition down. I was wrong, as it happens. Win some, lose some. Sometimes you can't even get out of the game.

я подумал про прикуриватель когда ты заподозрил генератор..по идее если генератор то при подсоединеном прикуривателе с машины эта штука должна работать....
@andreasmaltcke1177 жыл бұрын
Should work, any signal with an amplitude of more than 9-10V will be suitable for tachometer. Maybe even less than 9 volts, I do not know this specific driver, but at the input are systems with high tolerance for input voltage fluctuations.

Я тоже так сначала подумал, но он всё равно не хотел работать. Всё потому что главное - это сигнал от генератора, а не напряжение :)
@aleksandrzinkevics12537 жыл бұрын
