Nice ending, Ivan! It's not your first radio causing a parasitic draw. The unexpected steering problem was almost no parts required. When you test drove and started pushing it, I was looking at the fuel gauge and wondered if you had enough to get back to the shop 🙂 Overall, a very interesting set of videos, following you sorting through that mixed bag of problems.

For the non mechanics out there, if you are wondering why Ivan turned the steering wheel back and fourth, that bleeds the power steering, will get all the air out of the system. Every time you do something to the power steering system where you drain the fluid, after repairs and adding new fluid,you do this to bleed the system. Ivan is so amazing to watch, I watch a lot and he has to be the best. South main can not be left out, he s also great.

So often on these parasitic draws, including many I've found myself, it's quite often the factory radio unit causing the draw. I wonder why it is that these things always have issues with parasitic draw. It is one device that has a constant memory feed wire, but you'd think these manufacturers could make a better factory head unit.
@kevin9c1
@kevin9c1 2 ай бұрын
In almost all cases these head units are made by suppliers, like Denso. I guess that doesn't remove the accountability to the automaker but wanted to make the point that Subaru engineers don't design radio schematics and make PCB component choices.

Old cars… fix one problem, then another surfaces. Sometimes even on cars not neglected. Seals get hard, plastic gets brittle and cracks… VAG uses lots of plastics that seem predisposed to fail shortly after warranty expires. Probably most other manufacturers to. It had some real pinging/detonation issues for about 10,000 miles and eventually I bullied him into buying NGKs for it. When i pulled the autolites out the gap had opened up from about .040” to .060” in that short amount of time. Quality doesn’t cost, it pays.

Hello Ivan, not sure if you're aware of the Subaru PS bleed procedure but on these Subby's when you fill up the PS you DO NOT start the car up, with the wheels in the air you VEEERY SLOOOWLY turn the wheel left to right lock to lock and you'll see the system bleed the air out. Obviously, you can start it up and do it the way you did, however by doing it that way you're introducing aerated oil back to the pump and it becomes a dog chasing its tail situation. By turning the steering wheel with the engine OFF you'll get nearly all the air out and then you can start it no probs. Also, that model Subby suffered from the supply hose going rock hard which also causes aeration as well. The coil issue makes me laugh! How can people fit aftermarket rubbish to their cars, then major problems arise, and they don't think to themselves, ghee these coils must be at fault...It wasn't doing it before I fitted this rubbish, it MUST BE the coils, then they send it to mechanics like us who spend WAAAY too much time fixing their mistakes... Also, what ended up happening with the rad/hvac console? Did they have it fixed?
